The Duchess: A Cocktail Truck for Special Events in Arizona
categories: trends in catering, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

We delightfully stumbled upon a fun idea for weddings that we know you’ll love as much as we do: mobile cocktail trucks. We’re not talking food carts that serve beer. Nor are we talking about an ice cream truck that someone thought to mount a margarita machine on. No. Those are not for you, beautiful engaged couples. What we’re talking about is a fancy-schmancy (ish) mobile cocktail truck whose sole purpose is to serve in style and the only one you really need to know about, in Arizona at least, is “The Duchess”. She’s a sexy little champagne colored cocktail truck for special events in Arizona and she’s many things: pretty, fun, a bit sassy, and yes, functional. Want to know more? Read on to hear what co-owner Nicole Brown has to say about this lovely lady!

The Duke Truck is the original mobile cocktail truck and he used to travel between Napa Valley and Arizona as the coolest cocktail truck for special events in Arizona. As you can imagine, that’s quite a trek so The Duke Truck’s owners went to France, found a twin, spiffed her up, and brought her back to Scottsdale. Aren’t we lucky?

Here’s The Duke Truck—The Duke and The Duchess are the same except for their color.

How did you come up with the idea of having a cocktail truck for special events in Arizona and what is your background in bartending/event planning?

My husband and I love entertaining, and we really love wine and cocktails. We were having a party and were looking for a something to make it stand out. We looked at food trucks but didn’t feel like the trucks fit into the decor of the party, and wanted to serve cocktails not tacos. We were looking for something hip and vintage where you could really interact with the truck and people inside… But it didn’t exist. After an incredible journey through the countryside of Burgundy, France, we found an old butcher truck. We named him The Duke. The rest is history!

Are you able to set up at venues (like resorts) that have their own bartending services on site?

Yes. We work with all types of venues. Some require they own the entire staffing for events onsite. In that case we simply rent The Duke as a bar rental, set it up and their staff serves. We are very selective an only do this at high end venues to ensure a seamless experience for the client. Basically if you are in the love with the idea of having our trucks at your wedding we can work with the venue to make that happen!

Can you tell us about your packages for couples who are interested in having a cocktail truck for special events in Arizona?

We offer 3 different packages: Truck rental only, Cocktail Hour (1 staff for 2 hours) & Premium Royal service (Truck + Royal Staff for entire event). Most of the décor seen in our pictures are all part of the truck rental. All of our packages include bistro café lights, barstools, chalkboard, interior plants/décor, champagne bucket, vintage Marshall speaker for music, and our crown marquee sign. We work hand and hand with other vendors to add any décor that fits the design of the wedding, from fresh flowers to handmade cocktail menu signs, our trucks can fit any theme.

When did The Duchess join the Arizona market?

The newest member of our fleet, The Duchess, made her debut this spring 2017, after Shawn and I went on an adventure through Europe to find her. She is the color of champagne, and is the embodiment of Fabulous Sophistication. Our business has grown to the point where we need 1 truck dedicated to each of our 2 markets. The Duke will stay full time in Napa Valley, CA and The Duchess will live in Scottsdale, AZ. Our third truck, The Baron, will be retrofitted this fall 2017 and will travel! All of our trucks are Citroen HY Vans with the same dimensions, custom cabinets, chalkboard, marquee sign, and bistro café lights. The Duke and Duchess both have distinct personalities, however, they all share the vintage look, feel and experience clients are looking for and are guaranteed to make any event unforgettable.

How far in advance should couples plan to book you?

I tell clients to book the minute they are sure they want the truck! We are now booking into the fall of 2018, and on popular dates I sometimes get 10 inquiries. The first to book locks it in…We only have one truck per market so if you want it then book it!

Elite Circle Bridal Shop in Arizona | Laurie’s Bridal and Formal
categories: bridal fashions, Meet Our Friends, Tips and Advice, Wedding Inspiration

You know those people who are considered “whisperers”? They’re the experts who seem to be born to know exactly how to do their job and they do it well every time. Well, Laurie Dickman, owner of Elite Circle bridal shop Laurie’s Bridal and Formal, is a wedding gown whisperer. From the moment you meet Laurie, you feel how passionate she is about wedding gowns and you also sense that you can completely trust her expertise. You’ll trust her to find the gown that will make you feel and look beautiful on your wedding day and you’ll trust her when she pulls a gown to try on that you never would have considered. Laurie will make your wedding gown dreams come true and we want you to know a bit more about her and her beautiful bridal shop in Arizona!

Bridal Shop in Arizona _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Saaty Photography_2

(Photographer: Saaty Photography, Planner & Florist: Simply Beautiful Wedding Event Planning)

What will brides looking for their wedding gowns find at Laurie’s that they won’t find at any other bridal shop in Arizona? They will find a selection of gowns not offered elsewhere or offered with limited distribution.  Brides always tell me that they don’t necessarily want to see the same gowns all over town.

What are your top 3 tips for brides trying on gowns for the first time?

1. Do not come all decked out. Come dressed comfortably and you do not need to come all made up with make up. Be comfortable. You’re going to be getting in and out of dresses.

2. Bring 1-2 (or sometimes 3) trusted people whose opinions you trust and respect.  Sometimes the entourage is a bit overwhelming and can backfire.

3. Bring pictures.  But also, please be realistic—the pictures you see are professional models. Don’t compare yourself or be too hard on yourself if a dress you love doesn’t look the same on you as it does on a professional model.

Can brides customize their gowns at Laurie’s? We do carry one manufacturer, exclusively available in Scottsdale, who offers full customizable gowns.  We also refer out to local and reliable seamstresses who can do amazing modifications to your gown.
What are you seeing brides gravitating towards as far as bridal fashions that you’re loving right now?  Brides are more conscious about what they want to look like and how comfortable they want to be, rather than going for a particular style of gown. We do sell a little bit of everything so I’m confident that a bride coming into the shop will find her perfect wedding gown.

What is your advice to brides who are concerned about being “too trendy” when choosing their gown? My advice is pure and simple and I’ve said it to almost every bride who’s been in my store: You don’t want to look back at your wedding day pictures 20 years from now and think what was I thinking?  Stay true to who you are.  I even heeded my own advice. I just celebrated my 22nd anniversary and posted my wedding picture.  I STILL love my handmade gown and I would wear it all over again!

What do you want brides to know before coming in to try on gowns at your bridal shop in Arizona? Please keep an open mind, be patient and trust that I know what I’m doing. For me, it’s not always about closing the sale, but making that perfect match between bride and gown.

Bridal Shop in Arizona _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Lo Capone Images_Lauries Bridal and Formal
(Photographer: Lo Capone Images)
What else should we know about this very special bridal shop in Arizona? I treat every bride as if she were my friend, daughter or family member.  I really enjoy what I do and want every bride to just have a fun time shopping for her gown.  It shouldn’t be overwhelming or stressful, but the most enjoyable part of this special day.

One more thing…When brides book appointments, we staff accordingly and set time aside especially for them so it’s unfortunate when they can’t make their appointment and don’t notify us. We see a “no-show” as a missed opportunity for another bride who could have found her dress and while we certainly understand that sometimes brides can’t make their appointment, we just ask that they contact the store and let us know so we can re-schedule their appointment and open up that time slot for another bride!

About Laurie: Originally from New York, Laurie’s flair for fashion began in her teenage years, when she started working part time at a high end clothing and dress boutique in her local mall. In the very early 1990’s, she started working for a leading bridal dress and headpiece manufacturer. Laurie worked her way up and was soon traveling all over the United States as a Trunk Show Coordinator, training store owners and their employees how to properly sell wedding gowns, to educate their customers and to help listen to what the consumer wanted and bring that back to the company. She also helped design bridal headpieces.

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | Tempe Mission Palms
categories: fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, photography, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Tempe Mission Palms_Fully Alive Photography

Wedding planning doesn’t always begin with a theme but often one emerges as you choose your colors, stationery, textures and venue (that’s the fun part after all!) and if you like the idea of your wedding being a bright and happy affair in a location that offers both warm intimacy and an energetic central location, this bright garden wedding inspiration shoot at Tempe Mission Palms is exactly what you’re looking for.

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration: At the heart of this photo shoot is this idea: you don’t necessarily need all the fluff. By upgrading a few of the key elements such as furniture, linen, chairs and flowers, the space can easily be transformed and couples can have the one of a kind and inspirational wedding. We completely agree because many times, couples think that without a huge budget, they can’t have a stand-out wedding but that just isn’t true. A few well-chosen pieces will elevate your wedding design to something memorable and super pretty!

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration: The Flowers: The bride’s bouquet is a garden inspired masterpiece that includes Pink Floyd roses, coral charm peonies, orange ranunculus, red-orange pincushion protea, yellow tulips, bright orange spray roses, and green trick dianthus plus about 10 other flowers!

One other detail that caught our eye right away was the bride’s nails—they’re bridal-ish and so fun (P.S. they’re from Jamberry)!

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Tempe Mission Palms_Fully Alive Photography

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Ceremony: The Pool Terrace at Tempe Mission Palms has an urban backdrop that includes downtown Tempe, the historic Hayden Flower Mill, and the iconic “A” Mountain. Nowhere else in Arizona do you get such a unique view!

The ceremony was set with a beautifully dressed table, loads of bright flowers, and a moss covered ampersand (the “&” symbol) on the mantle above. A green moss sheet was wrapped around the base of the fireplace (love this so much!) while succulent terrariums and gold-rimmed candle holders finished the look.

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Look: Groom Johnny wore a custom bow tie and slim fit tan tuxedo while Savannah, the bride, wore a gorgeous bridal gown provided by Laurie’s Bridal (it’s a Private Label Designer dress). She completed her look with a delicate accent flower piece in her hair which went perfectly with the bright garden wedding theme.

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Lounge: The hotel’s mission style architecture, hanging ivy, and statuesque fireplace in the Courtyard Patio create a comfy and chic sitting area. A lounge guests will flock to was created by using a combination of vintage, retro, and modernly elegant furniture pieces—we especially love the blue fabrics mixed with the gold metal accents.

Because Tempe Mission Palms is a pet friendly hotel, the Arizona Animal Welfare League partnered with us to incorporate a rescue animal. Chandler, a playful cocker spaniel puppy, quickly became the eye of attention. He’s since been adopted but he certainly created some fun and sweet moments during the shoot.

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Tempe Mission Palms_Fully Alive Photography

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Reception: The table set for twelve was nestled between two large trees in the courtyard; the modern garden design began with sophisticated French Blue Shantung linens, Blush Lamour napkins, and Bella Fleur gold chameleon chairs with ivory cushion caps. Suspended above the table was a twelve foot long birch branch strung with eucalyptus and hanging clear glass terrariums. These details have the effect of making the whole space feel very intimate—perfect for a wedding!

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Tempe Mission Palms_Fully Alive Photography

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Stationery: Stationer Rene Showalter of Celebrations in Paper created a slightly whimsical and very colorful wedding stationery suite for the shoot; the invitations, table numbers, and menu all incorporated a bright watercolor flower motif that paired beautifully with the bold floral arrangements and stylish place settings.

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Tempe Mission Palms_Fully Alive Photography

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Tablescape: One take-away from this shoot is that blending textures is a great way to make an impact! You see this especially with the centerpiece design which uses a green moss runner, over-sized clear glass vases, moss orbs, and succulent terrariums with black river stones. Guests sitting at this table will adore the energetic vibe!

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | A Delightful Bonus: Couples planning their wedding in Arizona may be surprised to learn that the gold chargers, china, glassware and flatware featured in this shoot are part of Tempe Mission Palms’ wedding packages!

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Cake: A generous dusting of gold flakes and a sleek white ribbon band make this cake quite lovely but the addition of the flowers and greenery take it to the next level!

Bright Garden Wedding Inspiration | The Venue: Tempe Mission Palms is considered the hidden gem of Tempe, AZ. The hotel is located right off of Mill Avenue and has six different options for ceremony and cocktail receptions along with three options for both indoor and outdoor reception spaces. The flexible options are endless and the planning is up to your imagination!

The hotel includes as complimentary in all of their packages: a garden backdrop, lounge furniture, cocktail tables, cake table, dance floor, dining tables, choice of dining chair, gold chargers, china, glassware and flatware.

Painted Desert Themed Rehearsal Dinner | Phoenix, Arizona
categories: fabulous reception sites, rehearsal dinner spots, Wedding Inspiration

Since there are many events besides the actual wedding to plan for, couples often consider the entire wedding weekend (or a whole week in some cases) a party and keep their out of town guests top of mind. Alison and Jon did just that when they hosted a welcome rehearsal dinner at El Chorro in Paradise Valley. The couple enlisted the help of Elite Circle wedding planner Victoria Canada of Victoria Canada Weddings + Events to plan a painted desert themed rehearsal dinner where guests were treated to delicious southwest inspired food and El Chorro’s legendary views. Surely it will inspired you to include a bit of our gorgeous desert at one of your events!

painted desert themed rehearsal dinner _Phoenix bride and groom_Victoria Canada Weddings and Events_El Chorro_Elyse Hall Photography

A Painted Desert Themed Rehearsal Dinner: The Inspiration: The inspiration for our rehearsal dinner was painted desert! My husband, Jon is originally from Boston and while I grew up in Arizona, most of our guests came from out of town so we really wanted to showcase the desert and have our guests feel like they were on vacation at a “desert oasis.” We chose El Chorro because of its rich, authentic Arizona history, breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain, and classic southwestern cuisine. Jon‘s mom, Janie, really took the reins with the design and planning of the evening and worked closely with Victoria and Brooke to create our painted desert themed rehearsal dinner.

Hand-painted luminarias, traditionally used as Christmas lanterns in the Southwest, set the stage for the evening.

A Painted Desert Themed Rehearsal Dinner | Favorite Part: My favorite part of the evening was walking in and seeing all of our friends and family there as well as seeing the decor. Since I didn’t have too much involvement in planning the evening, I was totally surprised by the desert themed menu sign, watercolor seating chart, flowers, linens, personalized luminaria bags, etc. It was so fun to see the vision of the evening come to life.

A Painted Desert Themed Rehearsal Dinner | Pre-wedding Party: Our rehearsal dinner was very different from our wedding, although they did both incorporated watercolors! The rehearsal dinner decor and vibe was more casual, laid back and funky with pops of vibrant colors while our wedding was much more romantic and whimsical and had more muted colors/pastels. The floral designs for the rehearsal dinner brought in many elements from the desert while our wedding floral designs had more of an enchanted garden feel.

The couple welcomed guests for the weekend with a custom bag filled with local Arizona favorites, a “Recovery Kit”, and a personalized watercolor door hanger—Alison and Jon’s out of town guests were treated to southwestern hospitality right from the start!

A Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | Aimee and Erik
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites, real weddings, Scottsdale Weddings, Wedding Inspiration

classically elegant Arizona wedding _ Phoenix Bride and Groom_El Chorro_Ryan Nicole Photography

Aimee and Erik’s classically elegant Arizona wedding is the stuff dreams are made of—there’s a beautifully in love couple, a stunning setting, a plethora of emotion, and of course the romantic “I do” moment. You’ll love the pretty Southwest-meets-Georgia details (the bride is from the south) and the surprise reception performance!

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | Color Palette: The inspiration for our colors came from the natural landscape of the venue. El Chorro is beautiful, so I wanted something that complemented it rather than trying to do something that looked out of place. My colors were peach and patina. Patina is the color of eucalyptus which is my favorite shade of green and I choose peach, because I’m a Georgia peach! The colors played well together.

Aimee’s “father’s first look” is one of the sweetest we’ve seen—just look at her dad’s priceless reaction!

And of course the couple’s own first look was pretty special too

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | The Ceremony: Aimee and Erik chose to exchange vows at El Chorro’s manicured event lawn that’s nestled at the base of the mountains between Camelback & Mummy Mountains; chairs were draped with eucalyptus garland and satin ribbon. The couple’s dog Archer was given the honor of ring bearer and he played the role expertly!

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | Favorite Moment: It’s hard to pick one moment that stands out as our favorite when the day itself was filled with so many wonderful moments. However, there is one moment that will forever be burned into my heart.  It was the ceremony. Standing up, in front of our friends and family, professing our love and commitment to each other was something that I never imagined. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the fun wedding planning details like linens, signature cocktails and bridesmaid dresses. However, it all comes down to the one you are marrying… I remember standing under the arbor across from Erik, holding hands–looking deep into each others eyes. I remember how green his eyes were in that moment and how tightly we held onto each others hands. His eyes were filled with so much love, trust and commitment. Everyone else faded away and we were in our own little world.

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | Cocktail Hour: While Aimee and Erik strolled through El Chorro’s immaculate grounds, guests enjoyed the outdoor patio at the venue and sipped on margaritas; Aimee’s mother lovingly created the gold frame escort card display.

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | The Reception: Guests proceeded into Casa Paloma for the reception. The room was decorated with both classic and distinct touches; gold and cream linens bore an aztec pattern, floral arrangements of greenery, peach and fresh white flowers topped each table, and peaches served as place card holders. Aimee and Erik chose to dine at a sequined sweetheart table where they had the best view of their loved ones.

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | The Big Surprise: During my maid of honor’s speech, she welcomed up the best man (groom’s brother) to “help give the speech”. Much to our surprise, they busted out in song and dance with their own rendition of the “Erik and Aimee love story”. They rapped, verbatim, our love story. It was hilarious. At the very end of their song all the wedding guests got up from their chairs and headed onto the dance floor for a flashmob. It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life. All our friends and family did a choreographed routine to “Uptown Funk”

Classically Elegant Arizona Wedding | Elite Circle Wedding Vendors: We choose El Chorro because its breathtaking of course! We had dinner there when we were visiting my father who lives Scottsdale a few years back. After we got engaged, Erik and I started discussing venue locations right away. He brought up El Chorro and it was no-brainer for me. Scottsdale is not only where my father lives, but it’s a fun location for a destination wedding…Believe it or not, I interviewed 7 wedding coordinators over the phone. I used to be in corporate events so finding the right person to spearhead our wedding was very important to me. I needed someone that would understand my type-A personality and be “on-it”.  As we say in the south “The devil’s in the details”. Stephanie from A Day to Cherish knocked it out of the park on our initial phone call. She really sold me on the fact that she knew our venue like the back of her hand. Plus, she has a similar working style that I have. She was very responsive over email, which was critical for planning a wedding remotely.  To top it off, she has a great rapport with the El Chorro staff.

Aimee and Erik, congratulations and thank you so much for sharing your classically elegant Arizona wedding with us!
