Engagement Session: Lonnie and Mark
categories: Engagement, photography

When Stuart Thurlkill of Eyes2See Photography shared these images with me from Lonnie and Mark’s Safari Engagement Session in San Diego, I was in awe. First of all, how smart of them to choose a “safari” session! As Stuart explains it, “The Safari is a day long adventure shoot where the sky is the limit and creativity is king.”  The longer time frame also allows your photographer to capture various locations, fluctuating light and mood shifts. Brilliant!

Second, when I took a look at the photos, I was blown away by Lonnie and Mark’s comfort with the camera, their cool style and their gorgeous smiles! Undoubtedly, this couple made the camera work for them. Come with me on our first Engagement Session Safari…

I absolutely LOVE the colors in these 4 images; that green mossy wall makes me so happy!

The beach offers so many opportunities for casual fun, great scenery and relaxing walks

I think I hear Mark saying “Oh Yeah, she’s MINE!”

Playing in the trees- don’t be afraid to get a little silly

This picture is one of my favs. Lonnie and Mark are super cozy, the air is a tad foggy and there is just a soft dreamy quality about it all

Stuart of Eyes2See Photography, whom I adore for a myriad of reasons (2 of which are his undeniably happy spirit and his ability to capture raw emotion), shares with us his #1 tip for Engagement Sessions: You only get engaged once in your life so make sure you plan a fun experience with your photographer that will showcase your personality and style.

Lonnie and Mark, who were gracious enough to share their engagement safari with us, tell us a few things about themselves in a short Q&A:

What are your favorite things about each other?

Lonnie: My favorite thing about Mark??.. so many things! He makes me laugh every single day, he inspires me to accomplish things I didn’t think I could do, and he is just CUTE, how can you not love a million things about him?

Mark: My favorite thing about Lonnie is her ability to make me laugh. She is extremely funny and we laugh alot together.

What are you most looking forward to after the wedding (or what about marriage is exciting to you as a couple)?

The most exciting thing we’ve done after being married was taking our honeymoon in Capetown, South Africa- a truly amazing place. We stayed at the One & Only Hotel which was nice (except that one of the housekeeping staff stole her wedding and engagement rings, even failing two polygraphs). Regardless, we had an amazing trip and found ourselves in very adventurous situations (great white shark cage-diving and safaris) as well as very romantic settings (massages every night and amazing dinners on the African plains).

Wow! What a honeymoon! Read more about it in the Arizona Foothills Magazine article here.

Thanks again to Stuart, Lonnie and Mark!

Destination Monday: The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons

Every once in a while our editor Stephanie Gandy-Riley throws some fabulous finds my way. Today we are featuring the much coveted  honeymoon destination of The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman. Here’s what Stephanie has to say about this Caribbean treasure:

Heavenly beaches, world-renown snorkeling and scuba diving, and gourmet cuisine await newlyweds who are fortunate enough to honeymoon in the tropical paradise of Grand Cayman. Nestled in the Caribbean, 150 miles south of Cuba, this island may be one of the last perfect honeymoon destinations in the world.

The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is the most luxurious escape on the island, offering a resort destination that makes the most of its surroundings. Beautiful architecture, sumptuous pool environments, and uncompromising service. Without question, the Ritz-Carlton wrote the book on luxury, and the staff here has anticipated your every need and desire. From in-suite spa services to fine dining, you will be pampered most completely here. And isn’t that what a honeymoon is all about?

This luxurious escape from everyday worries is an ideal destination for honeymooners seeking to get away from it all. The location is remote enough to afford you privacy and ample snuggle time, yet it’s near enough to the ‘other’ wonders of the island, ranging from lush forests, the Green Sea Turtle Farm, and a hole-in-the-wall called “Hell.” Never mind that little place (though it’s good for a few postcards), you will definitely look back on your honeymoon at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman as pure heaven.

Need I say more? You know I will…my ideal getaway is one where I can prettily, or sometimes even sloppily,  drape myself on a beach chair, squish my toes in cool-below-the-surface sand, take luxurious dips in silky turquoise waters, snap snap at the “Cabana Boy” (or girl, it doesn’t really matter and I don’t really snap either) for more liquid pleasures and read anything that comes across my searching eyes. That does it for me and I think the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman would provide the perfect place for all of those “activities”.

This place is definitely  for those who want to honeymoon their tooshies off!

All About Color!
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, health and beauty, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Pantone’s 2011 color of the year announcement and last week I learned the color that will be seen everywhere next year is Honeysuckle. I am not sure how all of you feel about pinks but I can guess that most of you are thrilled. Here’s a look see at Pantone’s Honeysuckle (which is said to inspire confidence and uplift spirits):

Like I have said before, wedding design and decor consistently mirrors fashion trends- even if you don’t want to be” trendy”, inevitably many weddings that take place in the same year feature similar colors. Case in point: purple last year, yellow the year before and  red the year before that. Look for turquoise in the very near future! (Don’t feel bad about it, it happens with baby names too. I named my son Aiden thinking it would be unique and it turns out that was the #1 boy’s name that year)

Here are some beautiful Honeysuckle Wedding Inspiration options:

I called on two wedding pros, Corinna  of Corinna Cooke Makeup and Erin of Be In Love Designs, for advice and tips on all things honeysuckle.

First, the talented and generous Corinna Cooke, international makeup artist, shed a little light on how to dress your face for a wedding where honeysuckle is the dominant color:

Eyes: try a deep moody plum or berry tone. Its universally flattering to all skin tones and to all eye colors. Make it a little muted and slightly smoky and watch your eye color pop! Instead of a black eyeliner go for a deep charcoal gray or a sultry purple and buff it out so that its softer and more smudgy, then use several coats of mascara to really emphasize your eyes. For fun try Diorshow Plum or Benefit BADgal Plum mascaras instead of black.

Benefit BadGal Mascara Plum

Cheeks: go for a soft cream blush to make the skin look vibrant fresh and alive! Run some Illuminator along the upper cheekbone to pick up the light and create a luminous glow to the skin, then follow it with a soft pink cream blush. makes gorgeous illuminators (try Sunshine) and beautiful, long lasting cream blushes.

Lips: offset the deeper eyeshadow color with a soft colored lipgloss. Try Corset, Viva Glam 5, or Nymphette by MAC. Alternatively use a super soft and pretty lipstick such as Viva Glam Gaga by MAC. Either will give you a fresh faced, pretty look to compliment the Honeysuckle

And what does Erin, the awesome and creative owner of Be In Love Designs, say about honeysuckle and your wedding paper products?

Honeysuckle isn’t really a new trend, even though it is the color of the year. It is one of those colors that borderlines with hot pink. In fact, it really has been interchangeable with it since not all of the right shades of pink are available in every product. Brighter pinks (not pale) have been a huge hit every year with my clients.

Erin’s expert tips for you:

#1!!!! – Know your budget and work with your stationer regarding it. There are times I show something I have done to a new client and they fall in love with it. They don’t have a budget, and when I work the numbers, it’s too much. Yet, I know a ton of tricks to shave cost or get something similar. (such as client does assembly, or you address it yourself, etc.) If they talk with me and discuss what they can live without, we probably can get it to where it needs to be.

#2 – Have your guest list ready. Really. It is frustrating for both parties when you need 10 more invites and we have to order more stock, etc. In fact, fees might even be applied due to timeline.

#3 – Trust your designer to do their job. I went to art school and have a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design. I think it’s funny when a banker (lets say) starts talking about “set the tracking to this”. While I do want specifics to get your invite the way you want it, I can figure out how to BEST layout the design, and possibly show you things you didn’t think of that may be better.

#4 – Be open to verbiage edits. I sometimes get books that need to fit on a 5 x 7 card. Couples often “over-think it” with the invite and assume every bit of info needs to be in the invitation. Simpler is better – and wedding websites are free!

Great tips and bits gals- Thank You!

Brides, have fun with Honeysuckle!

Destination Monday: L’Auberge de Sedona
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites

Sedona is a place with rich history, scenic views and unique character. The town boasts a great art scene, a reputation as an energy vortex, and a laid back charm that draws Phoenicians and the rest of the world to it’s famous Red Rocks. Need another reason to visit Sedona? L’Auberge de Sedona, the well-known luxurious resort and spa of Sedona, has refurbished and expanded to the nines. It’s the perfect place for a honeymoon or wedding planning getaway (yeah, I just suggested that you and your sweetie get away and “work” on planning).

Seriously, every person on this earth should experience a creekside massage…

L’Auberge de Sedona is plush and romantic to say the least and right now they are featuring a special that you can really appreciate: the Celebrate Love offer. Book by December 31st and get up to a $125 NIGHTLY credit!

One more thing to tempt you: the Spa is featuring a treatment called the  Hot Toddy For The Body. What fun! It’s a spirit-lifting holiday cocktail for the whole system that uses a cornmeal body scrub rich with clove, organic orange and cinnamon with a warming body wrap of sweet soy, calendula and orange oil. Love it.

Happy Traveling! Kelly
