There is probably no better example of how to infuse meaning into your wedding day than Amanda and Chris’s Real Arizona Wedding. Almost every detail from their wedding day had a deeper significance:
-The Bells of Ireland in the bride’s bouquet and centerpieces are a nod to the couple’s Irish heritage
-The Pastor is a longtime family friend of the groom’s family and former worship leader at the bride’s family church
-Guests signed magnum wine bottles during cocktail hour from DeLorimier Winery which was founded by the surgeon who saved Chris’ life as an infant
-The escort card table was placed atop wine crates purchased by the couple during a Sonoma Valley vacation
-Pictures of the bride and groom at various vacation spots around the country served as table names
-The wedding photographer, Mike Olbinski, took the couple’s very first picture together at the wedding of Amanda’s matron of honor, where Amanda and Chris first met (that picture was the escort picture for the couple’s sweetheart table)
-Guests enjoyed a late night snack of the groom’s favorite breakfast burritos with hot sauce and a guacamole bar (a surprise to the groom ).
And the icing on the cake? Placed alongside the wedding cake were black and white photos from the weddings of prior generations- a beautiful way to honor both Amanda and Chris’ families.
I don’t know if there’s ever been a bride as in love with her wedding dress as Amanda: I have been a long time viewer of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress and even took a picture outside of Kleinfeld’s. I knew I wanted something classy, stunning, and elegant- like Grace Kelly meets Kate Middleton. With magazine clippings in hand, my mom and I set foot in the first and only bridal salon, Schaffer’s. I tried on about nine or ten before trying on THE DRESS. As soon as I put “her” on, I knew I was ready to say YES! Both my mom and I were in tears. The bridal consultant added a veil to the dress to help me make my decision. Before I knew it, I was on the phone to my dad telling him I had found my dress. He was shocked! Chris along with my parents know that I take time to make decisions. Not this decision. I was sold on day one!
[The] gown was an ivory Pronovias dress with lace detailing and a sheer neckline that buttoned down the back…I loved spinning in the dress. One of my favorite photos is at the Phoenix Country Club spinning in circles watching my dress and veil pick up in the breeze. After the wedding, I remember starring at myself in the mirror of our Honeymoon Suite not wanting to take the dress off! I loved my dress and look forward to using parts of “her” to create Christening dresses for our future babies!
The reception was yet another opportunity for Amanda and Chris to customize their wedding day: We met at a wedding and had been to about six weddings before our wedding, and dancing the night away was always a high priority. We envisioned our guests dancing all night and rarely spending any time at the table…instead of our bridal party being introduced and us following, we had our bridal party get everyone out on the dance floor and dancing…as soon as everyone was dancing, we were introduced and joined our guests dancing to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. It was a great way capture the mood and vision of our wedding reception!
A classic color palette of blue, ivory and silver made was modern with striped table runners and tall centerpieces featuring white and green hydrangeas, and Bells of Ireland with white rose accents; the cake was infused with almond and lemon curd, and had raspberries and a butter cream icing.
What is your favorite memory from the day?
Amanda: If I have to think of just a few, I would start with my future brother in law Michael delivering a special verse to me from Chris (Philippians 4:7-8) on anxiety. Reading this verse along with one of my bridesmaids Tara praying over me in the ready room at Brophy before walking down the aisle, really brought me peace. I had both of my parents walk me down the aisle, which was just perfect. I’ll always remember waiting in the hallways of the chapel with my dad thanking him for blessing us with a perfect wedding while we waited for my mom to return from lighting the unity candle. When we started walking the aisle, my mom whispered to me to just focus on Chris at the end of the aisle. Seeing his smiling face gazing in my direction was pure bliss!
Chris: I choked up once that day. As I stood between my parents, locked arm and arm with them, just as we were to enter through the doors leading down the aisle to the alter, I again remembered how fortunate I was to be marrying this woman before God and our gathered guests.
Congratulations Amanda and Chris and THANK YOU for sharing your wedding day with us!
