Katie and Vincent’s Non Traditional Wedding in Phoenix

Non Traditional Wedding in Phoenix_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Fully Alive Photography_Victoria Canada Weddings and Events

Katie and Vincent are true originals- their wedding was a perfectly non traditional wedding in Phoenix and we love their story so much that we had to share it with you along with their post-I Do photo shoot at the luscious Desert Botanical Garden and their lovely reception a few months later.

Katie explains why they decided to forgo having a traditional wedding and do things their way:  I never pictured myself as a traditional bride. I didn’t meet Vince (I call him Mr. Handsome!) in a traditional way, and was so happy to finally meet the love of my life that I just wanted to be married!

How did you meet and what is you favorite thing about each other?

I was waiting for a date who was late! My date had let me know that he was going to be an hour late, and I was so close to cancelling, but decided to wait at the restaurant bar. While waiting for my glass of wine, in walked Vince with his copilot, and it was love at first sight! We struck up a conversation (I learned he was a pilot and was on a trip and heading back to Phoenix) which intrigued me, as I’m terrified of flying! We exchanged numbers, but I never expected to hear from him, as Arizona is like another county when you’re living in Michigan! A week after we met, he called, and I was so excited! We continued to talk/date long distance before I decided to move to AZ, and the rest is history! So glad I didn’t cancel my date!!

A Non Traditional Wedding in Phoenix: We opted for a fancy dinner party, with the theme, “Eat, Drink, and be Married! I love anything with sparkle, so we chose jewel colors for the flowers against a sparkly navy backdrop. It was the best to celebrate love with family and friends! It was a bit unconventional (getting married first) but I wouldn’t have changed a thing! Once the reception came, it gave us more time to visit with family and friends!

Seriously, how gorgeous is Katie’s dress??? And of course, Vince brought his style game too!

While planning your dinner reception, what was most important to you? I really wanted the reception to be all about eating, drinking, and being merry! I wanted the feel of a fancy dinner party, where people can mingle and the families could really get to know each other and I wanted the venue to stand out as simple but beautiful, which thanks to Victoria and her team, really came through!

Non Traditional Wedding in Phoenix (Favorite Moment): My favorite memory is simple-seeing everyone (only very close friends and family) enjoying the day! So much planning went into that day that it was great to see it all come together (it was so beautiful) and to see all the guests enjoying all the details made all the stress worth it!

How did you choose your wedding planner and photographer? The very first date that Vince took me on when I first arrived in Phoenix was to the Royal Palms. I loved it the moment we walked around the resort and the resort highly recommended Victoria. Once I reached out to Victoria, what struck me was how much she listened to what I was looking for in a reception! She instantly seemed to understand me! She also recommended Tracy. Tracy is such a gem! Her photos are amazing-she really is able to capture moments, and puts you at such ease that you don’t even hear the camera clinking away! She has such a fun personality that shines through!

One thing we really love about non traditional weddings is that guests feel unrestricted in how they celebrate the day- maybe there’s not a dance floor but guests who want to dance don’t feel like they’re breaking any rules by creating their own dance floor!

Katie and Vincent, thank you for sharing your non traditional wedding in Phoenix with us and CONGRATULATIONS!

Wedding Trend | Red Wedding Ideas
categories: favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

There’s something going on with red these days and it’s not simply that it’s fall and couples want to warm things up with the quintessential fall and winter hue. No no, it’s much more than that. We’ve seen red popping up all over weddings recently and we think it’s a response to the abundance of pastels in wedding color palettes. Don’t get us wrong, we love pastels with their soft sweetness and dreamy surreal-ness but sometimes a nice bold color palette is what we crave. Just like in marriage, variety is the spice of life! Explore the trend with some red wedding ideas as seen right here in Arizona:

Mini Wedding Cakes with Cupcakes | Wedding Trends
categories: cakes and sweets, Trends, trends in catering, Wedding Inspiration

Have you seen the phrase that declares, “A party without cake is just a meeting”? Well, since our lives revolve around all things wedding 99% of the time, we think cake is important. Like, really important. So it’s no surprise that our trend-spotting radar has been pinged by the recent trend of couples pairing mini wedding cakes with cupcakes – we like to call it the “Cake and Wannabe Cake” trend. It’s tasty. It’s adorable. And we love it!

A good cake display always grabs our attention and when you choose to have a small cake accompanied by even smaller cupcakes, you can get pretty creative!

(Photo: Melissa Jill Photography,  Venue: Wild Horse Pass Resort, Cake: Let Them Eat Cake)

One major benefit of the Mini Wedding Cakes with Cupcakes trend is that you can offer several flavors of cupcakes and if any of your guests have diet restrictions that you would like to be mindful of, it’s much easier for your baker to accommodate those needs.

Also, some couples just aren’t “cake” people so having a sweet little cake surrounded by all kinds of sugary treats is a fantastic option (and guests can get their sugar fix almost immediately by helping themselves instead of waiting for the cake to be cut)!

So are you convinced to try the Mini Wedding Cakes with Cupcakes trend at your wedding? Our Elite Circle bakers can help you decide if you want to go the traditional route of having one large wedding cake or try something new and offer cake and wannabe cake!

Phoenix Art Museum Wedding | Real Arizona Wedding

Phoenix Art Mueum Wedding_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding_Eyes 2 see photography (1)

Alexa and Ian’s spring Phoenix Art Museum Wedding has all kinds of wedding goodness- the couple has a deep love for family and tradition, they included beautiful desert inspired details and the pair didn’t let a little rain dampen their spirits (they were actually happy that it was a rainy day even though it meant moving their ceremony from it’s original outdoor location!).

What was most important to you as you two planned your wedding? When you first get started, it’s so easy to get overwhelmed by all the details. It was important to us to stay focused on what our wedding day was truly about, not the dress, the flowers or the food, it was about our dreams coming true and finally getting married! When you go in with that attitude, nothing can get in your way of having the perfect day.

Phoenix Art Mueum Wedding_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding_Eyes 2 see photography (2)

We were drawn to Alexa and Ian’s wedding for many reasons but one aspect we particularly admire are the choices they made throughout their wedding day- many details had meaning and were chosen carefully. For example, we’ll let Alexa explain the meaning behind the nuggets of the Sikhote- Alin meteor they gifted each  groomsmen:  Ian and I love astronomy and he wanted to get his three brothers a groomsmen gift that was timeless, unique and irreplaceable – so pieces of meteorite came to mind.  He bought 4 pieces (1 for himself too) of the same asteroid that collided with Russia in 1947. These pieces of meteorite will be around virtually forever, and we liked the idea of the four brothers being able to pass them down to our next generation and keeping these timepieces in the family.

A second first look…the tish and bedeken took place where Rabbi Yossi Levertov led a traditional orthodox service. It was as if we saw each other for the first time all over again when Ian came to veil Alexa. The cheering, singing and overall energy was so exciting and the anticipation for the wedding ceremony to come could be felt throughout the room.

Phoenix Art Mueum Wedding_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding_Eyes 2 see photography (5)

A Phoenix Art Museum Wedding Ceremony: The couple had planned to get married outside but since there was rain, their vendor team relocated it indoors. This change didn’t seem to phase the couples at all and the result was a gorgeous ceremony, regardless of the indoor location. Since Alexa really wanted details that celebrated the desert, her florist, Buttefly Petals, designed flower arrangements for the chuppah that blended greenery and desert inspired flowers perfectly.

Looking back, what was your favorite moment of the day? There were so many special moments, especially during our ceremony. We had our parents with us under the Chuppah and our siblings surrounding us as our bridal party. If we had to pick one, it would be when Ian kissed his bride! The music started up, the audience cheered, we were surrounded by so much love from our family and friends, and in that moment we were officially husband and wife. All the planning and anticipation came down to that moment, it was surreal.

A Phoenix Art Museum Wedding Reception: Following the intimate ceremony, our guests were offered a variety of hors d’oeuvres and an open bar at cocktail hour. The cocktail hour concluded with guests being invited into the reception room. The elegant yet funky decor was enhanced throughout the reception space utilizing a mix of metallic vases with gold charger plates and gray linens against the pop of rich floral arrangements incorporating succulents and cacti.

A Phoenix Art Museum Wedding Sweets Table: A mini cactus-topped cake was the centerpiece of a lavish dessert table that included cupcakes, jelly beans, and chocolates. There was something for everyone at this sweets table!

Any surprises or things you would change? Aside from the rainy weather in sunny Arizona, there were truly no surprises. And if there were, we didn’t know about them! A Day to Cherish provided an amazing team that kept the entire day running smoothly from start to finish. We just showed up and had the best day ever, they took care of the rest.

Congratulations Alexa and Ian and thank you for sharing your Phoenix Art Museum wedding with us!

Advice from the Pros: Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, health and beauty, Meet Our Friends, Tips and Advice, Wedding Resources

This time of the year in Arizona, with daily temps consistently above 100 degrees, we often dream about getting away (“often” meaning most of our waking hours!). An escape to a cooler locale or even a vacation on a sandy beach fills our daydreams constantly! While we’re daydreaming about a getaway, we naturally think of our brides and grooms who are planning destination weddings and honeymoons, and, because packing for a destination event requires specific products, we think about destination wedding and honeymoon beauty products. To find out what the pros’ must -have beauty products are for destination weddings and honeymoons, we consulted our Elite Circle makeup artists and hair stylists. Here’s the inside scoop on what you need to pack for your destination wedding or honeymoon:

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Product Recommendations for Skincare:

Babydoll Weddings: Moisturizer/Primer – Embryolisse is my favorite because it’s 2 products in 1. It’s an amazing face moisturizer but is also a primer. Using a primer before applying your foundation will ensure even and flawless coverage which is perfect for tropical/humid locations.

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products_Phoenix Bride and Groom_embryolisse-lait-creme-concentre-moisturiser

Corinna Cooke Makeup/Corinna BTatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. I always travel with this. You can spritz it on during the flight to keep your skin hydrated, you can use it throughout your honeymoon to keep your skin looking luminous and dewy, and if you are somewhere humid you can use it instead of moisturizer. It’s also a great rescue product for skin that has had too much sun/wind/salt water – you name it!
Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Tatcha-dewy-skin-mist
One skincare product we personally recommend is Rescue Skin. The product is designed with travel in mind- both the ultra moisturizer and serum concentrate come in packets so you can carry them on the plane with you. Rescue Skin is designed to bring cutting-edge stem cell technology to every age, gender and skin type. With a single-step, RESCUE provides immediate rejuvenation no matter where life leads you – from days in the sun getting the perfect sun-kissed tan for your wedding or honeymoon to nights on the town and bachelor parties.

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products Recommendations for Hair:

Corinna Cooke Makeup/Corinna BOribe Dry Texture Spray (Travel Size). This product is fabulous because not only can it be used as hairspray, it’s also a dry texture product. After a day at the beach or under a hat you can use it almost like a dry shampoo to get body back into the hair. And it smells divine!

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products_Phoenix Bride and Groom_ORIBE dry texturizing spray
Babydoll WeddingsDry Shampoo – My absolute favorite dry shampoo is from Moroccanoil. They offer a light tone for blondes and a dark tone for brunettes. Been laying on the beach all day? No problem, spray this on your scalp and rub in – you’ll have fresh looking and feeling hair and it provides volume as well!

Hair Donut – make your hair cute for a fancy dinner date or just walking on the beach. Hair donuts are the easiest way to create that full messy bun. There are so many options to be creative.

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products | Makeup Recommendations:
Corinna Cooke Makeup/Corinna BDiorshow Blackout Waterproof Mascara. The best of the best, this mascara builds huge lashes! It doesn’t clump or look tacky, it just gives luxurious lashes that you can swim in.
Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products_Phoenix Bride and Groom_DIORSHOW_BLACKOUT_Waterproof_Mascara_
Babydoll Weddings: Highlighter – To keep your bridal glow, use a highlighter or bronzer with shimmer in it. Apply this to the upper part of your cheek bone, your upper lip under your nose and also the shins of your legs. My favorite to use are the variety of Nars Highlighters.
Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Nars highlighters
Waterproof Mascara – Destination weddings and honeymooning tend to involve beach or water activities. Stay looking your best with waterproof mascara. My favorite is a classic – Maybelline Great Lash. I found this to be the very best and you can layer throughout the day to increase thickness for a day to nighttime look.

Of course it’s best to try these products before you take off for your destination event but with these professional recommendations for destination wedding and honeymoon beauty products, we have a feeling you’re going to look and feel beautiful no matter where your plans take you.

Many thanks to both Babydoll Weddings and Corinna Cooke Makeup for your recommendations! About our Elite Circle Makeup Artists:
