White Haute Urban Night- Our Party in the City!
categories: cakes and sweets, fabulous reception sites, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, Meet Our Friends, photography, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Resources

What can we say? We like a good party! It’s a given that we work hard so we can enjoy the people in the wedding industry and this year’s White Haute Urban Night party was no exception. Our party partners include a wide range of friends- some we’ve known for many years, some we’re getting to know- and we respect all of them immensely for the work they do day in and day out for their clients and their colleagues.

Our party was in the city this year at the historic Red Bricks on 7th so our event coordinator, Care Schmidt, of Sterling Weddings and Events, created a chic and fresh turquoise, white and silver affair. It was the perfect way to dress up the historic red bricks that are the major design feature of this event venue.

The floor to ceiling windows added a hip vibe to our evening; how fun is this lounge? Take our word for it, it was comfy!

Our evening ended with all of us switching out our heels to flats and lounging in the lounge chatting and laughing- a sure sign of a successful party!

First Look- What are the Rules?
categories: Tips and Advice, Wedding Inspiration

Everyone has heard it before: “It’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her wedding gown before the ceremony.” Well, supposedly rain at your wedding is bad luck, wearing black to a wedding is bad luck, bells ringing is bad luck… the list goes on. So depending on how superstitious you are, you may or may not follow the slew of “rules” that surround wedding traditions.

When it comes to a first look, it’s understandable that a couple might not want to see each other before the ceremony and we respect that decision BUT if you’re considering breaking that ol’ rule, we’re in the background cheering you on (and so is your photographer). Should you decide to do a first look, here’s what you should know:

1. Make sure your photographer knows about it and is given time to prepare. They will want their second shooter strategically positioned so both the bride and groom’s faces can be seen.

2. Decide ahead of time if you are going to allow other people (your family, bridal party, etc.) to watch your first look. It can be a very special and intimate moment and you may choose to do it in private.

3. Do what feels right. If you don’t dance, don’t feel like you have to just for pictures. If you shed a tear, wear those tears proudly (but if you don’t, don’t fake it). If you are in awe of how gorgeous your bride looks, show it! Your initial reaction and the tender and fun moments that follow will be captured by your photographer and you’ll treasure those pictures.

4. Both of you do not have to participate! If one of you wants to see the other (this often helps alleviate ceremony nerves) but the other doesn’t, you have options! There are doors to divide you, blindfolds to wear, even a pink boa can do the trick!

Many times, when we ask brides what their favorite memory is from their wedding day, they say it was their First Look. Here’s a few of our Real Arizona brides who were so happy they decided to do one:

Kristan: We unanimously have to say our “first look” because it was a chance for us to be alone and enjoy each other before all the chaos and excitement of the day and night started.

AngelaOur favorite moment was the “first look”. Andrew and Carter, Andrew’s son, were waiting for me. I tapped on Andrew’s shoulder first and we shared a teary moment. Then I tapped on Carter’s shoulder. It was special to see our little family without everyone else around.

Jeannette: …our first look and having that intimate time together before the ceremony

Ali: …my sister walked me out to a bridge to meet John for pictures. He was turned around while I walked out to see him. It was great to see each other and have a quiet moment with just us 2.

The first thing about Emily and Alex’s wedding that grabbed our attention was Emily’s wedding gown. You know what we mean right? The lace, the sheer back, the absolutely stunning elegance of it…we’re swooning for real over here! But then you see all the other details like the exquisite bouquet, the blush bridesmaids dresses, the champagne escort cards, and of course the genuine FUN the couple has together and you can’t help but be a fan. Cheers to Emily and Alex’s classy garden wedding right here in the desert!

Emily said that when she first walked into the ballroom, she felt like she was “walking into a wonderland”; crystal, lace, and mirrored design elements were paired perfectly with rustic wood flower boxes, hydrangeas, roses, succulents, and candles.

Amanda and Ryan’s urban rooftop wedding at The Westin Phoenix Downtown was chic and modern paired with softer elements for a bit of romance. The couple chose a black, white and green color palette that glowed with an abundance of candlelight reflecting off the glass buildings that surrounded the space.

The bride surprised her groom with their tuxedo clad dog Tyson- pretty cute, right?

The bride tells us about the programs: Perhaps my favorite detail was the wedding programs. We designed them ourselves, were a perfect expression of our dry wit and sarcasm, and provided guests with some interesting trivia about the two of us.

The Westin Phoenix Downtown offers a unique blend of elegance with an urban vibe- perfect for a couple looking for something different in Phoenix!

We love this picture- the bride reaching out to her mom, the buildings creating an intimate space for the ceremony, the petal design on the aisle…it’s all so  beautiful

Phoenix’s famous vortex art piece offers a unique backdrop to the reception- it was inspired by Arizona’s monsoon cloud formations and it shifts and changes shape with the wind.
