Sara and Eric’s Modern Classic Arizona Engagement Photos
categories: Engagement, photography

“Engagement season” just wrapped up and since we’re headed towards Valentine’s Day, which can also be a big day for marriage proposals, we think Sara and Eric’s Arizona engagement photos are perfectly timed. What do we especially love about this session from Elite Circle photographer Eyes 2 See Photography? Besides the gorgeous pictures themselves, we really like the couple’s modern classic style and the 2 distinct locations for the engagement photos- Sara and Eric live in New York but returned to the desert for their engagement photos because Sara grew up in Arizona and has an appreciation for the desert scenery.

The couple began their session at the Arizona Science Center where the architectural angles and textures of the buildings create a cool urban vibe

The proposal: We had a trip planned to Jamaica and Eric wanted to propose ahead of time, using the trip as an engagement celebration. He planned an elaborate night out in NYC and wanted to propose in front of an iconic NYC landmark. I broke my ring finger the day of the planned proposal and Eric had to improvise. He brought the ring with him to Jamaica a few days later and proposed under a beautiful gazebo on the water on our first night in Jamaica. Needless to say, we still got to celebrate on the trip.

Eyes 2 See Photography also captured some of that golden Arizona sunlight- now were feeling all cozy!

Ideal date night: We love going for dinner and drinks at a restaurant we’ve never tried before.

Favorite things: We love that we make each other laugh. Sara loves Eric’s kindness and sincerity and Eric loves Sara’s tenacity and warmth.

The location for Sara and Eric’s engagement photos then took a turn to South Mountain- the largest municipal park in the United States and one of the largest urban parks in North America.

Engaged couples love this location for their engagement photos because the desert landscape is unique (sometimes you’ll cross paths with a rattlesnake or gila monster!), the views are breathtaking, and there are quite a few unique buildings to explore. The rustic slab stone buildings provide an excellent juxtaposition for engagement photos (the structures are the result of the government’s efforts to put Americans back to work during the Depression).

What are you looking forward to most at your wedding? That moment when we first see each other. We plan on doing a first look, so we are excited that we will have some time alone to cherish that special moment together and then join our friends and family for the ceremony.

Why Eyes 2 See Photography for your engagement photos? They are so talented! Their work is the perfect mix of traditional and artsy, as evidenced by our amazing engagement pictures. And Nicole is so friendly it’s hard not to like her!

Engaged: Samantha and Austin’s Arizona State University Engagement Session
categories: Engagement, Wedding Inspiration

Let’s just get the obvious out of the way: Samantha and Austin are CUTE. Soooo cute. Like, they have great style, their hair is perfect, & they can work the camera cute. The fact that they’re ASU alumni who chose to return to the place where they met for their engagement session makes us love them even more. Enjoy this sweet love story and tour of ASU’s campus!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_engagement_April Maura Photography_Arizona State University_engagement photos (1) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_engagement_April Maura Photography_Arizona State University_engagement photos (2)

How they met: The couple met their Sophomore year at Arizona State University through a mutual friend. They all went out one night but Austin’s shyness ALMOST led Samantha to start dating his friend. What’s really sweet is that Austin thought he was flirting with Samantha that evening! Not too long after that first meeting though, Samantha and Austin’s stars aligned and they started dating.

Ideal date night: Our ideal date would obviously be a Sun Devil football game, followed by dinner at any place with great calamari or spinach and artichoke dip. 🙂

Austin and Samantha fit together perfectly and you can tell in their photos- they’re so easy going with each other and aren’t at all concerned about the camera.

The Proposal: Samantha was going with Austin to what she thought was a surprise party for Austin’s aunt at a resort in Laguna Beach but it turned out to be their engagement party! She recalls: Austin and I showed up “early” and decided to walk around the resort. Austin had been to the resort before so he wanted to show me a beautiful area. When we sat down at a bench with an amazing ocean view at the end of the resort grounds, we chatted for a while about nothing in particular. Austin then told me that he loved me and that I was his best friend. It was sweet but not unusual so our conversation continued. After he said it TWO MORE TIMES, he finally stood up and got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried hysterically and said “what?!” over and over before finally saying yes. He surprised me again by revealing that both of our families and closest friends were there to celebrate with us.

Favorite things:

Samantha’s favorite thing about Austin is his sense of humor and laid back, positive attitude. He makes even the most menial tasks fun and exciting.

Austin’s favorite thing about Samantha is her sense of humor and how she can always make him laugh. She knows how to cheer him up no matter the situation.

Not only did Austin and Samantha have some nicer outfits planned for their engagement photos, they also brought a Sun Devils pitchfork prop and ASU t-shirts to the shoot. School pride always makes for fun photos!

Palm Walk is an iconic place on the ASU campus- it runs right through the center of everything and the towering palm trees make it a favorite spot for photos.

Engaged in Arizona: Kayla and Christopher’s Destination Engagement Session
categories: Engagement, photography, Sedona

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_wedding photographer_engagement session_red rocks_Sedona_Fully Alive Photography (1)

Sedona’s Red Rock Canyon National Park provides the most striking backdrop for weddings and engagements and Kayla and Christopher’s destination session, photographed by Elite Circle photographer Fully Alive Photography, is no exception. You’re going to love the simplicity of the shoot and deep connection the couple has.

How They Met: Kayla and Christopher attended the same high school but somehow didn’t cross paths until after college. Kayla tells us: The night we met we were both out at the same local bar (both sober we might add) and after making eyes at one another (or at least Chris thought so) Chris approached me to reintroduce himself as if we were old friends. We hit it off by talking about kitchen design as Chris was remodeling his kitchen and I just happened to be a kitchen designer. When Chris asked me for my business card and I didn’t have any he “smoothly” had me make him a personal one on a sugar packet which we still have framed in our bedroom today.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_wedding photographer_engagement session_red rocks_Sedona_Fully Alive Photography (2) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_wedding photographer_engagement session_red rocks_Sedona_Fully Alive Photography (3)

Favorite Things:

Kayla: My favorite thing about Christopher is how strong of a faith he has. Ever since we started dating, we have read daily devotional together. I love that he can laugh at himself and be silly. But what I love most is his passion. His passion for the people he loves is inspiring.

Chris: To pick just one thing I love about Kay is a difficult task, but if I had to choose just one it would be the way that she loves. Kayla is just a people person in so many ways. People are drawn to her and she has true love for them. Whether it’s the awkward person in the room or her family who for her is second to none she just loves them. Kayla has no idea how beautiful she is but when you add that with her fervent love for others she is the entire package.

The white dress Kayla is wearing was sewn by her grandmother! Kayla explains: The weeks leading up to the engagement shoot, I was looking for an outfit and fell in love with a white dress WITH a train. So I made up my mind then that I had to find one. However, not being able to find anything, I asked my grandma if she could pull something together in less than a week!! After not sewing anything for 30 years, she made the most beautiful dress. The best part was it enabled us to spend time together in the craziness of my wedding planning life. I am so appreciative and thankful for my Grandma’s talent, but more than anything I’m thankful for her love and support.

How did you choose Fully Alive Photography? Tracy is one of Kayla’s cousin’s best friends and while attending college at Illinois State University she spent a little over a year nannying for Tracy’s son. We were already familiar with the quality of Tracy’s work and so the only question was how we could coordinate the location of the shoot with us being in Illinois and Tracy in Arizona. When the idea was brought up about us meeting Tracy out west we jumped at it and couldn’t be happier with our decision. The best thing about Tracy and Fully-Alive is she truly makes you feel like the most beautiful people in the world while she works with you and her talent with her photography makes you almost start to believe her!

Why Sedona? Umm… mountains?! What’s not to like? Where we are from in southern Illinois there is nothing but vast planes running in every direction you look. We wanted something different that stood out for our photos but would also create an awesome memory at the same time. Our shoot was so amazing and more fun than we could have ever imagined taking photos could be.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_wedding photographer_engagement session_red rocks_Sedona_Fully Alive Photography (9) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_wedding photographer_engagement session_red rocks_Sedona_Fully Alive Photography (10)

Ideal Date Night: We are both from design backgrounds, Chris studied architecture and Kayla interior design, and we truly love designing together. We recently purchased our first home together and although it didn’t need much work we have had an amazing time bringing our style into each room. It takes a lot of patience and a ton of trial and error but we wouldn’t have it any other way. So our ideal date would be having an amazing dinner out at any number of Italian Restaurants in St. Louis and then shopping for furnishing for our house (ideally on an unlimited budget;)) and bringing them back home and seeing what works best and then carrying our conversation on for hours about the new ideas we have come up with based on new pieces we have found. If we could mix in some mini-golf we always love that too to keep up our competitive edge!

This engagement session proves you don’t have to do anything over the top in your photos to capture the true spirit of who you are as a couple. Congratulations Kayla and Christopher and thank you for sharing your engagement with us!

Engaged: Lacey and Jonathan’s Engagement Session In Sedona
categories: Engagement

Lacey and Jonathan couldn’t be more photogenic- even in their moments of laughter (which can be a photographic challenge for many couples) they look adorable – and their chosen location makes their Sedona engagement session even more perfect. Join this cute couple and Elite Circle photographers Holley Photography along West Fork Trail for a lovely little engagement session!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_Holley Photography_Engagement session_Sedona_Lacey adn Jonathan (1) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_Holley Photography_Engagement session_Sedona_Lacey adn Jonathan (2)

How They Met: Even though their paths nearly crossed a few times prior, they eventually met through Facebook in 2011 due to their shared love of soccer and Jonathan’s “trolling” skills- ha ha! Good thing Jonathan invited Lacey to a pick-up game (and thank goodness she accepted).

Favorite Things: Our favorite thing about each other is our share of interests and values like soccer, family, and friendships, while still having completely different individual personalities. We balance each other out while doing the things that we love together.

The Location: Sedona is our favorite place in AZ! We have gone there many times for day hiking trips and getaways. We even considered having our wedding there. We heard about West Fork Trail and went to scout the area a couple of weekends before our session with Holley Photography. We loved the many different scenes on the trail with the mountains, bridge, grassy field, old worn-out house, and the creek in the red rock. It is now a place we can revisit and hike down memory lane forever!

See their complete and utter cuteness, even when caught mid-laugh? Adorable.

The Perfect Date Night: We are extremely busy people so our ideal date night is cooking and eating dinner together then curling up and watching movies with some dessert (normally ice cream).

Sedona provides some unbelievable scenery for photos- the greenery is so lush it makes for lots of “stolen moment” images!

About Holley Photography: Lacey and Jonathan won an engagement session from Holley Photography while attending the Arizona Bridal Show. They quickly became fans during their session: We absolutely love the work that Holley Photography did! Working with Shayne and Des was so natural and they made us enjoy our day so much! We were an even happier couple after our experience with them.

WeKoPa Resort & Conference Center Giveaway Winners!
categories: Engagement, fabulous reception sites, Giveaways and Contests

It sounds cliche but giving always makes us happier than receiving so when we met with Rachel and Deb, our engaged couple who won the WeKoPa Resort & Conference Center giveaway featured in our Winter/Spring 2015 issue, we were completely delighted. What made meeting them even better is that fact that they are gracious and kind people (and they make a wonderful couple as well)!

The photo shoot with Rachel and Deb and Elite Circle photographers DePoy Studios made for a happy afternoon and what we learned about Rachel and Deb’s relationship is the stuff we love to share on the blog. Congratulations Deb and Rachel and thanks for sharing a little of your story with us!

Here’s Rachel and Deb

And here’s what they won:

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_WeKoPa Resort and Conference center_wedding weekend giveaway

What are you most looking forward to at your wedding ?

Deb: Being official in front of our family and friends. I can’t wait to call Rachel my wife.

Rachel: I am looking forward to being surrounded by my family and friends as I tell the world how much I treasure Deb.  I am also looking forward to sharing this with my dad; as the only girl in the family I know we both thought he would never get the experience of walking his daughter down the aisle.  It is hard to know who is more excited about the wedding, Deb, my dad, or me!

So sweet, right? Rachel and Deb met on Match.com and plan to get married exactly 2 years after their first date! Our very own Kristen Butler was the lucky gal to hand over the gift certificate.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding magazine_WeKoPa giveaway_DePoy Studios (2)

Ideal date night:

Deb: Redbox, a bottle of wine and Rachel’s cooking, Rachel is an amazing cook!

Rachel: I would second Deb’s idea.  I also love to take her out on the town, preferably for a great happy hour and catching up on the week and sharing with each other.

Favorite things:
Deb:  The way she is in the world; I am so proud of being by her side. She makes the world a better place, she makes me better!  I can’t wait to marry her.

Rachel: I love Deb’s heart and compassion; she sees the good in everyone and would give you her last dime if you needed it…

Have you ever been to WeKoPa Resort & Conference Center?

Deb: I have driven past it for years. It is really beautiful. I was so touched by the natural feeling and how it embraces the Native American culture!  Rachel realized we could see Four Peaks from WeKoPa, we then learned that WeKoPa means Four Peaks!

Rachel: We are excited to share the experience of going there for the first time together. When we went for the photo shoot you could feel the friendliness of the staff and the beautiful resort.  We are trying to figure out a time to go when we are full of wedding planning!

Congratulations Deb and Rachel- we are so happy for you and wish you wedded bliss!

Great Find: Tribal Hollywood & Scott Kay Wedding Bands
categories: Engagement, favor and gift ideas, Wedding Resources

It seems like men have drastically fewer options than women when it comes to wedding bands so when we were introduced to the new Scott Kay wedding bands designed exclusively for Tribal Hollywood, we were thrilled!

Scott Kay is a leader in advancing the boundaries of design and materials in bridal jewelry. The brand has amazingly unique wedding band designs for men including fashion forward, contemporary, unusual and statement styles. Scott Kay is a brand for a man who wants to express himself.

Tribal Hollywood is a leading online retailer specializing exclusively in men’s jewelry and focuses on unique, bold, contemporary and non-traditional designs for the man who wants to express himself.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding band_grooms_Scott Kay_Tribal Hollywood (1)

At first glance, you probably notice that the rings are downright manly. Like Thor or Jon Snow from Game of Thrones manly. You’ll notice the inside of the bands are engraved with “BioBlue 27” and “SK Cobalt”- this is the material used to make these rings and it’s 4 times stronger than platinum. That’s not to say the bands lack style though. How could they with Scott Kay designing them? The fine details and beautiful textures make the bands just as refined as they are masculine.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding band_grooms_Scott Kay_Tribal Hollywood (4) Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding band_grooms_Scott Kay_Tribal Hollywood (4)

One thing that grabbed our attention immediately were the interesting textures- some of the bands have a stone-hammered texture, some have wedge cut recesses and sleek beveled edges, others have barbed vine patterns and laser etching. The level of creativity is pretty awesome.

The fit between the two companies’ male audiences was immediately apparent at the first meeting, and Scott Kay and Tribal Hollywood shared the same vision for designing and marketing men’s jewelry. Tribal Hollywood is the natural retail extension of the Scott Kay design vision for men.

Personally, the people in the companies hit it off together instantly and have enjoyed building their partnership ever since. They share the same obsessive attention to detail, outstanding and unique customer experiences and service, and follow Scott Kay’s motto of “Never Compromise”.
