Barbara and Stephen’s sweet Spring wedding featured a color palette of blush pink, ivory and gray (along with some Chicago Cubs love thrown in!); the reception was at the iconic Arizona Biltmore, a place the couple fondly remembers as a date destination.

So fun- the couple invited friends for cocktails and lawn games between the ceremony and reception at a local Irish Pub.

Peonies, hydrangea, and roses made for pretty floral arrangements; metallic touches added just the right bit of shine.

Arizona Wedding Vendor Spotlight: J. Starr Stylized Events
categories: Meet Our Friends, reception ideas, Tips and Advice, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Resources

There’s no doubt in our minds (and hopefully yours) that you’ll need a wedding planner for your wedding day happiness. The person you hire to help you plan your wedding is not only the person you turn to for advice, timeline coordination and vendor recommendations, he/she is also your personal advocate, your “boots on the ground”, your gatekeeper, and the key to your relaxation on your wedding day. So you can imagine how important it is to hire a wedding planner that is experienced, passionate, easy to work with, organized, and competent.

One such wedding planner here in Arizona is Jennifer Starr of J. Starr Stylized Weddings & Events. She designed and set up our booth at a recent wedding expo and we loved every minute of working with her. Meet Jennifer and find out what makes her tick, why she loves her job, and what she thinks are some fabulous trends in weddings this year!

Where does your inspiration for planning events come from? I draw a lot of inspiration for the Wedding Industry from people and music. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know my couples and listening to their stories and learning about how their lives inter weaved with each other to become a couple. I’m most passionate about finding artistic ways to share their personalities and stories in their Wedding Design. Often times, during my initial meetings I ask my couples to share with me their favorite songs, their favorite musical artists. There is nothing more professionally rewarding to me than seeing my couples walk into their venue the day of the wedding and feel blown away by seeing the best versions of themselves and their story as couple come to life.

What are your strengths as an event planner? I’m often told that I’m a very “easy going” planner. I think this comes from my years of experience in the industry. I’ve learned that no matter how many details are perfected, when you’re dealing with hundreds of wedding guests, large bridal parties, and a handful of vendors on a highly emotional day…plans often change. As a planner, yes you MUST plan for perfection, but you also have to be flexible and accommodating when necessary in certain situations for the better of all involved. You must also have several back up plans. And most importantly you must always act in full control of the situation and reassure your clients that everything is handled.

What do you think is the key to a fabulous wedding? I think the key to a fabulous wedding is simply…making it yours. Forget the other weddings you’ve attended, forget what you’ve seen in the movies, and forget any preconceived “rules” you have in your head regarding the way things are “supposed” to go. Every relationship is completely unique as should be every wedding day. Your wedding day should be filled with everything you love….the people, the location, the food, the style, the music….it’s an amazing opportunity to showcase yourselves as individuals and now as a joined couple.

What are a few trends for weddings in 2015 that you’re loving? I love, love, love romantic, classic weddings….therefore my favorite big trends for 2015 are: Modern Calligraphy, Greenery, and Loose & Romantic Up Dos.

Nothing is more beautiful than seeing human handwriting in the mail…and to see that in calligraphy form is even better. The invitation is the very first peek into your Wedding Day, it’s incredibly important that this element set the tone for your most special day.

In nearly every styled shoot or bridal publication you will see tons of greenery being weaved into the ceremony arches , tablescapes, chair garlands, and centerpieces. It’s a great way to add “loose structure” to the design pieces and also an excellent way for the other colors to really “pop” against the green.

I love the loose romantic up dos ….they create soft delicateness, yet keeping the bride’s hairstyle timeless.

Amara Resort and Spa in Sedona
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, Sedona
Sometimes a girl just needs a spa day. You feel us right? Well, Jessica, one of our lovely regional sales reps and unofficial in-house photographer didn’t even know she needed a spa day but we sent her to Sedona for a spa treatment at Amara Resort & Spa anyway. It’s the tough tasks like this one that make working at Phoenix Bride & Groom super rewarding…

Amara Resort & Spa in Sedona recently underwent a $1 million property redesign and they invited us to experience the variety of new Sedona-centric services exclusive to the resort. Jessica headed to the spa with her cousin who is engaged and was visiting from the east coast. This was her cousin’s first time EVER going to a spa so you can imagine what a great time they had!

Jessica tells us: We arrived a little early, and after checking in with the spa desk, we took a few minutes to explore the property. Amara is nestled right along Oak Creek, in uptown Sedona. The open lobby and restaurant are modern and welcoming, with interesting architectural details.

The spa staff was wonderful…friendly and helpful. After changing into our comfy spa robes, we took to the relaxation lounge to await our therapists. Comfortable oversized chairs, warm tea, cool cucumber water and healthy snacks were set out, along with books and magazines about the area.

The massage was fantastic. My therapist focused on problem areas, (my shoulders and neck are always my problem), and was very in tune with how much pressure was right for me. During the massage, she dripped warm aromatic oils down my spine, and explained the healing properties of each one. They smelled amazing, and totally helped push me deeper into relaxation. I faded in and out of consciousness the whole time, without a care in the world. It was wonderful.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Destination wedding_Sedona_spa_Amara Resort and Spa (3)
When my treatment was over, I met my cousin back in the relaxation room- she was in the same mellow and happy state that I was in…not wanting to let the feeling go, we took to the steam sauna for a while, and then made use of the showers and boudoir to get dressed and face the world again. It was a lovely escape, and one I hope we get to make again!

Native American rattles, sage smudging, healing crystals, chakra balancing, custom oil blends of lavender, rosemary and sage that rain down the spine and the detoxifying properties of local Sedona mud, help guests reconnect spiritually to the local environment and harness the metaphysical energy of the area for which Sedona has become famous. Set against red rock panoramas and nestled along Oak Creek, Amara Spa adds another dimension of peace and tranquility. The spa’s new enchanting experiences are rich in native ingredients and reflect a sincere love for the area. Some favorites include:
  • Rain Dance Massage ($140): Integrating body, mind and spirit, this ceremonial 60-minute massage uses Amara’s signature oils of lavender, rosemary, and sage which are luxuriously dropped down your spine. Ease into this harmonious dance as sprinkles of lavender oil both help to relax muscles and address fatigue. Rosemary oil trickles down next in this powerful service for deeper clearing and healing effects. Purifying and grounding qualities of sage are then delivered along with a rhythmic movement dancing you into tranquility. Conclude with a warm oil scalp massage.
  • Winds of Change Massage ($190): Native rattles, smudging with sage, crystals and specially crafted oils, combined with compassionate healing hands, reconnects your being to your spirit during a 90-minute massage. Amara’s gifted healers use energy work, balance your chakras and connect you to ancient healing rituals. The wind of a feather sweeps away tension. This complete service includes a relaxing massage.
  • Moon Chasing Sun Facial ($190): This 90 minute ritual will take you deeper into a state of bliss. Begin with an aroma inhalation of your choosing, body compressions, and warm towels. This customized skin treatment includes a choreographed facial massage using cool and warm stones simultaneously to promote the purging of toxins and reduce swelling, while the anti-oxidant mask is fighting free-radicals, experience a highly concentrated scalp massage. Tension melts and your skin is left glowing.
  • Soleful Traveler ($90): This 90 minute treatment is designed to revitalize your body and soles. Begin with a heated herbal neck wrap. A Sedona mud mask detoxifies your lower legs and vanilla scented sugar-scrub refreshes your feet. Enjoy a hot stone massage using a luxurious renewing body cream and finish with our vegan gel alternative quick dry polish. Pamper.

3 Ways to Wear Red Lips This Valentine’s Day
categories: health and beauty, Tips and Advice

Arizona based international makeup artist and style maven Corinna B takes your Valentine’s Day lip to a whole new level with her Red Lips for Valentine’s Day advice. Trust in Corinna B. She’ll show even the most timid lip color wearer how to pull off sexy and (sometimes) bold red.

Valentine’s Day is best served with a bold red lip, but if you don’t normally wear red the mere thought of that can be overwhelming! If a red lip seems scary, or feels like too much work, here are 3 easy ways to slip into a rouged moue.

1. Ease your way in to red by lightly coloring your lip with a red lipliner, then adding a clear gloss.

2. Want something a little more substantial but still keeping it muted? Shape your lip with a red liner then pat a soft red lipstick on with your finger. You can control the intensity by tapping on a little more or a little less depending on your mood.

3. Feeling a little more emboldened? Try out a velvety matte red lip. Matte is the easiest way to wear red as it doesn’t move or bleed and stays on your lip rather than your glass. Or your man.

Valentine’s Day Lip Love with Corinna B
categories: health and beauty, Tips and Advice

Today’s delicious blog post is brought to you by the lovely and talented Corinna B, make-up artist extraordinaire. She always has the best makeup tips, product insider info, and sexy style insights so it’s only fitting that she would tell us how to make out Valentine’s Day lips perfect. Enjoy!

Valentine’s Day – the official holiday of smooching – is nearly here, so it’s time to think about your luscious lip plan. We are giving you 3 lip options combined with a little color theory class, breaking down some color options for those of you with a cool complexion and those of you with warm undertones. Read on and pucker up!

Date night lip option number one is for those of you who don’t want to do a big lip, but feel like more than just chapstick. Try using a lipliner to shape your kisser, and top it off with a colored lip gloss. Icy and pink glosses look fabulous on girls with a cool toned complexion, while soft peachy tones are beautiful on a warm toned girl.

Date night lip option number two is all about your pink game. We moved into a full lipstick and gave our warm undertone a lovely coral based pink which compliments the olives and golds in her skin. Our cool undertone model got a fuchsia pink which breathes magic into her complexion and makes her teeth look super white.

Date night lip option number three is a feisty bold red lip – the ultimate Valentine’s lip! Girls with a cool toned complexion look amazing in a blue based red, while warm toned girls are best in a true red or an orange based red. (pictured here in a true red).
