Arizona Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Vermilion Events and Design Group/T Weddings and Events
categories: Meet Our Friends, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Resources

Wedding planner David Twigger of Vermilion Events and Design Group/T Weddings and Events is one of those people that you just KNOW is going to make your wedding planning experience better. He has a real passion for coordinating events and event design and is a constant presence in the Arizona wedding community as well. Since we are huge proponents of hiring a wedding planner to help you navigate the wedding planning process and provide expert guidance on your wedding day, we want you to get to know him better!

Where does your inspiration for planning events come from? I have a long and diverse history in the hospitality industry. Everything from hotels to DMC’s to private venues and this intricate combination of experience has fueled my love for creating events. The entire process is what I love. Taking an idea through the conception to design to execution is incredibly exhilarating for me.

What do you think makes your services and/or talents unique to the wedding industry? My diverse background makes me unique. I have planned and executed wedding from every standpoint. As a catering manager at a hotel or resort to running 2 private venues, to owning my own wedding planning and design company. This unique combination of experiences allows me to take my couples safely and productively through the entire process. Knowing what to ask for, what to look for and how to make it happen.

This is David at his own wedding- he and Emmanuel make such a great couple!

What are your strengths as a wedding planner? I have been told I have 2 top strengths. 1 is thinking proactively. That comes from experience. Being able to think of not only what you are working on but being able to think how that piece will affect the next 2 steps down the road allows me to keep my couples happy. The second is the creativity. 7 National design awards show my passion for event design. I take this passion and talent and I direct that back towards my couple. I pride myself on putting the couple’s tastes, hobbies and personalities into their wedding. Each and every wedding that I do has their stamp on it. Making it pretty is nice, but it’s not personable – that is what I do.

What trends in weddings are you looking forward to this year? Trends are “trending” so fast right now, which tells me that wedding couples are taking their weddings back! I love this! A trend can inspire ideas but don’t lose yourself along the way. If I had to pick a couple, the organic  romanticism is refreshing to see. The naked cakes, the romantic dresses, the organic venue locations and settings. It is a step away from the full on rustic and adding a bit of simplicity into it. I am big on colors as well. I am predicting the next color of the year to be a brilliant shade of yellow. Yes Navy is hot right now but I see color next spring and yellow brings warmth, happiness and true beauty.

What do you want couples to know BEFORE they meet with you to get the most out of your initial consultation? I actually have created a “Getting to know you” sheet that I have couples fill out before we meet. It’s simple and fun, with questions like how did you meet, what do you like to do on Sunday afternoons and please describe your fiancé. It also has a couple of questions about the wedding itself. This allows me to really get to know the couple and to find out if they are on the same page about the wedding. You would be surprised how many couples assume they are but they each have different important parts they are focusing on. It’s fun!

What do you think is the key to a fabulous wedding? I honestly think the MOST important part to a fabulous wedding is making sure you enjoy the wedding process. It’s not just about this one day. Some couples spend a year in the planning stage and this is a stressful or hectic process your day will be as well. Slow down, enjoy all the amazing things you get to do for your wedding. (oh and hire a planner!!:-)

Wedding Trends: 2016 Wedding Gowns at Bella Lily Bridal
categories: bridal fashions, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

Last week was New York International Bridal Market (otherwise known as NY Bridal Fashion Week) and we kept an eye on the runways via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We quickly gathered some thoughts on what next year’s brides would be wearing and while we noticed 3 things immediately- lots of skin, floral details, and architecture inspired shapes, we wanted to ask the experts what their impressions of 2016’s wedding gowns were too.

To weigh in on the wedding gown trends for 2016, we asked Bella Lily Bridal owner Brenda Maldonado to share her predictions.

Top Trends for Spring 2016 Wedding Gowns:

Tiered Skirts: Tiered skirts were seen on the runway from several designers. From Hayley Paige to Enaura and Carolina Herrera…tiered skirts continue to be a trend that is on-point. Whether its softly flowing organza or layers and layers of tulle, tiers add texture to a dress as well as giving it a touch of playfulness. These cascading layers will have a floaty effect as a bride walks down the aisle.

Wedding Gowns with Floral Details: Florals were in full bloom on the runway and definitely a Spring 2016 trend. From Monique Lhuillier to Maggie Sottero, intricate floral embroidery and beautiful floral prints make these gowns look like they were created in a lush garden.

Sleeves: Touches of tradition are making their way into bridal fashion by way of sleeves. Sleeves in all lengths were prevalent on the runway. This trend got a modern twist with the use of naked-looking illusion sleeves which allows for a semi-covered look while accents like classic lace, sequins, intricate beading and embroidery added a touch of visual interest.

Wedding Gowns with a Statement Back: No longer an afterthought, the back of the dress is just as important as the front. Designers creating dramatic backs allow a bride to wow her guest both coming and going!!

Amanda and Gavin’s wedding day was a lovely celebration of their adoration for each other and, even more so, a celebration of family. Special touches throughout the day make it extra sweet and the location, Phoenix Art Museum, makes it a bit modern too.

The couple wanted an elegant feel so they chose a black, white and lavender color palette; calla lilies and hydrangeas are the bride’s favorite flowers.

This moment between Gavin and Amanda’s daughter- a secret promise ceremony- is so beautiful and definitely a tear jerker!

The groom wore custom cuff links that had, “Will You Marry Me?” on one and the wedding date on the other

Since Phoenix Art Museum has all kinds of interesting things to look at, Amanda and Gavin kept their decor simple with the linens, flowers and details; the wish tree was also used in Amanda’s sister’s wedding and the couple had an art piece created for them that bore their initials and wedding date.

The happy couple’s final thoughts on their wedding: The day was everything and more that we could have expected, the venue was gorgeous and we had such an amazing time celebrating our love, our families and friends.

Amanda and Gavin, thank you for sharing your wedding with us and congratulations!

Arizona Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Fresh From the Kitchen
categories: cakes and sweets, Meet Our Friends, real weddings, reception ideas, Trends, trends in catering, Wedding Inspiration

I want Noelle Salinas to feed me. Like every day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, sugar (yep, sugar is a meal). But, she’s too busy to dote on my every whim- she’s making culinary yuminess in her kitchen at Fresh From the Kitchen and catering weddings for couples getting married in Arizona! So what is it about this Elite Circle caterer that I love and that you must know?

First and foremost, Fresh From the Kitchen is experienced. Noelle Salinas, the culinary trained sole owner of the company, has operated Fresh From the Kitchen for over 7 years (but of course she’s been sharing her love of food with people since she was young). You’ll also notice that Noelle’s food is approachable. She makes food you’ve eaten, or have at least heard of, then adds her own expert touch, super-fresh ingredients, and beautifully tempting presentation.

We asked the catering pro a few questions about Fresh from the Kitchen

What makes Fresh From the Kitchen a great choice for weddings? Fresh from the Kitchen’s business is about 80% weddings…What this means for our clients is catering weddings is like second nature. Not only is it something we love to do, we’re very good at it. Large or small, venue or private home, second or first marriage, we can take care of you. From execution of rentals, bar service, wedding cake, late night snacks, day after brunch, unique stations, appetizers, and of course fabulous dinner foods, Fresh from the Kitchen takes your vision and creates a seamless wedding experience for you and your guests. Can couples customize their menus? Most of our menus are custom for our couples. This allows our couples the freedom to enjoy what they like on their special day, and stay within their means to have the wedding they want. (Check out some of Fresh From the Kitchen’s sample menus– they sound delicious!)

The assortment of appetizers we’re seeing from Fresh From the Kitchen is huge- they make a wide range of bite-size delights and we kind of want a bite of each and every one!

What is your background in catering and what’s your specialty? For seven years I have been the owner and head chef of Fresh from the Kitchen, but even prior to that my first job was a banquet wedding server. I also free-lanced with other catering companies during college. This really allowed me to see the business ins and outs and work in the business before making it my career choice too. It is my passion and love! My specialty is custom creations. I like challenging myself and creating new flavors. My kitchen does not operate with a lot of recipes. This is a unique feature to my company, and perhaps my company alone. I feel when you cook with your senses, and you love what you do, having a standardized recipe creates standardized food. Thus, why use a recipe when I know how to cook the item by touch and taste? At Fresh from the Kitchen, cooking is from the heart not from a piece of paper. Each dish is delicious for this reason.

And here’s why I want Noelle to feed me sugar…

What do you see couples doing with their menus that you are really loving right now? Couples want unique stations and family style meals. It is all about not having boring wedding food, but unique and delicious food. They want wines and spirits, family recipes, and other cultures reflected in the dishes that they serve their guest. I love this trend! It allows for a lot of creativity and unique experiences for my clients.

If you could plan your dream wedding menu, what would it be? I loved themed events. I have a desire to a Great Gatsby themed event or wedding because of the opulence! So, the dream menu for such an event would consist of live stations for cocktail hour, and plated service for dinner. Dessert would of course be a lavish dessert table with petite French pastries, wedding cakes of several different sizes, and hand crafted truffles. Additionally, items like truffle oil, lobster, champagne, and the like, would be a huge component of the meal too. I love fancy events and over the top creations, so I have yet to do a Great Gatsby theme, and can not wait until I do!

Fresh From the Kitchen can make your wedding cake too!

Fresh from the Kitchen catering is a company driven by one woman’s passion for delivering the best food, service and experiences. Emphasis on natural, high quality ingredients, ‘a taste of perfection!’ is the company motto and is the ideology behind the passion. Fresh from the Kitchen offers full service catering for weddings, social or corporate events, and celebrates diversity, with hard working employees from all different backgrounds.

You can be just as tempted as I am to have Noelle Salinas cook for you by checking out the Fresh From the Kitchen website and Facebook page. Or just call to Noelle to set up a consultation: (602) 694 1197!

Wedding Inspiration: Wildflower Linen’s Lake Como Collection
categories: floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

With good reason, Fall is one of our very favorite times of the year here in Arizona. We see temperatures cool off to the enviable 80’s, we get to embrace the Fall harvest (yes, that happens here) and of course we enjoy all the events that Fall is known for. But mostly, we have a front row seat to the exhilarating rush of Arizona wedding season. It’s quite spectacular the way the wedding industry sort of comes out of hiding after the searing summer heat. Weddings are in full swing in Arizona, vendors are on their game, and we get to sit back and watch the show.

We also love Fall for the change in wedding color palettes. We recently spotted Wildflower Linens newest collection- Lake Como– and knew you would want to see it for yourselves. Here are the colors they added to their already extensive linen collection:

Wildflower Linen founder Youngsong Martin traveled to Europe this summer and was taken with the beauty of Lake Como, Italy. It’s not hard to see why (read more about her trip to Europe here).

The scenery made such an impression that she used Lake Como as her inspiration for the new collection, hence the name “Lake Como”. This table, as seen on Wildflower Linen’s “Fall In Love with Lake Como” blog, is just the beginning for these new linens.

If you’re getting married this Fall, you may already have a color scheme chosen but if you haven’t chosen your linens yet, you can still add them to your reception decor. They’ll add that perfect touch of something special to your wedding!

When you have two simple but important goals for your wedding day like Jessica and Jason did, you know it’s going to be a good day. The couple wanted to A. get married and B. make sure everyone had fun. Done and done!

Proving that Fall weddings don’t have to include traditional fall colors, the couple’s blue and metallic color palette was paired with bright pops of color- we really like how the colors add a fun cheery vibe to the day.

We’re pretty much in love with Jessica’s bouquet- Brady’s Floral Gallery used succulents, eryngium and pin cushion protea along with peonies and roses to make it a stand out

Favorite moment: …our ceremony was my favorite moment of the day. Even though it was half an hour long, it felt like it only lasted five minutes, and it feels like a singular moment. It was so personalized and reflected our values so well; I couldn’t imagine a better way to start our marriage. It is so special to be able to think back on that time and know we started our marriage surrounded by people we love, while hearing and saying words that meant so much. I think the best way I can describe this, is by giving you the vows we repeated to one another. They exemplify the respect, love, friendship, and everything else we put foremost in our relationship.

“You are my lover and my teacher,
You are my model and my accomplice,
You are my best friend.
I will love you, hold you and honor you,
I will respect you, encourage you and cherish you,
In health and sickness,
Through sorrow and success,
For all the days of my life.”

Making it theirs: We had so many fun touches throughout the day too. We wanted to make sure the day reflected our personalities, and that everyone had a great time. Beer burros, corn hole, and giant connect four helped us get the message across that we were there to have fun! Having some games available made sure that even if people didn’t want to dance they still had something to do and had fun. We still have people tell us how much fun they had at our wedding, so I think we were successful!

Sparkly linens, copper chargers, bright blue details like the table numbers and menus, and vibrant floral pieces made the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass’s large ballroom inviting and celebratory

Any surprises or things you would change? There is honestly not a single thing I would change. The day couldn’t have gone any better, and unless there is something I’m not aware of, everything went exactly as it should have gone. It probably would have been just as perfect, but by the time the rehearsal started the day before I decided that it was time to relax and let everything unfold. I had spent months preparing and organizing, so I figured at that point there was nothing else I could do and things would go according to plan or not. Thankfully, everything went as planned and any small kinks that happened just weren’t a big deal. We kept our focus on the reasons we were getting married, and making sure everyone celebrating with us could take part in our joy, which led to the perfect day from start to finish.
