Shoes for the Groom!
categories: Grooms

Guys, so much of the focus when planning a wedding is on the reception and ceremony details so it’s very possible that your personal style will get bumped to the side a bit. Since we love it when grooms show some personality, we suggest you look to your attire as one way to show your individuality. One of the best ways to show your style is with your shoes.

Depending on the formality of your wedding, tuxedo shoes might be the perfect fit, but if you are given a bit of creative license with your attire, why not go with something you really like? And we know Converse has become extremely popular, but weddings in general are headed in a more formal direction so while the following shoes are still slightly dressed up, they are also comfortable (and more importantly, wearable AFTER the wedding).

From bridesmaid dresses to linens, blue is back in a big way for weddings. Coordinate with these!

These orange shoes MUST come with pre-approval from your bride, but if she says yes, you are going to be the style-maker of the wedding!

The Great Gatsby and Tiffany & Co.
categories: bridal fashions, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

You know what’s coming and we know what’s coming…

F. Scott Fitzgerald was actually one of Tiffany & Co.’s customers so it’s fitting that they designed the jewelry for the movie. Here are a few of the stunning pieces that honestly take our breath away:

This is the “Daisy” locket; it’s so sweet and pretty

This one single movie has sparked a huge trend in wedding decor, bridal fashions, and style in general. These are the window displays at Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store in New York celebrating the jewelry inspired by the movie:

Richard Moore, vice president of Tiffany & Co. Creative Visual Merchandising; Catherine Martin, Academy Award®-winning costume and production designer and Baz Luhrmann, director, producer and co-writer of The Great Gatsby posed for the unveiling. I can only imagine the immense pride they must feel as a result of their efforts and collaboration.

So, we’ll see you at the movies this weekend, right?!

Great Find: May Designs (P.S. There’s a giveaway too!)
categories: favor and gift ideas, Giveaways and Contests

One of the top things that seems to stump brides when planning a wedding is what to purchase for bridal party gifts and while we totally advocate pitching in for part of the costs incurred as a result of being your best friend, we also REALLY love the idea of a personalized gift too- something that is unique to the recipient but doesn’t break the bank.

When we came across May Designs, we knew we found the perfect gift recommendation. The site allows you to custom design note cards or journal books for your friends (OK, for yourself too!) and once we set upon making our own designs, in the name of research of course, we went a little crazy. See what the Bride & Groom team designed and gain a little style insight too (find the giveaway details and extra entry opportunities at the end of this post):

Kristen (Regional Sales):

Budget Journal. The colors in the Blooming Light Blue & Tangerine just jumped out at me immediately. I love that they have a little bit of old fashioned look to them… but the blues and oranges and reds are so vibrant and “now”. I like colors that aren’t traditionally supposed to go together! And then that nameplate with the font… well, it’s just a little retro to go along with the design and goes great with the overall look of the journal. If I’ve got to keep track of my budget, I might as well be inspired with some bright happy colors that will jump out at me in my purse! Who doesn’t need a little cheery motivation to keep track of something not fun – like money.

Notecard: My personal favorite is the Boxwood Orange design. It’s a bit retro… something I’m totally digging now. AND the design reminds me of the Old South, someplace I’m fond of visiting. My favorite colors together are blue and orange… and this modern twist of colors on the old stand-by is SO fresh! I love that I can add a totally different element inside my envelope too – surprise – we’ve got some chevron, which I think will be in style for a while. I can’t wait to design more notecards for my friends now!

May Designs_wedding_bridal party gift_notecard_Kristen (1)

Stephanie (Editor): I chose to design custom notecards because I love to write. I feel that the handwritten note is the greatest compliment you can send someone in this digital age. Whether you are saying thank you, or just hello, a personal note is just that: personal. I had a great time choosing the colors. I went with the Damask print because it’s fancy without being overly feminine, and I love the blues–so mellow. The chevron print on the inside of the envelope is a little pop of surprise, a layering of color and design that I think will really make these notes seem like something special when the recipient opens the mail.

May Designs_Wedding gift_Bridal Party Gift_notecard_Stephanie

Liz (Regional Sales): I was feeling very royal so I went for it! Usually I’m more whimsical…

May Designs_Wedding gift_Bridal Party Gift_notecard_Liz

Rebecca (Art and Design Director): I chose the ‘Stella’ font because of it’s casual handwriting nature; I was thinking about Spring with the choice of roses and the teal block. The square plate offered contrast to the round circles in the background. I often use a notebook for sketching layouts for Phoenix Bride & Groom so I chose the grid pattern for the inside pages.

May Designs_Wedding gift_Bridal Party Gift_notecard_Rebecca

Kelly (Social Media Writer): I have always loved green so this acidy green and teal card got my attention. I also like that it’s floral but not “laying in the tall grass with nothing to do but braid my hair while I sit by these random suitcases” floral (that’s strangely specific, isn’t it?). It’s more “HEY! I kinda like flowers and I like you enough to share my detestable handwriting with you!” Wouldn’t you feel lucky to get one of these? It’s full of love but good luck reading the note inside…

May Designs_Wedding gift_Bridal Party Gift_notecard_Kelly

Renea (Regional Sales) loves purple so here’s what she would love to get as a gift:

May Designs_Wedding gift_Bridal Party Gift_notecard_Renea

One last thing about designing custom books/notecards for your bridal party: because YOU designed it with them in mind, the recipient will love it too. Even if it’s not exactly what she would choose for herself, it’s the perfect gift because it’s a reflection of how you see your friend and what you like about her and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Coordinator’s Chat: Sedona Luxury Weddings & Events
categories: from the consultants, Meet Our Friends, Wedding Resources

There’s nothing like getting advice from someone who is a professional in the event industry and since coordinators see so many aspects of weddings, we rely on them for their invaluable expertise for those times when “things go wrong”. Today’s scenario is not common but it DOES happen and it’s the kind of challenge that could put a bride over the edge. Judi “JB” Blumefield of Sedona Luxury Weddings & Events is here to talk you off the ledge and back into wedding planning bliss. Here’s our question for her:

The meticulously chosen reception linens that were delivered from across the country arrive the day before the wedding and are the wrong color- what do you do?

As the owner of Sedona Luxury Weddings and Events for the last 13 years, I have had a great deal of practice in these last minute scenarios and working the plans A, B, and C. This is why I tell all brides they should hire a wedding coordinator. After all, ladies, do you want to deal with this the day before YOUR wedding?

So, this is how I handle the situation:

I contact the person with whom my lovely bride placed the order with. I give them my name and tell them that they need to fix it the problem immediately and ship the correct linens to me personally by overnight express, and I don’t care what it takes or where they have to go to find them. She nor I will NOT pay an extra dime to have this done and I expect them in my hands no later than 10:00 AM the next day for a 6:00 PM wedding.

Notice how JB has a pleasant but firm tone? That is going to get you exactly what you want when you call the company. Remember that the person answering the phone isn’t necessarily the person who made the mistake but is probably the person who can help make it right. One more note from JB:

I also call my favorite Rental Company- Classic Party Rentals and get a back up from them (because I know that if my bride would have picked a product from them in the first place, this would have never happened).

Real Arizona Wedding: Meredith and Patrick’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration
categories: real weddings, Scottsdale Weddings

When I say I could eat Mexican food every day for the rest of my life, I am not kidding. I love it all and since Cinco de Mayo is coming up, you know we are having a party at our place. As I dream of spicy guacamole, refreshing margaritas, and the distinctive sound of mariachis, I share Meredith and Patrick’s beautiful Cinco de Mayo inspired wedding with you…I can’t think of a more fun day to get married!

The couple, who met while at the Arizona State University Evening MBA program, wanted to show their out of town guests why they love Arizona so a fun and casual downtown Scottsdale wedding was in order. This day is a perfect choice for them- Meredith tells us: We are both total goofballs that love new adventures and spending time together…even if it’s working on our Quicken budget!

I think it’s so cute how the Old Town Scottsdale crowd cheered on the couple as they went to various areas for their portraits…

Meredith tells us: Our favorite local band, Pyschobilly Rodeo, kept everyone on their feet and dancing the night away until the end of the night.

Best Moment of the day: The first dance when suddenly nothing else mattered and we were “Carried Away”

The Honeymoon: Bora Bora….we stayed in an over water bungalow, swam with sharks, and relaxed. AMAZING.
