Riley and Tad play by their own rules and it’s a good thing they do otherwise they wouldn’t have gotten together! Despite being warned by Riley’s brother to NOT hit on his sister, Tad kind of did anyway. And that first night they met, at Zipp’s watching football, Tad and Riley created a game together that they still  enjoy playing. They also exchanged numbers in secret…see what I mean about not following the rules?!

The Proposal: It was Father’s Day and I set my alarm extra early to make Tad a wonderful breakfast! However, Tad’s alarm went off before mine. I asked him why he had an alarm set and he said it must have been an accident. However, he decided to get up so that we could make cookies for his dad (at 6:30am?!). He insisted that he go to the store at that moment to get all the ingredients. Still a little confused from waking up so early, I agreed. When he left, I started to make the breakfast I had planned and looked for his Father’s Day gift (which I couldn’t find!!). I thought he would be quick at the store, since we only needed butter and measuring cups, so I quickly made his breakfast. Then, I waited and waited! I started to get worried because he had been gone for 45 minutes. Tad came home and came into the room where I was pouting. He then said, “I have some bad news, they didn’t have any measuring cups…” I annoyingly replied, “Of course they didn’t!!” Then he said, “But they did have this…” When I looked down I saw Tad on one knee, holding a beautiful ring. He then asked me to marry him and I said “Yes!”. Turns out he was gone so long because he was asking my parents if he could marry me (a little late if you ask me, but better late than never!!)

Favorite Things:

Riley: Where do I even begin explaining Tad!? Tad truly has a heart of gold. He is always there for me, Addison, his family and friends whenever we are in need. He brings a smile to my face every single day, whether it be with his “wonderful” singing voice while he is giving Addie a bath, showing off his dance moves (which he is very proud of) or taking his shirt off in the middle of a bar, he always lights up my life. One of my very favorite things about Tad is his love of life and how he always wants to have a good time in any situation. We always have fun together and I can’t wait to have fun for the rest of our lives together!

Tad: One of the main things I love about Riley is how we can have fun together in any situation, it is what has drawn us together since the beginning. She loves to have a good time and we can be our weird selves together. I can always count on her to make up a fun game, throw an amazing surprise birthday party or leave me postit notes in my lunch. Riley makes our family whole by being the best mother to our daughter and always showing me love and support. Without her I would be lost in this mixed up world.

Ideal date night: Ordering pizza, drinking some beer/wine and watching Shark Tank!

Downtown Scottsdale is always a favorite spot for engagements because you get the urban vibe and a park setting in close proximity to each other. Arizona’s sunsets are pretty amazing too so plan for some early evening photos if you want that “sweetlight”.

Southwest Sophistication Part 3: The Reception
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, reception ideas, Scottsdale Weddings, the paper chase, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

Part 3 of our Southwest Sophistication styled shoot brings us to the reception dinner on the El Chorro event lawn (did you miss Part 1: The Rehearsal Dinner and Part 2: The Ceremony?). The desert light shines bright as the intimate feasting table is set; the table is framed by a wooden structure that allows lanterns, branches and flowers to be hung above, creating a unique dining space.

One detail we especially love about this table is the metallic crinkle linen that is topped with a softly-hued ikat patterned topper. Similar to adding a runner over top a linen, this adds a nice layer of texture to the table without being too busy. The silver detailing on the dinnerware adds a touch of shine without being overly sparkly. When you have a smaller guest count at your reception, you can add specialty details like these without over doing it on the budget.

The white cake made by Inspired Sugar is so beautiful! 2 things we want you to take away from it: the subtle turquoise stud that ties it into the overall design of the shoot and the completely customized cake stand designed by Victoria Canada. The textures and detailing make it one- of- a- kind and make the cake a standout feature of this shoot. Oh, and always feel free to add a sparkly linen to your cake table for that extra WOW factor!

Luminaries are a signature southwest design element and they add a beautiful glow to the lawn as guests leave the party; add a message to make it uniquely yours.

Southwest Sophistication Part 2: The Ceremony
categories: bridal fashions, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, from the consultants, Scottsdale Weddings, the paper chase

Our Southwest Sophistication wedding inspiration continues (did you miss Part 1: The Rehearsal Dinner?) with the styled shoot of the wedding ceremony; this event has that unmistakable elegant desert color palette of turquoise, grey, and dusty green paired with sparkling metallic elements.

This wooden wedding invitation designed by Page & Mason Invitations has started a mini invitation revolution- owner Amy Wallace has had many inquiries about it since this shoot was seen in the Summer Fall 2013 issue of Phoenix Bride & Groom!

The view of Camelback Mountain from the event lawn is pretty spectacular; wood and iron design pieces are modernized with a chevron petal aisle treatment. The submerged cacti are a cool way to decorate the space with a nod to the natural surround. A bit of peach warms it all up!
