Wedding Inspiration: Ghost Chairs
categories: fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

There’s this chair. And we’re in love with it. See, it’s really beautiful, has great lines, and is more versatile than it looks. It’s also got an intriguing name…it’s the Ghost Chair. Have you heard of it? Have you seen it at weddings? We have and trust us, it’s a good one!

The clear acrylic ghost chair was chosen to accompany this glamorous table at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa- what we love about it is that it can be in a completely glammed up setting without stealing the spotlight. You can see through the entire chair so it makes for an interesting visual effect as guests approach their reception table (see more of this lovely photoshoot in our Winter Spring issue and online).

This festive room is from the WIPA Phoenix holiday party at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch and we love how the clear chairs blend in and let the fun table linens shine but add a bit of sass to the overall decor. Plus, you can see there’s a sweet little wrapped gift on each chair- it’s so tempting to run, not walk, to your spot when you see that!

Mixing chair styles, like this couple did, is a cool way to decorate your wedding reception; the white decor is anything but dull when you have subtle shimmer and shine

They added Mr and Mrs decals to their own chairs- a modern take on bride and groom signs!

And here’s an example of just how versatile the ghost chair can be! Who would have thought it would pair so well with rustic feasting tables and bright yellow loosely arranged floral arrangements? So fun!

Adding a design element to the back of the chair is just another gorgeous way top dress up the ghost chair

With so many options when it comes to rentals, it’s easy to see how some unique and really spectacular options can get overlooked but the Ghost Chair is lovely enough to stand on it’s own (although it plays soooo well with others!).

Kristen and Mark’s love for the English football club Manchester United is the real deal- Kristen grew up in a “United” family and Mark played soccer semi-professionally and is a huge fan of the team as well. In fact, during his toast, Kristen’s father said “…his daughter finding a man who loved United was 90% of what he was hoping for in a son-in-law!”. So it’s no surprise that along with a black and white color palette, the couple chose red as an accent color (it’s Manchester United’s primary color). We love the loyalty!

The wedding was beautifully elegant and intimate too- black tuxedos for the guys, black bridesmaids dresses, soft floral accents, and pops of red all come together to make this one stunning wedding…

I wore my mother’s pearl bracelet, a little gold bracelet that I had given my grandmother when I was a child, and my grandfather’s and mother’s rosary beads on my bouquet…Mark wore United cufflinks.

Kristen tells us about the ceremony: We wanted an intimate wedding so our wedding party consisted of only immediate family members. My matron of honor was my Mom, and my three sisters-in-law were bridesmaids. Mark’s best men were his two brothers and his other groomsman was my brother. Our flower girls were our two nieces. The first reading was done by one of Mark’s best friends and the second by my Godparent’s son, who has Down Syndrome. I’ve never been prouder of someone than I was at that moment when he stood up and gave the most beautiful reading in front of 90 people he didn’t know.

We love how the guests moved from dinner outside to the indoor reception that was decorated with sparkly red linens, lots of white flowers, and lounge seating. It was time to party!

Mark had his own Manchester United groom’s cake which was presented while a favorite Manchester United song, “Glory Glory Man United”, played in the background. They’re die-hard fans for sure!

Wedding Inspiration: Pink and Blush
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, floral inspiration, reception ideas, Scottsdale Weddings, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

It might take some warming up to Pantone’s color of the year– Marsala- so in the meantime, pastels are a gorgeous place to be and the lovely softness of pink and blush is undeniable. These two hues also happen to be colors couples are still gravitating towards (can you blame them?). Prettiness awaits…

Krystal and Alan’s wedding day was one of pure fun and happiness- you’ll see them cracking each other up throughout the day and we kind of adore that!

Choosing THE gown: As a child I was very high maintenance and would always dress up. I always wanted to wear a pretty dress, have my hair done, wear gloves, etc. no matter where I went. As I grew older I became more simple. When looking for a dress I didn’t really know what I was looking for besides wanting a dress that would be simple and elegant and definitely not a ball gown! When I saw my wedding dress, I joked with my cousin Gabi and my mom and said, “This is the dress 5-year-old Krystal would wear to the wedding.” For fun, mom and I decided to try the dress on to definitely rule out the ball gown look. However, I was pleasantly surprised and loved the dress. All the dresses I tried on from there on out I kept comparing to my dress.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding magazine_real wedding_pink_crystal_Scottsdale wedidng_EyeShot Photography (2)

Favorite memory: This is a tough question. I had a lot of favorite moments with family, friends, and Alan. I would say one of my favorite moments with Alan was during the getting ready process. I had just finished getting my hair and make-up done when I heard a knock at the door. I thought it may be the hair and make-up artist, my bridesmaids, or my mom. Lo and behold when I opened the door it was Alan. We were both shocked/excited/overwhelmed/happy to share a moment of privacy together. It was definitely a pre-look before the first look on accident.

We love the idea of the bridesmaids holding these cute signs for the first look

Eyeshot Wedding Photography Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding magazine_real wedding_pink_crystal_Scottsdale wedidng_EyeShot Photography (33)

Krystal’s mom had a custom poster made for the ceremony by a New York artist and an iron cross made by a Tucson craftsman; Krystal wore a U of A garter as a nod to the place where she and Alan met.

The reception decor, which was modern like the venue, was given a romantic touch with roses in shades of pink; silver and crystal accents made the room shine; the spectacular 3 tier cake was adorned with silver pearls for texture (so pretty, right?).

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding magazine_real wedding_pink_crystal_Scottsdale wedidng_EyeShot Photography (9) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding magazine_real wedding_pink_crystal_Scottsdale wedidng_EyeShot Photography (10)

Uplighting and a custom gobo made the room feel like a party…the couple’s fun attitude helped too!

We’re proponents for wedding video/cinematography and this video is a stellar example from Serendipity Cinematography for why you’ll want photo AND video at your wedding!

Congratulations Krystal and Alan and thank you for sharing your wedding day with us!

Wedding Trend: The Modern Wedding Cake
categories: cakes and sweets, fabulous reception sites

While wedding cakes never actually left the wedding scene entirely, they seemingly to took a back seat to alternative dessert options in recent years; clever dessert tables, individual mini-desserts, and let’s face it, the uber-charming cupcake, all took the wedding cake spotlight and ran with it. But now, well, we’ve seen so many spectacular wedding cakes recently that it’s official: the Wedding Cake, with it’s multi-tiered, multi-flavored, multi-textured glory, is back in a big way!

So what makes a wedding cake modern? We like to think it’s part class, part ingenuity, and part “wow” factor. One of our featured weddings- Lindsey Walker & Alexander Porter’s– includes a cake that exemplifies the modern wedding cake perfectly.

Villa Siena_piece of cake_Walker Porter

This beauty was designed by Piece of Cake Desserts, a well-respected bakery in Arizona and Elite Circle member, and we knew you needed to know more about it. Here’s what Piece of Cake owner Kevin Kossman shared: …we piped hundreds of dots out of royal icing and then went back over the dots and hand painted them gold so they would shine!  We finished it off with light pink gum paste peonies and roses to match the wedding flowers. The flavors were (1/2) White Almond Infusion cake with almond cream cheese filling and (1/2) Vanilla cake with raspberry compote filling.
