The Royal Palms holds a special place in Madison and Patrick’s hearts- their first date (a blind date set up by Patrick’s mom) took place at the iconic resort so there was no question where they would say I Do. They even had their first look at the very spot where they met. So sweet!

The wedding is filled with gorgeous details, the black, white, and gold color palette is classic with a modern edge, and we love how Madison and Patrick look at each other. The adoration between them is evident. You’re going to love the black and white striped touches at the reception as well as the sweetest candy table…can you tell we’re crushing on this romantic Arizona wedding?

Madison’s Watters gown from Mariee Bridal was so gorgeous! She tells us how she found it: …There were dresses I liked but I had a picture I found a while back of a dress that I was in love with. My mom, dad and I went to Mariee bridal and tried on a few gowns. I knew I loved the Watters dress that I picked but only for the skirt of it. My mom had the amazing suggestion to pair it with the lace jacket and belt. It was magical when it all came together and was EXACTLY what I had envisioned…. No, It was even better!

You had a first look- was that an easy decision to make or was there some back and forth about doing one?

Patrick and I had our very first date at the Royal Palms. It was a blind date in fact. The idea to have a first look at the very same spot where we first met was never up for negotiation! We knew from the start that we wanted to do it. I am pretty emotional and I knew if I saw him before the wedding I would have it together a bit more during the ceremony. I am so so so glad we did a first look!!

The bridesmaid dresses are from Rent the Runway. Don’t know what that is? Prepare yourself…

Favorite Moments

Madison: There are so many! I loved the moments with my mom and dad before the ceremony, I loved seeing my little sister and her boyfriend dance they have some killer moves, I loved kissing my husband for the first time, I loved when everyone left the ballroom and went to get their sparklers and form the tunnel. Patrick, the DJ and I were the only ones left in the room and we busted out some awesome dance moves and were spinning around the dance floor! It was like nothing outside of that dance floor existed and I was so happy I felt like I was going to burst! Such an insane feeling!!

Patrick: …on the dance floor when everyone left to do the sparkler exit and the first look when I got to see my beautiful (soon to be) wife for the first time!  I loved being able to spend a few moments just wrapped up in her arms, holding my wife and enjoying all the love that day!

The crisp white flowers mixed with greenery are quite feminine and pretty; those black and white stripes that make an occasional appearance are perfection!

We always love sweetheart tables because they give the couple the very best view of their loved ones plus some time to enjoy each other; the gold rimmed votive holders add just the right touch of sparkle. You would never guess it (because everything is so perfect and professional looking) but Madison’s mom worked for months to make most of the decorations herself. Moms are so great!

Madison says they had a huge sparkler exit and loved running through it so much that they took more than one pass at it!

Any surprises or things you would change?

No surprises. I would have not let last minute details get to me the morning of the wedding. I was so focused on the details I didn’t fully sit back and relax that morning. I should have… I guess that’s really not me though.  We were delightfully surprised to find out that the videographer had used a drone to capture aerial footage of the venue before the ceremony started!  This footage made a great addition to the wedding video!

Madison and Patrick, congratulations and thank you for sharing your day with us!

Wedding Inspiration: When The South Meets The Southwest
categories: cakes and sweets, destination weddings and honeymoons, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration

We live in the desert. There’s no getting around that but why would you want to? Arizona has some of the most striking landscapes in the world- our landmark mountains that stand tall among rugged desert, intriguing plants and character-filled cacti make for wedding loveliness…it’s no wonder that so many couples seek out Arizona for destination weddings!

One couple that was inspired by our desert surround is Ginny and Johnathan, who hail from the South. They wanted a destination wedding where their guests could enjoy desert life at it’s best- outdoor living surrounded by Arizona’s natural beauty. The color palette of peach, blush, pink and natural hues really pairs perfectly with the setting and Ginny’s bright pink nails? Too cute!

We chatted with the couple’s wedding coordinator Trista Guzman, owner of BTS Event Management, to get some insight for how their South Meets Southwest wedding came to be. Trista and her team were involved in every bit of making the bride’s vision for her wedding come to fruition.

What was the couple’s vision and/or inspiration for their wedding day decor?
The couple is from the south so they wanted to have a South meets Southwest inspiration carried throughout. In the bride’s bouquet she had succulents to represent the south and sweet-grass roses to represent the south. The cuisine was a south/southwest fusion with things like catfish tacos. They wanted decor items to be re-used in their landscape at their new home they just purchased in Windgate Ranch (which was why the wedding was held there). This is why the cactus were used in the centerpieces and in the ceremony arches. These items were planted in the couple’s backyard after the wedding.

What do you love most about this desert wedding in particular? We love the cactus centerpieces…

The Flower Bar created a true desert-inspired atmosphere with various cactus and succulent floral pieces along with beautiful bright roses to bring some pops of color to the outdoor reception area.

Heart-shaped bread for the couple’s sweetheart table…love it!

This sweets table is so pretty! It features a lovely white wedding cake as well as macarons, another white cake, some delicate desserts and all the fixin’s for s’mores; the sweets were all highlighted by flowers from Flower Bar. We can certainly appreciate the well-thought out design of the entire wedding day.

What are couples planning their weddings in Arizona asking for/looking for in their wedding day design that you’re most excited about?
When planning an Arizona wedding we love incorporating the colors of the Arizona sunset and natural landscape that we sometimes take for granted since we see it everyday. All of our couples that are new to Arizona, or are from out of state, are always so impressed by the cactus, mountains and natural habitat. It is a great reminder of the beautiful state we live in.

Congratulations Ginny and Johnathan and thank you for sharing your wedding day with us. And a special thank you to BTS Event Management for sharing the design details for this lovely “South Meets Southwest” wedding!

Great Find: Livliga Aveq Wine Glasses
categories: favor and gift ideas, health and beauty, trends in catering

We’ve heard of many couples who kick their fitness routines and nutrition goals into high gear almost the instant a date is set for their wedding so when we come across something that can assist with those goals, we share it!

Today’s “Great Find” is from Livliga: …founded in early 2011 in Boulder, Colorado, [Livliga] was conceived out of a personal desire to find an answer to our supersized world surrounding eating and to find a better solution beyond the ugly “diet plate”. Sheila Kemper Dietrich, Livliga Founder and CEO, recognized the need to “right-size” the food environment and set off to develop a suite of everyday products, which included discrete portion control and subtle reminders, for a balanced diet to support a healthy lifestyle.

The Aveq wine glass features artful portion control designs and surely you’ll agree that a set makes for an elegant wedding gift:

What we like so much about the Livliga Aveq wine glasses is that couples can still enjoy entertaining and heck, we all know a glass of wine or two helps with wedding planning stress, right?!

The glasses were designed to make the recommended serving of wine look plentiful to the eye, and therefore satisfying. Here’s how it works:
o Top Line: 6 ounces
o Bulls Eye: 5 ounces
o Bottom Line: 4 ounces

Livliga Aveq wine glasses:
– Are chip resistant and dishwasher safe
– Portion control designs are etched, so they won’t rub off or fade
– A set of four glasses retails for $49.95

The Aveq wine glass is part of a whole suite of right-sized portion control products, including glassware, serveware, and dishware. Discover more (including a cute line for kids) at Livliga.com

Wedding Trend: Naked Wedding Cakes
categories: cakes and sweets, Trends

In general, I like cake (and can really appreciate the beautifully artistic cakes that our Elite Circle bakers create) but if it looks dry, boring, or over-frosted, I can easily resist it. I choose to save my calories for much more “exciting” desserts like a fresh berry pie, a rustic peach tart, or even a really unique cupcake so for me, if a cake doesn’t LOOK good, I can walk away. A lot of that has to do with the frosting (as in, if there’s just too much of it) but I may be in trouble this year- with the exploding trend of Naked wedding cakes, I may not have such iron clad resistance!

Here are some “naked” wedding cakes that would definitely tempt me to dig in:

So maybe you love frosting and wouldn’t consider a naked wedding cake but for those of you in my non-frosting lovin’ camp, can we all give a cheer for naked cakes? I think so!
