Advice from the Pros: Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, health and beauty, Meet Our Friends, Tips and Advice, Wedding Resources

This time of the year in Arizona, with daily temps consistently above 100 degrees, we often dream about getting away (“often” meaning most of our waking hours!). An escape to a cooler locale or even a vacation on a sandy beach fills our daydreams constantly! While we’re daydreaming about a getaway, we naturally think of our brides and grooms who are planning destination weddings and honeymoons, and, because packing for a destination event requires specific products, we think about destination wedding and honeymoon beauty products. To find out what the pros’ must -have beauty products are for destination weddings and honeymoons, we consulted our Elite Circle makeup artists and hair stylists. Here’s the inside scoop on what you need to pack for your destination wedding or honeymoon:

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Product Recommendations for Skincare:

Babydoll Weddings: Moisturizer/Primer – Embryolisse is my favorite because it’s 2 products in 1. It’s an amazing face moisturizer but is also a primer. Using a primer before applying your foundation will ensure even and flawless coverage which is perfect for tropical/humid locations.

Corinna Cooke Makeup/Corinna BTatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. I always travel with this. You can spritz it on during the flight to keep your skin hydrated, you can use it throughout your honeymoon to keep your skin looking luminous and dewy, and if you are somewhere humid you can use it instead of moisturizer. It’s also a great rescue product for skin that has had too much sun/wind/salt water – you name it!

One skincare product we personally recommend is Rescue Skin. The product is designed with travel in mind- both the ultra moisturizer and serum concentrate come in packets so you can carry them on the plane with you. Rescue Skin is designed to bring cutting-edge stem cell technology to every age, gender and skin type. With a single-step, RESCUE provides immediate rejuvenation no matter where life leads you – from days in the sun getting the perfect sun-kissed tan for your wedding or honeymoon to nights on the town and bachelor parties.

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products Recommendations for Hair:

Corinna Cooke Makeup/Corinna BOribe Dry Texture Spray (Travel Size). This product is fabulous because not only can it be used as hairspray, it’s also a dry texture product. After a day at the beach or under a hat you can use it almost like a dry shampoo to get body back into the hair. And it smells divine!

Babydoll WeddingsDry Shampoo – My absolute favorite dry shampoo is from Moroccanoil. They offer a light tone for blondes and a dark tone for brunettes. Been laying on the beach all day? No problem, spray this on your scalp and rub in – you’ll have fresh looking and feeling hair and it provides volume as well!

Hair Donut – make your hair cute for a fancy dinner date or just walking on the beach. Hair donuts are the easiest way to create that full messy bun. There are so many options to be creative.

Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Beauty Products | Makeup Recommendations:
Corinna Cooke Makeup/Corinna BDiorshow Blackout Waterproof Mascara. The best of the best, this mascara builds huge lashes! It doesn’t clump or look tacky, it just gives luxurious lashes that you can swim in.

Babydoll Weddings: Highlighter – To keep your bridal glow, use a highlighter or bronzer with shimmer in it. Apply this to the upper part of your cheek bone, your upper lip under your nose and also the shins of your legs. My favorite to use are the variety of Nars Highlighters.

Waterproof Mascara – Destination weddings and honeymooning tend to involve beach or water activities. Stay looking your best with waterproof mascara. My favorite is a classic – Maybelline Great Lash. I found this to be the very best and you can layer throughout the day to increase thickness for a day to nighttime look.

Of course it’s best to try these products before you take off for your destination event but with these professional recommendations for destination wedding and honeymoon beauty products, we have a feeling you’re going to look and feel beautiful no matter where your plans take you.

Wedding Hair and Makeup Advice from Babydoll Weddings
categories: Grooms, health and beauty, Tips and Advice, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

I begin today with a cautionary tale: I made the critical mistake of hiring an amateur makeup artist for my wedding who actually told me she did not “believe in covering up blemishes because it just draws attention to them”…of course I ended up looking like I did my own makeup. I was shiny the whole day and the eyeshadow colors chosen did not accentuate my eyes (my best feature) at all, and you can bet my blemishes made themselves known.

So, if you want to look and feel beautiful on your wedding day, heed my warning: do not rely on someone who moonlights as a beauty professional! Without question, you want someone who does this full-time, a team who can doll you up exactly as you need to be for a day that focuses on you, whether you want it to or not. Don’t forget, there’s a camera pointed right at you most of the day!

Meet Babydoll Weddings Hair & Makeup– a team of pros who you can trust to make you look and feel your best on your wedding, led by owner and stylist Sabrina:

Wedding Hair and Makeup Advice: What makes Babydoll Weddings Hair & Makeup different?

Teamwork, Education and Professionalism. I have built such an amazing team of people… From the first email or phone call brides make to us, we strive to respond within 24hrs and make sure they have a quote and our contract in hand. As a recent bride myself, my biggest frustration in planning was people getting back to me. Michelle is our Bridal Liaison and her sole job is to make sure communication is happening with each and every bride.

Keeping up with the latest hair and makeup trends in the wedding business is also something we pride ourselves on. We meet once a month and devote 2 hours as a team to practicing, sharing and learning current hair and makeup techniques. You’ll see us travel to California and around the valley to attend hair and makeup shows/expos to make sure we are keeping up with the industry. This ensures our team can deliver any style brides or wedding party members are looking for. We are also able to provide great ideas about trends they may not know about. Having a team of talented stylist ensures we can handle small or large parties.

One of the most important things that sets us apart from other beauty service providers is all of our stylists are licensed cosmetologists or aestheticians.

Wedding Hair and Makeup Advice: What can a bride who lives out of town do to make sure she ends up with a wedding day look she loves (assuming she can’t squeeze in a trial)?

We have many brides in town and out of town that choose not to have a trial. Pictures are the key for us in creating the look that a bride wants to achieve. With magazines and Pinterest there are so many great ways to pick the perfect hair and makeup looks. We ask that brides email us some pictures in advance so we can put them in their folder and their assigned stylist can have a reference.

Wedding Hair and Makeup Advice: What trends in hair do you see for the upcoming Fall wedding season?

For this fall I predict a lot of hair being worn down with curls. Brides are looking for that long sophisticated look with lots of shine so extensions will be a necessary option for many. For those brides wanting their hair up, unlike years past, the artful “messy updo” is on its way out. You’ll see very smooth and very put together updos, keeping with the romantic and sophisticated bride.

For hair accessories, longer veils with smaller hair accents are going to be a big hit. Also, I suggest that all my fall brides find a more fun and flirty hair piece for the reception, something with feathers.

Wedding Hair and Makeup Advice: What advice do you have for a bride who doesn’t wear makeup?

Makeup is a necessity in photos for your special day, especially nowadays with all the High Definition photography. Makeup does not have to consist of a heavy look- using the right techniques in contouring and highlighting someone’s face is the key. The goal is to bring out a bride’s best features and minimize the ones she may not like.

Do you have any services for grooms?

Absolutely. It’s more common for brides to get their makeup done, but men want to look just as good on their wedding day. We offer makeup services for grooms as well as tattoo cover ups. Airbrush makeup is the best for grooms as we can cover that stress pimple and give them an even complexion and they won’t feel like they have any makeup on.

Great Find: Dollup Case Makeup Organizer
categories: favor and gift ideas, health and beauty

We know the struggle is real when it comes to keeping your makeup organized- there’s often a mish- mash of products swimming in your makeup bag or drawer that get overlooked, broken, and ultimately forgotten- so when the Dollup Case Makeup Organizer came to us, we were so excited to see what it was all about.

Basically, this must-have beauty case, which was created by celebrity makeup artist Nikki Hynek, is the easiest way to store your makeup essentials. Plus, it’s pretty! As a bride, the Dollup Case is perfect for your wedding day because you can carry all your touch-up makeup with you wherever your celebration takes you (you’ve got to be camera ready at all times, right?!). And do we think the Dollup Case Makeup Organizer makes the perfect bridesmaid gift too? Oh yes, we absolutely do!

The thoughtful design of this makeup organizer is evident in the details and the fold-down oversized mirror is one of our favorite features- you can see your whole face, not just parts of it, making this an on-the-go wedding day essential.

Erin and Jason’s New Years Eve Wedding wasn’t just about the date- their personal style and their intention behind their wedding location and details make it the best kind of New Year’s Eve wedding you could ask for. Well, and the fact that there was a “club” reception!

Erin explains: Our goal was always to create a enchanted, unforgettable and fun party for our guests. New Year’s brings its own magic including Celebration, Reflection, Renewal and New Beginnings. And we chose this day because we knew without a doubt that our guests would be down to party- we like to party!

We get the feeling that Jason and the dog are best buds, like, for real.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_New Years Eve Wedding_Four Seasons Scottsdale_Mike Olbinski Photography (3)

Erin’s Southwest inspired bouquet was comprised of Veronica, air plants, silver dollar eucalyptus, lotus pods, ostrich feathers, fern curls, statice, and mint; she didn’t want a bouquet that was uniform in structure- instead she wanted it to match her vision of a New Years Eve wedding that was ethereal with a feeling of cohesive chaos.

New Years Eve Wedding Ceremony: The Magic started early when we found out it would be the coldest day of the year in Scottsdale (and maybe even in a decade). We saw rain, fog and eventually snow but that didn’t stop us. We tented the ceremony lawn last minute and included warm hot toddies, heaters and shawls to keep our guests comfortable.

New Years Eve Wedding Cocktails and Dinner: Cocktail hour included Simply Three Trio rocking the Beatles, Coldplay and Soundgarden while dinner had a lot of lush greenery, candlelight and well thought out food stations, each an ode to a city we hold dear: Venice Beach Taqueria, Windy City Sliders, Big Easy Chocolate Bar (no cake, we LOVE CHOCOLATE)!

New Years Eve Wedding Reception & PARTY: What would a New Year’s Eve wedding be without a legit party? After dinner, guests were on the move when we opened the doors to the “Club Millz After Party” which ushered guests down a red carpet towards a bouncer checking ID’s. Think: “Grandma, you don’t look 21”! As a surprise to our guests, we DJ’ed from 11 to midnight, announcing the New Year with those we love surrounding us in celebration!

This crowd knows how to work a photobooth!

As you can tell, Erin and Jason’s New Years Eve wedding was a crazy good time. The party kept jamming until 2AM… guests could sit on plush lounge chairs or get up and dance on the light up (think Saturday night fever) dance floor! We passed out masquerade masks just before mid-night, an ode to the city where we met, New Orleans.
