With most of their guests arriving from out of town, Sara and Johnathan planned a wedding at Arizona Biltmore that was luxurious and entertaining; from the sentimental ceremony to the grand reception, you’re sure to fall in love with this gorgeous wedding. The couple describes their day as an elegant and dreamy fairytale and we agree wholeheartedly… have a look see!

The ceremony space was uniquely designed and was a hit with the guests. The centerpiece of the space was a chuppah draped with sheer fabric accented with strands of crystals and fluerettes; there was also a similar version placed at the beginning of the aisle making the impact of the structures even greater. Lining the all white runway-style aisle were huge glass vases and white planter boxes filled with greenery and white calla lilies.

In addition to the stunning design, there were also special moments infused into the ceremony. The glass that Jonathan broke under the chuppah was placed inside an engraved bag that all of his first cousins have used at their weddings and each member of Johnathan and Sara’s immediate family read blessings to the couple. Even sweeter, Sara’s grandfather led the reading of the traditional Seven Blessings.

The reception was decorated with glamorous white and silver touches highlighted with soft purple- hued uplighting. Tables were dressed with high and low centerpieces, oversized glass containers, shimmering linens and chargers, silver coated chocolate bon bons, monogrammed menus with silver and crystal accents, an abundance of white floral, and of course, candles. Long crystal chandeliers were hung from the ceiling, making the whole room sparkle.

The Honeymoon: We went to The Jalousie Plantation in St. Lucia (it is now called Sugar Beach).  Jon decided that he wanted to surprise me with a honeymoon destination, so I did not find out where we were going until I got to the airport.  All I knew was that it a warm and sunny beach trip was in my future!

Congratulations Sara and Johnathan and thank you for sharing your day with us!

We recently featured Whitney and Cory’s wedding in our Summer Fall 2013 issue but this is one of those weddings where there is so much more to share than we had space for in print! Whitney, an event designer at Some Like it Classic Wedding & Event Design, has an eye for style and there was no shortage of inspiration; we couldn’t keep the lovely details to ourselves so today’s Real Arizona Wedding is heavy on the pretty.

Whitney envisioned a wedding that was fun (the impromptu after-party fulfilled that!) and celebratory (most of their guests came from out of town) that was expertly designed with a modern take on a pink and blue color palette.

Favorite Things: Whitney: His sense of humor and his laugh, I swear he gets funnier every day. Cory: How fun she is and her personality, we have so much fun together.

Favorite Memory: Our First Look was extremely special… it helped calm our nerves and allowed us to talk to each other. I still remember Cory telling me how beautiful I looked.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin (2)

The Bridal Party: …not only did they look gorgeous (one of my fav photos!) but both our bridesmaids and groomsmen ranged from friends we’ve known since we were toddlers all the way past college and most of them came from all over the country to be there for us. It was a really amazing group and Cory & I had both moved growing up so we feel really lucky to have such sweet, beautiful friends who are still a big part of our lives despite the distance.

3 Words for the Wedding: Friends, Family, & Fun!

Whitney incorporated several design styles into the details- there’s a touch of rustic with burlap and wooden signs alongside glamorous (if not royal) graphics and stationery; the pink and blue accents played well against the neutral tones of the venue.

Whitney designed the loveliest sweetheart table- the “Just Married” plate is adorable!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin (11)

We love how florist Table Tops, Etc. varied the heights, design and containers for the arrangements throughout the reception courtyard; varying textures is an art and both Whitney and Table Tops, Etc. do it well!

If you could change one thing: As a perfectionist it’s pretty funny to me that I wouldn’t change a thing. However, both Cory and I wish it lasted longer, I wish you could add a few extra hours into your wedding day because we had such a fun time with our friends and family. As much as we really tried to take everything in and really be in the moment it just really flew by. The only thing I can think of is I wish we had a popcorn bar (My husband nixed that idea the week before our wedding when I thought of it!)!

Congratulations Whitney and Cory and THANK YOU for sharing your day with us!

Real Arizona Wedding: Ali and Nate’s Downtown Phoenix Bash
categories: real weddings, Wedding Inspiration

Ali and Nate chose downtown Phoenix’s historic Icehouse for it’s urban vibe and blank slate but knew that the venue (which literally provides ONLY the space) presented them with a challenge. They smartly hired Elite Circle event design and coordinating firm Encore Creative to handle the details including lighting, floral, rentals and entertainment. Day- of Coordinator Samantha made sure the day went smoothly for this couple who wanted their guests to relax and enjoy the party!

Their wedding day vision was classic with a modern edge so they chose black, white and gold details with a few surprises. I love how calm they are and there are quite a few sweet moments to share…

How gorgeous are these black bridesmaid dresses and fresh bouquets?!

Ali and Nate are a fun, easy-going couple so of course there had to be some silly moments captured as well as serious moments!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding_Kimberly Jarman Photography_downtown Phoenix_Ali and Nate (6) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding_Kimberly Jarman Photography_downtown Phoenix_Ali and Nate (8)

3 Words: urban, classic, rustic

Ali is “obsessed with succulents” so Encore Creative incorporated them in the bouquets and floral arrangements at the ceremony and reception; they also warmed up the space with candlelight, amber upwash and al fresco lighting. Ali says, “The ambiance and decor was exactly as I imagined it – a perfect backdrop for the exposed brick and rustic nature of the building.”

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding_Kimberly Jarman Photography_downtown Phoenix_Ali and Nate (9)

Favorite Moment: At the beginning of the ceremony when Nate started repeating some phrases from our officiant- I just couldn’t hold back the tears. Nate offered up a tissue to wipe the tears then shortly after, he said he needed it back to also wipe away his tears! Everyone started laughing and it lightened up the moment.

Also, Ali’s sister, who gave birth 2 days before the wedding, surprised her by attending the ceremony with Ali’s newborn nephew!

We opted for food stations to give people some variety. We went with the gourmet slider bar, mac & cheese bar (which was the biggest hit with both kids and adults!), a taco station and salad bar of course. Instead of getting a large 3 tier wedding cake, we went with a small round chocolate cake with white ruffles…and we got a dessert bar with cheesecake pops, macaroons and other yummy items! We definitely got a lot of compliments on the dessert bar and having options besides just cake.

I also surprised Nate with a groom’s cake. I contacted Bamboo Bakery to see if they could make a life size cake shaped like our dog Glen made out of champagne cake… I was pretty nervous thinking that this would either be the most amazing surprise or a total disaster! Luckily the cake turned out great and he was happy with the surprise! It also provided us with one of those funny moments for the night. After we did our cake cutting with the round cake, the caterers told us we had to cut into it ourselves because no one else had the heart to do it! I started to cut and the kids were yelling, “Don’t do it!” So I made Nate do it (of course) and immediately one of the young boys started crying and everyone else started laughing. It was one of those light- hearted moments that I will always remember.

A Beautiful Idea: One thing I have done since the wedding is “repurposed” some of the decor and items from the wedding night. For example, we used picture frames for the table numbers and I printed out and framed wedding photos using those frames and gave them to family members. I also planted some of the succulents from my bouquet in a pot and they are still thriving! I think of the wedding every time I walk by them out my front door. It is a way to keep the memories around us all the time!

Ali and Nate, thank you for sharing your day with us and CONGRATULATIONS!

Destination Honeymoons with Jacada Travel
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons

For many couples, planning the honeymoon is one of the most anticipated parts of planning the wedding. It’s so fun to dream about far away locations and research what to do while out of town on the first vacation you’ll take as husband and wife.

If you are avid travelers, this task might come easily to you but for those of you who don’t plan many adventures of this scope, it can be intimidating. To ease your destination honeymoon planning stress, we share Jacada Travel with you. Jacada Travel provides customized luxury honeymoons complete with detailed itineraries and private guided tours for couples honeymooning in Latin America and Africa. Buenos Aires, Argentina and Cape Town, South Africa are two popular destinations Jacada Travel provides honeymoons for- both destinations are known for their diverse landscape, adventure opportunities and pure romance.

There is so much to do in Buenos Aires, the city that’s been touted the “Paris of South America”: Explore the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, historic home of Tango and a vibrant modern scene of restaurants, bars and culture. Taste your way through the scenic Mendoza wine region, visiting baroque wineries overlooked by the Andes. Relax and explore the picturesque vistas of the Lake District and experience the majesty of Patagonia’s Glaciers.

Cape Town has gained popularity in the last decade as a true honeymooner’s paradise: One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town is a city that can really take your breath away. The horizon dominated by the iconic table-top mountain rising up in the background, whilst in the foreground are the crisp waters of the cape, the laid-back bustle of the city’s waterfront skirted by sandy beaches and picturesque suburbs.

This is the oldest city in South Africa, steeped in history and full of beautiful buildings from its colonial past. The tall mountains and green hills that surround the city have an immensely calming effect helping this to be one of the most relaxing big city visits that you are likely to have.

Arizona Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Applause Entertainment
categories: entertainment, Meet Our Friends, reception ideas, Trends

Mariachis, Magicians, Belly Dancers, and Trapeze Artists…all could be your wedding reception entertainment! It’s not uncommon for wedding receptions to have multiple types of guest entertainment and we know you might be unsure how to find the perfect people for the job. Things could go VERY wrong if you hire a novice team but with Elite Circle vendor Applause Productions, you’ll be working with the most talented and creative people in the business. Mari and Bob, owners of Applause Productions, have been providing entertainment for the wedding industry (and beyond) for years and their professionalism and eye for talent have made them the go-to entertainment group in Arizona.

What never goes out of style as far as wedding entertainment?

What never goes out of style is class. This includes entertainment that highlights the beauty of the event itself…classic strings, harp, a talented pianist at a baby grand, or an acoustic guitar with or without vocal or instrumental accompaniment…all of these highlight the aura of grace and sophistication that is classic wedding entertainment.

What are the most unique entertainment options you have?

We have several unique options. First, we offer electric strings groups that play the classics, but have the ability to merge into rock music and actually stand…their music is memorized and, therefore, the performance becomes much more visual. We have talented harpists that perform in much the same way. If a bride and groom has an affinity for a particular musical or production and want to highlight this in their reception, we have choreographed musical numbers that can stand alone as a showpiece before guests dance, or the couple can integrate themselves into the number itself, using our professional choreographer. We can take a couple that wants to take center stage, literally, and choreograph them into a musical number of their choice. In this way, the “first dance” becomes a showpiece in itself, much different than a traditional first dance. We can also work with brides and grooms who are musicians themselves by incorporating their talent with our bands throughout the evening…We also have aerial bartenders that can  pour champagne or wine and other aerialists who work with silks that captive the guests from the moment they walk into the room.

What has been the most popular wedding entertainment recently ?

Very popular right now is the trend of bands that play live with recorded tracks and also have a DJ built into the band. They utilize technology, video screens, and sometimes even incorporate the use of music videos with live dancers.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Applause Productions_wedding entertainment_reception ideas (2)

What’s your best advice for a couple who has a limited budget but wants to have a really fun reception?

The best way to meet this challenge is to hire a charismatic DJ that is not only very savvy with all of the music, but also sings or plays an instrument to recorded tracks. Also, consider small additions like a fortune teller, lip reader, or pinstripe artist for an extra boost of fun.

How do the entertainment options differ for private residence receptions vs. resort/ballroom receptions?

While it may seem like the entertainment options for a residence and a ballroom might differ, the truth is entertainment can shine no matter what the environment. It is a matter of utilizing the physical space appropriately. A large band sounds best in a resort ballroom with 400 to 500 guests, while an intimate jazz trio works better for a chandelier-draped tent in a backyard. Both can be beautiful; it takes a skilled entertainment professional to offer the right talent after listening to the needs of the bride. Exceptional entertainment can transform the space, no matter how large or small it may be.

Brides and grooms, don’t let the many options available to you become overwhelming- just call Applause Entertainment and we promise, you’re going to have your reception entertainment all buttoned-up in no time!
