Sunday Shout Outs!
categories: Uncategorized

Happy Sunday Beautiful Readers!

Think there are a lot of wedding related events going on around town? You couldn’t be more right!  Here’s a list of upcoming events that you should check out for that all important wedding immersion you crave:

March 6th is the day you get to visit the Arizona Grand Resort and mingle with their preferred wedding experts at the Spring Bridal Open House. This is a beautiful venue that has the space for extra- large events!

The Great Bridal Expo is coming up March 13 at the Phoenix Convention Center- don’t miss this fun day to meet even more of Arizona’s wedding experts!

Also, The Venue at Old Main at ASU has Open Houses every Wednesday night from 6-8. This is a great option for weddings!

Now that I have played social calendar boss, I have to gush for a moment over some new bridesmaids dresses that have recently debuted at Scottsdale gown shop Destiny’s Bride. They are Monique Lhullier’s newest collection and they are gorgeous! The pretty bows are a grown- up detail that potentially hide pooches and the iridescent fabrics are exquisite.  See?

Monique Lhullier Bridesmaids

Here’s a genius solution: if you have a pregnant bridesmaid or wedding guest, please tell her about Rent Maternity Wear– it’s the perfect solution for those with baby bellies to look chic at a wedding without having to purchase a dress they will literally only be able to wear once. Rentals start at $35 and the selection is awesome! Here’s the popular “Angelina”:

And finally, Arizona Spa Week is coming up April 11-17. Simply put, $50 gets you a treatment at a spectacular participating spa in the Phoenix area. Typically, you can select treatments from spas such as Agave at the Westin Kierland, Revive Spa at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge, Joya Spa at the Intercontinental Montelucia Resort and Spa an dmany many more . Not too shabby, huh? You can also purchase gift cards from Spa Week for your bridesmaids that will be good towards Spa Specials on their site. Another genius solution for you!

That’s a wrap for today!

Meet our Friends: Liz Margin, Makeup Artist
categories: health and beauty, Meet Our Friends

It’s a rare day that a bride is able to pull off getting gorgeous all by herself on her wedding day. Besides making sure the dress is all set, she has to make sure her undergarments are perfect, the shoes are impeccable and the veil is just so. There’s also hair, makeup, accessories, skin etc etc!  Should you hire someone to do your makeup on your wedding day? Uh…YES!!!!

Today I introduce you to Liz Margin, a true professional. Her work speaks for itself so my job is easy today. All I need to do is reiterate how darn good she is (and sweet and beautiful too)!

Here is alittle bit about Liz: Brooklyn born makeup artist, Liz Margin, fell in love with creating beautiful faces while working side by side with some of the most influential makeup artists in the world – the late Kevyn Aucoin, Sonia Kashuk, and Francois Nars. She’s done makeup for runway shows for some of the world’s greatest American designers like Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. World class clients like Guess Jeans and Gucci, have trusted her fresh approach to beauty. The biggest photographers in the world have booked Liz for celebrity and advertising shoots including Annie Liebovitz, Irving Penn, Dahlen, Max Vadukel, Alexi Hay, and Dewey Nicks. Her roster of celebrity clients include Tom Brady, Danica Patrick, Sandra Bernhard, Michael Stipe, Chloe Sevigny, Frances McDormand, Joanne Woodward, Molly Sims and Heidi Klum. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, and Self Magazines from such locations as Italy, Australia, and Israel.

Now, she considers herself to be blessed to be sharing her makeup talents with brides from all over the country. “Helping a bride complete her wedding day beauty vision is the best feeling in the world. Being a part of that special and intimate day is one of the most fulfilling parts of what’s been an exciting and satisfying career!”

Some of Liz’s work:

Of course Liz has done cover models for us- she’s awesome and we LOVE having her on site! For more from this photoshoot, click here.

And she created this glowing bride look for the Sedona Wedding Studio photoshoot as seen in our most recent issue- see more pretties and wedding ideas here.

Of course, Liz has the smokey eye mastered

Here’s one of my favorite commercial photo images by Liz

Brides, you have enough to think about and execute. Leave the beautifying to the pros. Sitting in a makeup chair is forced downtime so take advantage of it! You will need the rest and you will love the outcome, given you hire a quality makeup artist like Liz

Remember: Always do a trial run, be honest about your expectations and be honest with your make-up professional regarding how you feel after the trial. Make-up artists can only make you happy if you tell them how.

Liz, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! You are talented and sweet and we can’t wait to see more beauties from you!

Real Wedding: Tiffany and Thomas
categories: fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, real weddings, Scottsdale Weddings

Happy Valentine’s Day (Part II)!

I am not one to demand much on the big V-day. I am happy with a sweet card, a heartfelt kiss and maybe a casual night out for dinner. But I know many of you whoop it up on this day of long embraces, flowery surprises and shiny baubles so my romance inspired treat for you is pink, pink and more pink!

Tiffany and Tommy, longtime sweethearts, were married at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale. Tiffany had a strong vision for her day: “Marrying the man of my dreams and having pink galore. Every shade of pink imaginable!” I think she got exactly what she wanted!

Photographer Hollye Schumacher did a great job of capturing the glam of the day and wedding coordinator Amy Mancuso did a fabulous job creating it! Look at this Bride!

The Hyatt Regency is special to the couple because they would visit there with family so getting married there seemed only natural.

Flowers to- die- for from The Flower Studio!

Here’s what Tiffany shared with us about the first dance: For a special surprise I had a singer who sang “our” song back when we met in high school come to the wedding and sing it for our first dance- it was amazing and made the night even more special. My husband was so suprised and gave me the biggest smile ever.

To top it off, Tiffany says: We finished off dinner with the most amazing cake that was a vanilla bean cake with berries. The night went on with great singing from the band and dancing to having “just married” cigars on the patio.

Dreamy, huh? This sea of pink is my gift to you readers and THANK YOU to Tiffany and Mark for sharing their day with us. Congratulations and enjoy!

Destination Monday: Villagio Inn and Spa
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

Since it’s Valentine’s Day, we thought we would treat you to a romantic destination.  Here is what editor Stephanie Gandy-Riley has to say about a beautiful California retreat that has claimed a spot on Travel + Leisure’s Top 50 Resorts in the US and Canada list :

One of the most romantic destinations in the West is the Villagio Inn and Spa, where lovers can slip away to a Tuscan-inspired setting and while away the hours together. It seems only natural that this lovely site be featured on our Destination Monday on Valentine’s Day.

The rooms are impeccable, from the balconies overlooking the Macayamas Mountains in California’s Napa Valley, to the sumptuous linens and amenities that will leave you saying “why didn’t I think of that?” The coffee and tea in the room are one example of the type of extra detail provided at the Villagio in the berg of Yountville.

Perhaps our favorite thing to do when we are lucky enough to steal away to Villagio is enjoy the spa. Here, they have truly thought of everything to make couples feel pampered. The spa suites are amazing. You can have a side-by-side massage, followed by a delicious meal and lovely wine brought right up to the suite. The icing on the cake is the suite with two outdoor soaking tubs. Oh yes!

(This place is so fab, our publisher chose it as a destination for her wedding anniversary–yes, it’s that nice!) Our editor is also a fan, as is her hubby, who said his Villagio massage was the “best massage of my life,” and we’re quoting him!

Whether you choose to enjoy Villagio for a lovers’ retreat, destination wedding, girlfriend’s trip or your own anniversary getaway, you will be delighted with the property and its proximity to world class restaurants. Quaint Washington Street boasts some of the finest restaurants in the U.S., all within walking distance.

This place sounds like a super-romantic destination- I must find a way to get there!

Check out the packages available at the Villagio Inn and Spa; the “Sweet Tea” sounds fun…

Great Find: Luxurious Wedding Cocktails
categories: cakes and sweets, reception ideas, Trends, upcoming events

Just when you thought you had seen it all, a product like Luxurious Wedding Cocktails by Dress the Drink comes along and knocks you off your feet. I have to admit, my initial reaction was one best described as overwhelmed but the more I learned and saw and heard, I realized this is something anyone planning a wedding should know about.

We know that wedding design and decor continue to be more personalized and customized by the minute. Heck, it’s considered cool now to have your wedding in a kitschy vintage bowling alley (worlds apart from my cousin’s wedding in a Wisconsin bowling alley banquet room), out in a barn or even at Summer Camp. So what is one more way, one more delicious, beautiful, WOW Factor way to personalize your wedding? With a customized, one-of-a-kind, made with you in mind cocktail. No no, not the “Bride and Groom’s Signature Cocktail” idea, but an actual drink that is all yours and dolled up in a way you never thought possible.

Let me show you:

For a special toast, the Golden Nugget Wedding Toast is perfection. This elegant drink features a rim of 24K Edible Gold Flakes with two 3 carat Gold Dust Edible Diamonds resting on the bottom for the final sip.  Are you serious? Gold flakes? Edible Diamonds? Awesome.

Here’s another beverage that I am pretty sure I want to bathe in:

“Toast” is a beverage and garnish that was created to accent and match the warm golden and chocolate brown wedding table decor. Here’s how Dress the Drink describes this libation:  “TOAST is made with Coffee, Peppermint liqueur, White Chocolate liqueur, Baileys and Vanilla Vodka. The martini glass is rimmed with Dress The Drink Espresso Toasted Coconut Blend and accented with Dress The Drink Edible Sterling Silver Embedded Luscious Leaf on a pick.” Intense, right?

And this, the sweetest sweet I can think of:

This company actually takes the time to make a Mini Cocktail Cupcake for you that compliments the signature cocktails served throughout the evening. They are made even more beautiful with an edible Sweetglazed Viola Swizzle Stick or one or two Edible Sweetglazed Violas topping the cupcake itself. This is full-circle event design!

Here’s a fun cocktail that your Arizona Luxurious Weddings by Dress the Drink contact, Amy Petrovsky of Sensational Events, had created just for her (Amy thought that the name ‘Embrace’ said it all.):

She explains why she wanted to have a custom cocktail, “I wanted the experience of knowing how my brides and clients would feel if they had a custom cocktail designed for just them.”

And hello, look at this pretty thing:

“Petal” is made with vodka, white crème de cacao, lychee liqueur, with a light dash of grenadine. The glass is rimmed with Gourmet Pink Lemonade Crushed Edible Flower and Silver Flakes then garnished with Edible SweetGlazed Rose Petal.  Fancy, right?

And one more I have to share with you simply because the garnish details blow me away:

“Meadow” is made with Vanilla Vodka, White Chocolate and Cinnamon Liqueur Blend. The rim is Dress the Drink’s edible Crush Apple Vanilla Flower Blend accented with edible Crush Apple Vanilla Flower Swizzle Stick. There is nothing they can’t or won’t  do. Nothing.

So let me break this down for you. First, you decide what your wedding colors and theme are. Then you call Dress the Drink and they create a signature cocktail hour drink, a toasting cocktail, a dinner beverage, an after dinner beverage and a cupcake that all match your decor and your personal taste. Easy, right?

And don’t worry, you are in good hands. The people you will be working with to create your signature cocktails are not glorified frat boys; the mixologists at Dress the Drink are scientists and it is their mission to create a drink that is as delicious as it is beautiful.

Now for more great news! Luxurious Wedding Cocktails by Dress the Drink will be at the Phoenix Bridal Show February 20th- look for Amy Petrovsky of Sensational Events. This classy lady can help you with any questions you may have (and I hear there will be samples)!

If you can’t make it to the bridal show, head on over to Destiny’s Bride– they are your gateway to this amazing new wedding beverage option.

After your signature cocktail is created, I would love to hear about it!
