Today’s beautiful and romantic blue desert wedding shares the wedding day of Alicia and Jeff at Desert Botanical Garden. It’s clear why we wanted to share their wedding- the soft blue colors are a bit unique for desert weddings and we’re kind of dying over their alternative color choice! Plus, the couple kept their love for each other at the heart of everything they planned for their day and we pretty much adore that!

Alicia tells us how she chose her color palette: I went through several ideas for the colors, especially thinking about what would look best in a setting as unique as the DBG.  My maid of honor showed me the gorgeous blue color I eventually picked for the bridesmaid dresses, and the rest fell into place.

Romantic Blue Desert Wedding Flowers: Bouquets containing blue thistle, white ranunculus and greenery popped perfectly against the blue bridesmaid dresses

The bride described her wedding day as romantic, joyful, magical…we couldn’t agree more. Alicia’s nieces were the flower girls and they were absolutely adorable!

Groom Jeff is known for his crazy sock collection so of course he had his guys wear their own crazy socks on the wedding day!

Romantic Blue Desert Wedding Favorite Moment: Jeff and I both agree our favorite moment was the first look, which is probably what every couple says. But it’s true! There are so many nerves throughout the day but once you finally get to see each other, all the anxiety melts away to excitement to finally say your vows and spend your first evening together as husband and wife with your friends and family!

Isn’t this a gorgeous and private spot for a first look? Desert Botanical Garden is filled with perfect locations for photos.

Romantic Blue Desert Wedding Ceremony: Alicia and Jeff’s wedding ceremony took place at the amphitheater which is a beautiful location in the Garden; the bride and groom are framed by mesquite trees and due to the tiered theater style seating, all guests have a great view of the couple as they exchange vows.

It was also important to include our family in our wedding. My brother, Nate, officiated the ceremony, with all our siblings and their spouses in our wedding party. The flower girls were my nieces, and they stole the show in their fairy tale dresses.

Husband and wife- yay!

Romantic Blue Desert Wedding Reception: The reception began with cocktail hour at Eliot Patio and proceeded into dinner and dancing at Ullman Terrace; tables were dressed with grey linens and included soft blue napkins and sweet centerpieces that featured romantic flowers, candles, greenery, and succulents.

Jeff and I spent Valentine’s Day 2015 in Paris not long after we started dating. One of the many things sweethearts do in that very romantic city is to add a lock to the Ponts des Arts Bridge with your initials on it and throw the key in the Seine River. We have a photo of our lock in our home, and we knew we wanted to incorporate the lock and key theme into our big day. Our invitations, polaroid guest photo book, flower girls’ necklaces and favors all featured the theme from that special time in Paris.

Ullman Terrace is a popular spot for wedding receptions at DBG due to it’s scenic view (the Garden’s butte makes a stunning backdrop); the spacious outdoor tiered patio is surrounded by soft petal reflective lights and up-lit saguaros. For a couple who wants to celebrate their marriage and show off the best of our desert, this is certainly the place to do it!

We asked the couple if there were any surprises or things they would change about their day. Here’s what they said:  If only time could slow down!  The day went so fast! {We were} honestly surprised by how much we relied on our amazing wedding planners…if someone says you don’t need a wedding planner, they are wrong!

Should You Hire a Videographer for Your Wedding?
categories: videography, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Resources

You probably saw this coming but for the record, we have a firm answer to the question: should you hire a videographer for your wedding? Clearly the answer is YES!!! We went straight to the experts at Something New Media Weddings to get you the insight you need into this wedding planning decision.

In a recent blog post, Something New Media lists 5 reasons why you should hire a videographer. Here’s 3 of them:

Relive the Moments You Missed: As a bride or groom, it is impossible to be everywhere on your wedding day. There are moments that you’ll miss such as your fiancé getting ready before the ceremony, your guests arriving and sharing their excitement with each other or your grandfather wiping a tear from his face during the ceremony…

Hearing Your Vows: …While photos do a fantastic job of capturing the emotion of the day, your wedding film will allow you to hear the personal vows that you exchange with your fiancé, the tone in your voice and the laughter of the audience.

Slow Down Time: …your wedding film will be able to take you back in time and re-experience the butterflies, excitement, love and all around happiness of your wedding day.

We’re not exactly sure why hiring a videographer/cinematographer continues to be an optional wedding vendor in couples’ minds as they plan their weddings but we hope you hear our pleas and take them to heart…you MUST consider a videographer/cinematographer an essential wedding vendor!

Wedding Registry Kitchen Gadgets
categories: favor and gift ideas

Today we’re mixing practical with fun as we delve into some new wedding registry kitchen gadgets that we’ve been introduced to recently. Your wedding registry is an opportunity to tell your guests exactly what you need but also what you want. If you want cool kitchen stuff, this is the time to ask for it!

The first of our wedding registry kitchen gadgets is the new and very sleek Soda Stream Source (it received a 2016 BRIDES Registry Award as one of the top 50 products that every couple should include on their registry). We personally love sparkling water- it can be perked up with citrus and is a refreshing low calorie cocktail mixer- so this is a given since not only will you love the actual product it makes but the design is pretty hip.

Another gadget we think a newlywed couples should add to their wedding registry is the Viking Pressure Cooker. You know pressure cookers are the hottest things these days, right (no pun intended!)? This one is a sleek, functional, and can cut cooking time by more than half. The Pressure cooker opens and closes with the turn of a knob, can be used on any cooking surface, and helps save time and energy by reducing cooking time by half or more. The Cooker is easy to use and is made of stainless steel. It also is complete with stay-cool handles so you don’t burn your hands while handling.

Are you or your fiance a fan of the Food Network show Chopped? If so, the Chopped 7” Champion would be a fun addition to your wedding registry kitchen gadgets list! It can chop up foods to help make food prep a snap. The cleaver features a durable high-carbon stainless steel blade, sturdy full-tang construction and a triple-rivet ABS handle. It’s perfect for chopping through meats, fish, soft bones and sinew, and even fruits and vegetables.

And finally, you need pots and pans so you might as well register for a set that brings some color into your kitchen! In the era of minimalism, people are always looking to de-clutter and save space and a kitchenware set from AllRecipes is perfect for couples looking to stock their kitchen with essentials without taking up a ton of space. The set is versatile; the saucepans can be used together as a double boiler for velvety chocolate or individually and each piece stacks for easy storage.
