Real Arizona Wedding: Heather and Paul
categories: fabulous reception sites, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

Heather and Paul’s outdoor Tuscan wedding caught our eye for a few reasons: The warm yellows, reds, oranges, greens, browns, and off-white tones were inspired by both the bride and groom’s Italian heritage, the rustic sunflowers remind us of a sunny summer day, and it just seems like everyone had fun. We like pretty and fun.

3 words to describe their day: Romantic, Elegant (yet relaxed), Picturesque

Paul’s cufflinks are too cute!

Heather’s father and brother wanted to see her before the ceremony so she planned a first look for them prior to her first look with Paul…what a beautiful moment

Favorite Thing: …Paul is the opposite of me, he is very relaxed and go with the flow kind of guy and he is truly my best friend. Almost 5 years together and I still get excited to see him everyday and I get so happy when I hear his voice or when someone says his name. He is my perfect match in every way!

Grooms, take note: Heather says one of her favorite memories from the day was when they walked down the aisle and Paul called her Mrs. Casartelli for the first time. It “took {her} breathe away”!

The rustic outdoor feasting tables were set with Tuscan hued floral designs, simple but elegant place settings, and olive oil favors; dinner was an Italian feast made complete with a carving station and Chicken Marsala (yum!).  Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (13) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (14) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (15) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (16) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (17) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (18) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (19)

The Honeymoon: The day after the wedding we flew to St. Lucia and stayed at Sandals Grande Resort. We chose that particular place because we both wanted a place with white sandy beaches and somewhere that none of our family or friends have ever been before.

Advice from the couple: …just relax and enjoy. Not everything will run smoothly in the beginning and in the end it won’t even matter because at the end of the day the only thing that is important is that you get to marry the love of your life.

Congratulations Paul and Heather and thank you for sharing your day with us!

Beautiful Details- An Elegant Desert Wedding at Sassi
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, photography, real weddings, Wedding Inspiration

Sassi is easily one of the most intimate venues in the valley- it’s tucked away in the northeast valley amidst statuesque mountains and lush desert landscape. What we love about this elegant desert wedding is that the muted pink details don’t compete with the venue, rather, they remind guests that while in a richly rustic setting such as Sassi, there is some softness to be found.

Destination Honeymoon: Travel Guides from DK Eyewitness Travel (including 2 giveaways!)
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, Giveaways and Contests, Wedding Resources

Today’s Destination Honeymoon post isn’t about sun-kissed beaches, sparkling azure oceans, or exciting newlywed adventures. It’s about something even more important: how to find them!

I’m the kind of traveler who just hops on a plane and trusts that my adventures are fated (i.e., I don’t plan much). This works out for me, sometimes, but  I often leave my vacation knowing that had I done just a little more planning, I could have had many more memorable experiences that are unique to the location I just left behind. That’s why the opportunity to review DK Eyewitness Travel’s Honeymoon Travel Guide Series intrigued me.

I received these three Honeymoon Guides in the mail and immediately went to work- I’ve personally been to a few of the locales featured so I went to those places in the books to see what I could find and compare my experiences with DK’s expertise.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Destination Honeymoon_DK Eyewitness Travel_giveaway (1)

My initial reaction: these travel guides are visually rich, travel friendly, and concise. They also come with handy maps that are ATTACHED to the book so #1 you don’t lose them, #2 you can’t tear them, and #3 you don’t need to be an engineer to re-fold them!

I also realized that I like Top 10 lists, which seems to be DK Eyewitness Travel’s specialty. They “trim the fat” and I am a gal who appreciates that someone else did the hard work for my vacationing pleasure.

DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Caribbean explores this region island-by-island, from Anguilla to Jamaica to the Virgin Islands. Packed with photographs, illustrations, and maps, the guidebook helps you choose just the right destination for your special trip, highlighting the best city attractions, beach and outdoor activities, resort destinations, accommodations, restaurants, and shopping. Each destination also includes guidelines for getting married during your stay.Phoenix Bride and Groom_Destination Honeymoon_DK Eyewitness Travel_giveaway (3)

DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Top 10 Cancun & the Yucatan will lead you straight to the very best this region has to offer, whether you are looking for the best resort experience, most spectacular Mayan ruins, sparkling cenotes, or Spanish Colonial towns. This pocket-sized guidebook quickly shows you the don’t-miss highlights and offers the Top 10 sights and attractions, nightspots, restaurants, and shopping for each area.

DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Top 10 Puerto Rico helps you plan the trip that’s right for you, from the Top 10 things to do in Old San Juan and Vieques, to best beaches and outdoor activities. Whether you’re looking to visit the waterfall in El Yunque, experience the street parade at Carnaval Ponceño, or soak up the history at the sentry post in Castillo de San Cristóbal, this guide is your perfect pocket-sized companion.

One more thing to note: of course you can get a lot of your travel info from the internet but you will need a book in hand when you travel…leave thoughts of data usage, weak signals, and international access fees behind!

Engagement: Jessica and Jeff
categories: Engagement

Although they say they were nervous at first, Jessica and Jeff’s engagement session won our hearts for the ease they have with each other, the beautiful scenery (the home is Jessica’s parent’s Camelback Mountain retreat) and the gorgeous light captured by photographer Melissa Jill. Fancy props were definitely not needed for this one, just good ol’ fashioned sweetness!

3 Words to Describe You as a Couple:  Adventurous, respectful, passionate

How they met: I went with a girlfriend to dinner in Downtown Columbus and then we met up with a few of my brothers’ friends at Bar Louie nearby… Jeff sat in the seat next to me and appeared quiet while the rest of us all chatted. At some point, I turned to him and started a conversation…we talked until the group decided to walk to a bar across the street. At the next place, Jeff and I played a game of darts and the flirting began. He asked me to dance on the dance floor and I think I fell in love when I realized that he had great rhythm and actually liked to dance. I went home smitten and he called me on Monday to schedule our first date on Wednesday. We’ve been together and inseparable ever since.

The Proposal: Jeff proposed February 2, 2012 in Las Vegas. We had just arrived that evening for a long weekend at the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention. The first night we met my parents on the balcony of Hyde Lounge at the Bellagio next to the amazing fountains. My parents got up to take a picture of us with the fountains in the background when Jeff backed up and got down on one knee and proposed. My mom was videoing the whole thing on her iphone. I was completely shocked but it was the best surprise ever! We never looked at rings together so I had no idea that he was close to proposing. He asked my father’s permission over Christmas in Phoenix so my parents had to keep the secret for over a month! It was an unbelievable start to an eventful and wonderful weekend.

Favorite Things: We both appreciate that each other is intelligent, thoughtful, and romantic…we both love that our interests in life are so aligned.

Ideal Date Night: Nine holes of golf followed by dinner with great wine

The Wedding: We’re getting married in April at The Boulders in Scottsdale. The rehearsal is at Buffalo Chips because Jeff, my dad, and my brother all rode bulls on amateur night two years ago…for fun (they’re crazy!). Dad ended up at the hospital with 3 broken ribs! There will be no bull riding by any family members or friends this time.

Congratulations Jessica and Jeff and thank you for sharing your engagement with us!

Wedding Reception: Elegant Al Fresco Dining
categories: fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, photography, reception ideas, rehearsal dinner spots, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

Eating outside makes me feel nostalgic- when I was young, I lived in Wisconsin, and summer dinners outside were pretty much mandatory. What I love about eating al fresco is that you feel so small under the open sky but you don’t feel alone. You are sharing in one of the best bonding traditions around- you are sharing a meal.

With that being said, my dinners never looked quite this elegant…

Phoenix Bride and Groom_outdoor wedding reception_rehearsal dinner_blue_lake_Hollye Schumacher Photography (1) Phoenix Bride and Groom_outdoor wedding reception_rehearsal dinner_blue_lake_Hollye Schumacher Photography (2) Phoenix Bride and Groom_outdoor wedding reception_rehearsal dinner_blue_lake_Hollye Schumacher Photography (3)

The furniture is spectacular and functional- it adds an element of style that invites you to sit back and stay a while. I can only imagine the conversations at this rehearsal dinner table…

Phoenix Bride and Groom_outdoor wedding reception_rehearsal dinner_blue_lake_Hollye Schumacher Photography (5)

This captures what I consider the magic hour of dinner- you can still see but the candlelight glows perfectly and the guests are definitely having a good time while the wine flows

Phoenix Bride and Groom_outdoor wedding reception_rehearsal dinner_blue_lake_Hollye Schumacher Photography (4)

The location and set design are intimate dinner party perfection- whether it’s an engagement party, rehearsal dinner or small wedding reception.
