Wedding Inspiration: Southwest Color
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, from the consultants, real weddings, reception ideas, rehearsal dinner spots, Tips and Advice, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

There’s no law saying that when you have your wedding in Phoenix, or really anywhere in Arizona, you have to make the Southwest a dominant theme. We know this of course, and really love when we see Southerners bring in their signature charm or when New Yorkers use their modern big-city sensibilities, but with the desert offering so much in the way of beauty and style, why not embrace the natural surround just a little bit on your wedding day?

We’re not talking Kokopelli and terra cotta (but if you want to use those, go for it!) today, we’re exploring a more sophisticated and colorful take on the Southwest. If you think Arizona is just brown, brown, and more brown, you’ll be delighted by the wide range of colors that evoke a Southwest vibe!

Many couples draw their inspiration from the amazing sunsets that Arizona is known for- pink streaks across the sky are not uncommon at sunrise or sunset and are always breathtaking. This design uses prickly pear, roses, and succulents highlighted by the glimmer of gold- we ADORE it! Erica Velasco_Butterfly Petals_Phoenix Nace

Take your cue from nature and serve light pink margaritas or use bold pinks, gold, and coral in your floral designs.

The state gemstone of Arizona is turquoise so using the actual stone or even just the color at your wedding is a great way to bring in the Southwest

Of course orange, which is a pretty trendy color this year for weddings, is a quintessential Southwest color choice- it goes beautifully with green, red, blue, or really, any color in between!

Without a doubt, the Southwest is vibrant and visually interesting- if you want to mix textures, colors, and patterns when planning your wedding,  you can do it and remain true to the Southwest you love. Have fun with all your options!

Real Arizona Wedding: Jessica and Jeff’s Colorful Desert Wedding
categories: cakes and sweets, destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, from the consultants, real weddings, reception ideas, Scottsdale Weddings, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

Color trend predictions for 2014 and early 2015 weddings lean towards pastels and while the soft tones are a beautiful option, we really love the inherent cheerfulness of bright colors. You may have spotted Jessica and Jeff’s colorful desert wedding in our recent issue but there were so many more details that we want to share with you so if you want bright and colorful, take your cue from this luxurious affair in the  Arizona desert.

The turquoise bridesmaid dresses pop against the neutral tones of the desert- so gorgeous!

Engaged: Krista and Heather
categories: Engagement, Wedding Inspiration

We’re suckers for a good story so when Krista approached our publisher at a bridal event with her admiration for our same sex featured wedding (see David and Emmanuel’s wedding here), we jumped on the chance to share her love story with you.

Krista and Heather’s love story: {Krista} I met Heather a little over five years ago and knew instantly that she was my future wife. To be a tad bit cheesy, she is the ying to my yang. When the federal government embraced our love and accepted us as a married couple we decided to finally take the plunge. Since Arizona is not quite there yet, we decided to do things a little backwards. In November, we were married in San Diego California and we are having our wedding reception here in Arizona! We have rented Juniper Wells Ranch for the entire weekend… since our family is all from out of state we have rented the ranch/ winery for everyone to stay on. It has cabins, yurts and tee pees and it is going to be a fun, beautiful weekend spent with our closest sixty family members and friends.

3 words to describe your relationship: honesty, loyalty and loving

The Proposal: Heather proposed to me in our first apartment together. We were all packed up and getting ready to move the next day. I came home and she had candles lit everywhere, roses and a bottle of wine. The funny part was that I had packed the wine opener so she had to open the wine bottle with a screwdriver. She was trying so hard to be romantic, yet struggling so hard with the wine bottle, it was adorable. She told me that her entire life she had been searching for me. When God brought me into her life, she knew I was the one and she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. There was no doubt in my heart that I felt exactly the same way!

Favorite things:

Krista: Heather’s compassion. She always stops to help someone who is lost, feeds the homeless, has great patience with strangers and loves with all her heart.

Heather: My favorite thing about Krista is her giving heart and her beautiful smile.

Ideal date night: A nice dinner in Old Town Scottsdale followed by a movie at home cuddling with our dog Zoey.

Krista also wore her mother’s wedding gown for a few photos. The beautiful story: …I wanted so badly to be able to honor my mother and her beautiful wedding day from 1979, but I had no idea how to do it. Her dress was beautiful, but older in style and not what I imagined for my day. So, I came up with an idea. I called my mother and asked her if I could use the lace from her dress for my wedding bouquet. She was very excited and shipped me the dress, but what I really did was a true honor. I called my glam squad [and] I did a photo shoot in my mother’s dress. On the day of our wedding I presented the photos to her, along with the special photo just for my dad, holding a sign saying “Forever your little girl.”

When we think about Regan and Shaun’s wedding, two things stand out: 1.Everything about this romantic affair is completely gorgeous (of course, it helps that the bride works alongside her sister who is the owner of a well-respected event design firm in the valley!) and 2. Regan and Shaun are crazy in love and have a tangible bond.

What else will you love about it? The undeniable style that the bride and groom exude, the adorable kids (the couple each have a daughter plus they have a son together), and an unforgettable reception. Enjoy!

The sweetest moment:  Regan and Shaun exchanged rings with each other’s daughters as an expression of their commitment to the family; this is such a special way to include children in the ceremony.

This head table, with it’s dramatic lighting and luxurious white bride and groom chairs is one for the books! Notice how the reception incorporates many textures- you’ll see crystals, sparkly stationery and signs, ribbon, wood, multi-dimensional linens, mercury glass, and lace all expertly coordinated.
