Real Arizona Wedding: Nicole and Brian
categories: floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas

Lawn games and silly dancing. I spotted these two things in Nicole and Brian’s wedding and knew their wedding must be shared. Ok ok, there’s also a unique and dramatic ceremony site (Echo Canyon in Camelback Mountain. Yes, IN the canyon), beautiful desert plant floral designs, sweetness between the couple and their friends and family and lots of fun DIY touches but if I’m being honest, it was the games and dancing that drew me in!

3 words would to describe your relationship? Loving, Christ-centered, Comfortable

Something about you that we wouldn’t know from the pictures: We both love geocaching!

Can you believe that Nicole’s mom did most of the design and planning for the wedding? From the flowers to the brownie cake, she did it all… I’m in awe of her talent! Where did the couple get their inspiration for the colors and mood of their day? I’ll let Nicole explain: Picture the setting sun’s vibrant rays igniting the warm, earthen hues of the mountain’s rock…those were our oranges. We paired them with the soft, muted greens of the desert’s cacti and succulents. Nature is such a muse! As far as the rest of the wedding planning, we wanted it to feel very laid back and fun just like us! As a result, quite a few aspects of the wedding were as non-traditional as my wooden engagement/wedding ring. Brian had never used a lathe before, but he learned how to just so he could make me this unique and beautiful ring! Here’s our Save the Date video which documents the creation process:

Save the Date: April 14, 2012! from nicole moody on Vimeo.

The lawn games, created by Nicole’s dad, were just too fun- there was cornhole, jenga, and bocce ball complete with instructions. If I was a guest at this reception, I would never leave the lawn!

And then there was dancing- what a fun group!

Destination Wedding: Lisa and Fabian
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, the paper chase

Whenever someone from the Phoenix Bride and Groom family gets married, we want to celebrate! Lisa is a graphic designer and works with Be In Love Designs to create custom wedding invitations. This invitation, which happens to be Lisa’s Jamaica destination wedding invitation, was featured in our most recent issue (notice how the invite cleverly uses the word “canteloupe” to invite those who weren’t able to jet off to Jamaica to a party in the states?): Be in love Designs_Jamaica wedding invitation

Why Jamaica? Lisa took to heart the sentiments of her wedding weary friends who said, “If we could do it all again, we would have run off to a Caribbean island and gotten married”. So Lisa and Fabian planned a long weekend in beautiful Negril, Jamaica where guests frolicked in the sand, lounged by the pool and enjoyed all the island has to offer including scuba diving and kayaking. They stayed at Sandals Negril and also had their wedding ceremony there (which was free thanks to Sandals’ Beautiful Beginnings package!). This adventurous couple definitely appreciates how everything was handled by the resort and they were able to relax and focus on having with their guests.

Destination: Taos, New Mexico
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons

Before my trip to Taos, New Mexico, here’s what I knew about it: art, mountains, Native Americans, art. Yes, I realize I wrote art twice but see, that’s all I really knew about the town…kind of sad, right? I had heard people gush over it but I truly had no idea why so when I had the opportunity to spend some time there, my curiosity was piqued.

Little did I know, I would be immersed in rich culture, outdoor adventure, artistic creation, local wine, and unbelievable natural beauty. My home while in Taos was El Monte Segrado, a gorgeous resort in the heart of the city. Hands down, if you go to Taos, this is where you want to stay- it’s luxurious, the staff is hospitable, there’s a lot to do on and off- property, and the landscapes are seriously dramatic.

Since AZ is such a destination hot-spot, you may wonder why I am recommending Taos for your wedding, but I know that many couples who live in Arizona want something different.

This picture is exactly what I thought of when taking a tour of the El Monte Segrado grounds and why I wanted to share this destination resort with you- the white snow, a couple lost in the moment, a pop of color from the flowers, the blue hued background that adds a touch of mystery…I love this so much!

The entire resort is a work of art- from the ballroom to the artwork throughout, every inch is carefully crafted and designed.

Prepare to have some fun too- there is a wide variety of ways to explore Taos and it’s rich culture. During my trip, I indulged in resort-type activities like spa treatments and gourmet dinners on property (buffalo is delicious!) but the group I was with also went on adventures unique to Taos and El Monte Segrado.

We went on a llama trek into the river gorge with a guide who is the GREATEST guy! We chose our own llamas (mine was named Diego and he was a very strong-willed leader. I kind of loved him but kind of not), we ate a gourmet lunch, and even learned about the hieroglyphics. Taos_Destination Wedding_gorge

We toured the Taos Pueblo and learned about a completely different way of life from a teenager who lives on the pueblo (it’s not called a reservation because it’s the true home of the native people- they have lived on this very land for over 1000 years)!IMG_2370

At the resort, we created our own works of art under the guidance of an artist who’s life was transformed by a grim diagnosis; I almost left my painting behind because I wasn’t feeling it but surprisingly my husband insisted that we put it up somewhere in our house. It became the perfect piece for the kids’ playroom!IMG_2389

And one of my favorite evenings was a wine-paired dinner hosted by Vivac Winery. I love everything about the owners- they are young and hip, they produce some seriously delicious wine, and they need to be my friends.

So now I know more than 3 things about Taos and have a new found respect for the Taos way of life. Check it out for your next adventure: El Monte Segrado in Taos, New Mexico.

Engagement: Laura and James
categories: Engagement, Sedona

A great number of you got engaged in the last few months and you may be thinking ahead to your first official photo session as a couple- your engagement session! We adore these photoshoots for so many reasons but what we  love most is how most couples adopt a relaxed, easy-going attitude. This is the time to play, flirt and in Laura and James’ case, kiss in the rain!

Here’s their adventure, captured beautifully by Foskett Creative

What 3 words describe your relationship? classic, adventurous, and old-fashioned romance! (ok, we cheated on the last one)

Favorite Things:

Laura: I love that James is the only person whose adventure-loving, experience-seeking, world-traveling soul matches my own.

James: “What do I love about you? Your sense of easy-going-ness. Your sense of adventure and good humor, that’s what my favorite thing is.”

The Proposal

We chose our engagement photo location based on where we got engaged, which was deep in the canyon at the end of the trail. Our engagement photos pretty much mirrored our actual engagement (with slightly less mayhem). We went to Sedona, specifically Oak Creek Canyon, and arrived later than we thought we would get there. It wasn’t quite as populated with people as the trail normally is, and this was likely due to the dreary and bleak weather overhead. At the end of the trail is a pool of water in between canyon walls, and we stopped for lunch. James walked over to the waters edge and asked me to join him, rather ominously I may say, and stated, “we need to talk”. I approached him with dread and he, milking my reaction, said, “I don’t want to go on like this any longer”.

Needless to say, instead of a break-up conversation in the middle of the wilderness, he got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him.

BUT- it had grown late, and we probably should have started the 2 hour walk back sooner, so we quickly packed up our things and set off. Darkness fell and James had forgotten his flashlight. I pulled out my iPhone and used a flashlight app to get us through the winding trail. It started to rain- a cold, wet, steady rain, and we made it back to the car unpleasantly cold and soaked. When we got to the parking lot, we found that we and another set of hikers had been locked in. The other hikers were calling 911, and as we sat in the car, sure enough, it started to hail. After the fire fighters came and cut the locks, we braved the treacherous weather home.

We came back to our apartment where we found my cat, obviously ill and shaking. James and I spent a large portion of the late late hours at an urgent care with my poor kitty. It was indeed, an adventure (can you see a theme yet?)

SO…. back to the photos- we went to Oak Creek Canyon to see the beautiful fall colors, as we did the first time around and.. it rained. And then it hailed. So, true to form, our photos became the same love-able and laughable misadventure we seem to get ourselves into.

Congratulations Laura and James and thank you for sharing your adventure with us!

Happy Planning from your Arizona Wedding Blog,

Kelly

Great Find: Kendra Scott Jewelry
categories: bridal fashions, favor and gift ideas, upcoming events

Just when I was feeling the need for some POW! in my wardrobe, Kendra Scott’s Spring jewelry collection hit my inbox. Personally, I’m a girl who struggles with large pieces (I would like to say it’s because I’m a teeny tiny thing but that would just be a lie!) but I feel like these teeter on the wearable cusp. I can see myself wearing a gorgeous pair of Kendra’s earrings along with a bracelet (and my standard spring look- white capris, flip flops, and a striped shirt) and calling it good!

The new Spring 2013 Collection is just about to be launched (more info below)
