Great Find: Belusso Swimwear 2015
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, Trends

We must have vacation on the brain because when we spied Belusso Swimwear’s Resort 2015 collection on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2015, we literally did a happy dance! These super sexy suits and cover ups feature many of the season’s hottest trends including monokinis, feather motifs, fringe, and cut–outs but also, we really REALLY like the colors. Some are sunset inspired, some are dark and dramatic. Either way, they’re perfect for honeymoon wear.

The shimmer in both the suit and cover up elevate the swimwear pieces from beach babe to resort diva. Work. It.

Wedding Advice: Mother of the Bride Dresses
categories: bridal fashions, Tips and Advice

Brides, we know that shopping for your wedding gown is pretty high on your wedding planning list- it’s that iconic event that can really push a bride over the edge from being excited about her wedding to being head over heels in love with her wedding- but once you choose your gown, you’ll help mom find her perfect dress, right? Even though she doesn’t want to take any of the spotlight from you, she has her own dreams about how she will look on the big day and finding the “one” is critical.

Elite Circle bridal shop Schaffer’s Bridal has a large selection of wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and mother of the bride dresses and since they have so much experience making all the ladies look extra beautiful on the wedding day, we asked them for their most popular MOB/MOG styles and some advice.

This dress by Alyce Paris is our #1 selling Mother of the Bride/Groom dress. It’s flattering to ANY mom who wears it and it comes in many color options…and the price is great! It also has just a small beaded trim along the neckline, with an asymmetrical skirt.

 Phoenix Bride and Groom-Wedding magazine_Arizona_mother of the bride dresses_Schaffers Bridal_Scottsdale (2)

This cap sleeve, satin chiffon, full length dress with sheer neckline and beaded embroidered lace bodice is also by Alyce Paris. It offers just a little bit of glitz with some old Hollywood glamour.

Phoenix Bride and Groom-Wedding magazine_Arizona_mother of the bride dresses_Schaffers Bridal_Scottsdale (1)

This dress is actually a bridesmaid dress by Jim Hjelm.  Sometimes bridesmaids dresses are the best kept secrets for moms! The trick is to find a bridesmaid dress that doesn’t look too “bridesmaidsy”. This one has a cowl draped neckline with a natural waist; the fabric is a beautiful chiffon and is also available in many colors.

Tips for finding a fabulous Mother of the Bride/Mother of the Groom dress:

-Consult the couple. Make sure you have a clear idea of the formality, colors, and style of the wedding before you choose your dress. If the wedding is a Saturday brunch wedding, you definitely don’t want to wear a ballgown. Conversely, if the wedding is a full-on formal affair, wearing a dress with a whimsical floral pattern is probably not the look you want. Asking the bride and groom if there is anything they absolutely would not want you to wear is appropriate- it’s their day and this isn’t the time to make a statement.

-Plan ahead. You may need to order your dress and get alterations which can all take up to 6 months (sometimes longer). Make sure you have a fitting scheduled a few weeks before the wedding so that you know the dress fits perfectly and if it doesn’t, there’s still time for last minute adjustments.

-Color is key. When it comes to the color of your dress, you don’t want to match the bridesmaids but you also don’t want to stand out with a busy pattern or loud color. The best wedding pictures we see are those where the family members are not necessarily color coordinated perfectly but the general tone is the same- soft neutrals, shades of blue, etc.

-Be comfortable. You can definitely find a dress that’s a great match for the wedding that allows you to enjoy yourself and feel beautiful without being uncomfortable. If you don’t normally wear one-shoulder dresses, you may not want to debut that style at the wedding. If you’re self-conscious of your knees, choose a dress that hides them. You’ll enjoy the wedding day so much more if you feel good and wearing a dress that distracts you will not help you feel good.

Schaffer’s Bridal: The advantage of purchasing a mother of the wedding dress at a salon, such as Schaffer’s, is that our looks are very different than the department stores.  Most of our lines that we carry are NOT available in department stores, so you don’t have to worry about a guest showing up in the same dress (which happens occasionally!).

Historically, Arizona has been a vacation and wedding destination hot spot partly due to the plethora of luxury resorts and partly because of the state’s perfect winter weather. Because Arizona boasts such a reputation, many couples who have vacationed here for years with their families choose to get married at a particular resort, reinforcing their connection to the desert. Lindsay and Daniel are one such couple. They live in London but Lindsay would often visit family here in Arizona who happen to be neighbors of The Hermosa Inn. She always enjoyed sitting on the patio and hearing the music coming from the Inn each night.

Lindsay shares her wedding vision with us: When we came to The Hermosa Inn, we had already married in London in a small town hall ceremony several weeks before. Having a second ceremony in Phoenix was very important to us so we could celebrate our marriage with all of my (Lindsay’s) extended family. We knew we wanted a venue that was intimate and had a classic desert style (so that Dan could feel like a cowboy for a day!) and The Hermosa Inn was the natural choice. In the end it was perfect and we celebrated our vows with roughly 25 members of our family in their old converted library.

One thing we noticed immediately is the couple’s wedding style. Lindsay explains: I knew I wanted something very simple and elegant and was very happy to find my perfect dress at J Crew. Always a little nervewracking when ordering overseas but it fit like a glove.  Dan found his suit at Ben Sherman in London and went for a plum colour to be a bit different. We deliberated for ages between choosing a conservative suit or something more colourful and in the end, the plum won out.

Favorite moment: Our favourite moment was when we saw each other walking down the aisle. Dan played his guitar and sang while I walked towards him on the arm of my Dad. It was very special.

I just love how Lindsay and Daniel crack each other up, even during the ceremony!

Favorite things about each other: Daniel makes everyone he meets feel instantly at home;  Lindsay has the biggest heart of anyone I know and always makes me feel like I’m number 1.

The reception was at Lon’s- the Hermosa Inn’s highly acclaimed restaurant- among glowing candlelight and centerpieces of peonies, roses, berries, and succulents; the rustic wooden flower boxes tied in with the desert surround and the couple’s desire to have a classic desert wedding. The evening was simple and sweet.

Congratulations Lindsay and Daniel and thank you for sharing your wedding day with us!

The Hermosa Inn, a luxury boutique hotel located in Paradise Valley, has been a recognized destination in the desert Southwest since the 1930’s. The Inn offers exclusive lodging accommodations and is known for personal service, making the romantic inn an ideal retreat for weddings.

Wedding Trends: Small Bites, Big Flavor
categories: cakes and sweets, reception ideas, Tips and Advice, Trends, trends in catering, Wedding Inspiration

Food and weddings have a dicey past. I’ve personally had my share of dry salmon (no matter how much butter or cream you top it with, it remains parched), tasteless chicken (pound it too flat to make it look plentiful on the plate and there’s no fixing that sad piece of poultry), and overcooked beef (like my Texan friends say about grilling temps, “Hockey Puck It!”). Let’s face it, jokes made about meals at weddings are not usually complimentary but now, thanks to the plethora of delicious choices when it comes to your wedding meal, these types of jokes are a thing of the past (IF you hire the right caterer).

Arizona is home to many talented and exciting chefs and caterers that truly enjoy working with you to make a full course wedding menu that reflects you as a couple. Often, brides and grooms want to feed their guests a variety of tastes, textures, and styles of food but it can be a mistake to serve too many options all on one plate. To avoid a hodge-podge wedding meal, we  suggest “Small Bites” for big flavor and variety.

Brunch can be quite the culinary inspiration. We’ll take these over coffee and bagels any day: Petite Eggs Benedict, Cucumber, apple, fennel and celery juice smoothie, Cheddar breakfast strata wrapped in bacon, French toast stacks with balsamic glazed strawberry compote topped with mascarpone crema, and Strawberry, apple, beet and lime juice sipper.

Entrees made mini (so they are only one or two bites) will allow guests to sample a variety of your favorite dishes. Bonus: if you have guests at your wedding who have dietary restrictions, small bites are a great way to offer many options so every guest can be satisfied!

When artisan ingredients like delicious figs, flavor-packed prosciutto, and juicy apricots are incorporated, pizza on a warming griddle makes a fun and appropriate appetizer

Soup and Salad never looked like this before- surprise your guests with unique presentations like martini glasses and shot glasses

Pistachio encrusted pork tenderloin with winter squash and roasted red pepper puree is a substantial entree option; even though it might be a “3 bite” dish, it’s still a mini version of the original

Specialty entrees like Beef Tenderloin (accompanied by gorgonzola crumbles atop a crisp potato cube) and Butter Poached Lobster with 6 Cheese Macaroni and Cheese are perfect for adding a wow factor to your menu without breaking your budget

Seafood and sushi can get pricey when serving 100+ guests but when offered in smaller portions, you don’t have to do without! Black sesame tuna atop a triangle crisp, citrus-poached shrimp ceviche, and seared diver scallops (with smoked corn mash, tomato poblano jam, crema, and micro cilantro) will make a lasting impression

Who doesn’t love short ribs? Choose braised short ribs with herbed polenta rounds and a chive and sundried tomato sprinkle for a hearty mini entree; this is one bite guests will be talking about well after the wedding.

Vegetarian options can be tempting in mini portions; Petite Fry Breads with Arizona Goat Cheese, Anasazi Bean Mash, and Local Tomato or Petite Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Raspberry puree and Bleu Cheese pack so much flavor, no one will miss the meat!

Tiny desserts are a natural choice- when your favorite pies, cakes, and tarts get the bite-size treatment, you can have more than one!

Brooke’s Kate Spade inspired bridal shower came to us via event planner Victoria Canada who has a passion for all things party. Of course we love the black and white polka dots and stripes paired with gold dots that are classic Kate Spade but we also really love events where there are fun, witty, and thoughtful details. Brooke’s bridal shower is just that and we know you’ll love it!

Victoria Canada shares her thoughts on the design: When our bride told us she wanted a Kate Spade inspired bridal shower, we were beyond thrilled. I mean, who wouldn’t want to help create an event with options as classic and timeless as everything Kate Spade?! The shower ended up being just that with a mix of classic and modern looks and pops of glitter everywhere you looked! The bride is getting married in Newport Beach and is using muted pastels throughout the event to match the coastal feel, so we were so excited to be able to incorporate more bold colors into her bridal shower.

For the floral, we wanted something fun and unique but that would not take away from the rest of the décor. Petal Pusher popped the arrangements with colorful monochromatic centerpieces. But the icing on the cake was the gold sequins in each vase to add that perfect bit of sparkle in the water.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona weding magazine_Scottsdale_Bridal Shower_Kate Spade_pink_black_white_gold_Brooke (3)

Brooke loves to give gifts so we knew the favors had to be extra fabulous and creative. Champagne is a necessity at any brunch and the bride loved the idea of having one more excuse to share some with her guests. We picked Pommery POP Rose because of the cute mini bottles they come in and the delicious Rose taste (we used bottles of bubbles for the kids!) With a little bit of confetti and a Kate Spade inspired quote “Pop Some Bubbly, Throw Some Confetti” the favors turned out more like décor and were a huge hit.

We asked Brooke what her Favorite Thing was at the shower. She tells us: I love Kate Spade and my bridal shower was a true reflection of that style. I enjoyed all of the little details, from the napkins resembling a bow to the polka dot and stripe linens. My favorite thing was the flower vases with sequins. Each table had a number or different colored floral arrangements with bright sequins in each vase. The sequins were such a small detail but added an unexpected element to what could have been simple flower centerpieces. The entire day was perfect, it’s a challenge to find a favorite.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona weding magazine_Scottsdale_Bridal Shower_Kate Spade_pink_black_white_gold_Brooke (11)

On making the decor unique, Canada says: From the start we knew we wanted the focus to be the classic yet graphic black and white stripes and polka dots that always seem to be oh so Kate Spade. We also wanted to add our own creative touches to the event. Napkins were the perfect way to mix designs to add personality! We folded the napkins into bows and finished them off with a touch of glitter ribbon in the middle for a fun feminine touch.

Brooke’s Favorite Moment: Spending the day with my closest friends and family was my favorite part of my bridal shower. I surprised all of the mother figures in my life and my sisters with a gift at their seat when they arrived. Wrapped in polka dot paper and tied with a gold glitter bow were matching Kate Spade bracelets. I loved to see the excitement and happy tears that these bracelets brought, as we would all be wearing the same bracelet on my wedding day.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona weding magazine_Scottsdale_Bridal Shower_Kate Spade_pink_black_white_gold_Brooke (12)

Guests embraced the theme with black and white gift wrap- so fun! Of course, the beautiful bride to be was outfitted in Kate Spade from head to toe!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona weding magazine_Scottsdale_Bridal Shower_Kate Spade_pink_black_white_gold_Brooke (13)

More from Canada: Other favorite elements were the bold pink chair ties that added the perfect amount of color, the custom signs for the mini cakes (“Eat Cake for Breakfast”) and drinks (“Mimosas In The Morning” and “Bellini’s for Breakfast”)- each detail added up to one perfect and undeniably classy bridal shower.

Thank you for sharing this shower with us Victoria and Congratulations Brooke!

Groundbreaking News in Wedding Cinematography
categories: Trends, videography, Wedding Inspiration

Elite Circle cinematography company Serendipity Cinematography, a well-established film company in Arizona that’s known for being on the cutting edge of technology and supreme customer service, just told us about a “game changer” in the film industry. For them to say that, we knew it must be big news.

Serendipity now has the ability to share wedding films that looks just like a DVD except for the fact that your wedding film is not a DVD. It’s actually online. This means that your wedding film is able to be viewed (featuring an interactive menu) on your smart TV, computer, phone, or tablet. The entire film, along with all the various features available, can be viewed ANYWHERE you have an internet connection. And anyone you share the link with can view it too. This. Is. Amazing!

Here’s the home page of the first film Serendipity has created using this new platform:

And here’s one of the extra features pages:

Only 100 companies in the nation have access to this new platform and Serendipity Cinematography is 1 of them. That fact alone should tell you that Serendipity Cinematography is a company to keep your eye on (and hire for your wedding cinematography).
