Amanda and Kurt’s destination wedding was fueled by their desire for a warm and sunny wedding weekend with friends and family. Amanda recalls: A destination wedding in Arizona seemed perfect to Kurt and I. It was an opportunity for our friends and family to escape to warm weather and enjoy a long weekend together. The focus of our wedding weekend was shaped by our friends and family. I really wanted to get married outside and to be able to have the ceremony and reception at the same location. Sassi was the perfect fit for us. We were able to rent out the entire venue for our wedding which allowed us to use all the beautiful property.

We really love the classic and elegant details in both the bride and groom’s attire along with bright pops of color in the floral designs and reception decor.

Some Like it Classic had a great idea for the escort cards- we hung them from this beautiful tree at Sassi. Guests had such a fun time looking for their names.

The couple wanted the reception to feel like family dinner so they utilized Sassi’s various dining areas and treated their guests to a memorable feast.  When guests arrived to dinner there was a family style caprese salad, warm olives and bread. Then they received their plated entrees. It was important to me that the flowers felt natural and not so constructed. I wanted it to feel romantic so we had tons of candle light. I love the circular menus in Italian and the bold navy napkins with the gold chargers. It was eclectic, chic and beautiful. I didn’t want it to be formal but inviting.

We created the after party room to be a full on party! We used a more conversational seating arrangement, a big dance floor and fun linens! We wanted everyone to walk into that room to dance! It was great to offer our guests a different feel and surprise after dinner.

Many couples planning their weddings in Arizona want to plan a wedding that could happen in any large city, not necessarily a desert city, and that’s what Kendra and David were aiming for. They wanted an urban feel to their wedding day that was infused with personal details and they achieved this in the prettiest ways.

Bride Kendra tells us: From the urban setting with planes flying high overhead to a shuffleboard table at the reception (we met over a game of shuffleboard at a local sports bar), each bridesmaid wearing a different color/style of dress,  and one of my best friends marrying us (including a reading from my favorite TV show- Friends), everything was very personalized, non-traditional and perfect.

Another way Kendra brought a personal touch to her wedding day look was through her accessories. She wore a multi-strand pearl necklace with vintage broach – made of one necklace from my Grandma, given to me before she passed away so she could be present at the wedding, one from Mom, one from my Aunt and one from my Great Grandmother that my Mom had kept.

So sweet and meaningful!

The reception was at Icehouse which is basically a very large blank canvas- perfect for a couple with a vision. Kendra explains what she and David created for their wedding reception: We turned an empty warehouse into a romantic venue with gorgeous pink and purple flowers, soft blue lighting and table numbers on wine bottles from the best man’s winery…the flowers (peonies, ranunculus, garden roses, lisianthus, hydrangeas and succulents) were set against dove grey linens.

Wedding Trend: Antlers
categories: floral inspiration, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

We’re not really sure how the antler trend got started but it has definitely caught on in the most interesting and beautiful ways. We have a spectacular feature in our Winter Spring 2015 issue that includes antlers, among other things (how DOES one incorporate taxidermy into a wedding???), plus we’re sharing some of our favorite ways to use these rustic but surprisingly chic accessories at your wedding.

Lindsay and Michael’s Geek Chic wedding theme is fitting for this couple who loves to flaunt their nerdy side! Bride Lindsay explains: My husband is a PhD candidate and I have a degree in English Literature so we made sure to have items in our wedding that reflected those interests- we used centerpieces placed in beakers, stacks of vintage books, a Star Wars themed photo booth, and even a Periodic Table of Tables as our seating chart (each element represented one of our guests).

The courtyard at SoHo63 is so open and bright- we love it for ceremonies and portraits

One of our favorite elements of this wedding was the Periodic Table of Tables- a most genius seating chart for a genius couple!

The grey, navy and yellow color palette went perfectly with the contemporary decor of the venue; Lindsay tells us how she chose her colors: Our color scheme was grey, navy, and yellow, an idea I got from a specific episode of Doctor Who, which we thought highlighted our kind of “geek chic” theme and was really set off by the contemporary touches in the venue.

Wedding Inspiration: Marsala, Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, floral inspiration

Deciding on your wedding color palette can be one of those decisions that comes easily or is the source of much anxiety. Some couples just know what colors they want- whether they’re inspired by their alma mater, a favorite color they have in common, or the sunset, it’s just a simple choice. But for those who don’t have a clear idea of what colors they want, it can be a struggle.

For those who just don’t know where to start, we suggest consulting Pantone’s color palettes- they know color combos and what’s coming up as far as trends for the next year in fashion, decor, and weddings. The company just released their “Color of the Year 2015” and it’s Marsala. A warm and deep hue of red that might seem limiting at first but can be quite easy to work with when you keep an open mind. Here is some Marsala wedding inspiration to get you started:
