There are two distinct phrases that come to mind when we see Kimberly and Brendan’s Art Deco Phoenix Wedding. The first is, “They did it their way” and the second is, “They had SO MUCH FUN!”. See, this lovely pair planned a wedding where they clearly made their own decisions— they incorporated sentimental items to honor those they love, both their ceremony and reception venues have personal meaning to them, and the details were thoughtfully curated to create an evening like no other. Oh, and their after-party is one that I genuinely mourn the absence of in my life. You’ve just got to see this wedding beginning with the finery of their attire and ending with hula hoops!

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | Colors: We wanted our wedding to be reflective of both AZ (our beautiful sunsets) and the winter months, so we selected navy and copper with lavender as our accent color. Given the Phoenix Art Museum’s more modern feel, the theme of our wedding was a modern take on art deco and Gatsby, with Arizona twists.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Flowers: Our florist grew her own rosemary and lavender, our two favorite herbs/scents, and this was incorporated into the bouquets, centerpieces, and a bundle was tucked into each place setting at the guest tables. There were also sprigs of fresh lavender added to the water. Brendan’s boutonniere consisted of a succulent and white ranunculus while my bouquet consisted of white anemone, white ranunculus, blue thistle, purple tipped succulents, lavender roses, copper painted eucalyptus, Italian ruscus, and a very special flower: Picasso calla lilies with the purple center. My grandma, who played a huge role in raising me, passed away several years ago, and she carried a bouquet of calla lilies at her wedding so this was a way to pay tribute to her.

In addition to my gold Saint Mary’s College ring, I also wore a small gold ring on my right hand that is a family heirloom which all the women in my family have worn on their wedding day.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | Favorite Moment: Looking back there were so many incredibly special moments on our wedding day, but both of us think the first look was one of the top highlights of the day. There was so much anticipation to see one another, and because we had our photographers and videographers there it built up the anticipation even more. Seeing one another in that moment was pure joy and all of the nerves of the day melted away in an instant.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Ceremony: We were married at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Central Phoenix, which is a church where we have been members and attend regularly. Our family priest, Fr. Ben, officiated the Mass.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Coolest Getaway: In honor of Brendan’s Grandma, who also passed away several years ago, Brendan’s parents had his Grandma’s 1946 Chevy Coupe fully restored in time for the wedding and drove it to Phoenix. The beautiful navy blue car with chrome trim was an unforgettable tribute to Brendan’s Grandma and made for a dramatic getaway car!

It was only fitting that Kimberly and Brendan had their reception at Phoenix Art Museum—it’s one of the first places Kimberly took Brendan to when he moved to Phoenix from Tucson! And again, see how much fun they have together?

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Reception: The reception took place in Phoenix Art Museum’s Cummings Hall, a dramatic and spacious space perfect for entertaining.

Food was another really important aspect of our wedding since we are HUGE foodies. We decided to have a Southwest Italian feast that  highlighted the flavors and produce of Arizona as well as our love for Italian food. Our caterers incorporated traditional Italian pastas with Southwestern chilis, meats, and produce. The caterers’ signature braised short ribs were served with an ancho chili sauce and the favorite pasta of the pasta bar was the penne pasta with tequila lime chicken and peppers.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Cake: The beautiful and fresh cake featured my (Kimberly’s) layer—chocolate cake and cannoli filling—and Brendan’s layer—vanilla cake with cream and fresh raspberries.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Photobooth: To match the classy, modern theme, our photobooth company handmade a wall of white, paper flowers as the backdrop for the photobooth fun! Many guests thought it was part of the museum.

If you’ve looked at a lot of wedding photos, you know how awkward some cake cutting/eating photos can be…but not Kimberly and Brendan’s cake photo! Oh no, these two are simply the cutest!

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The After Party: At the exit, guests were able to take a few glow sticks for the grand exit and after party, which was held at The Duce…guests also took some awesome handmade leather Arizona keychains that my beloved Grandpa made by hand. The keychains either said AZ or 1.7.17 (our wedding date).

The after party is where we giddily rejoiced for Kimberly and Brendan and the beautiful wedding day they planned—to have their photographers follow them to the after party where the couple and their guests played games, danced, and just let loose is just pure genius. It’s the best way we can think of to end a wedding!

What’s your advice for other couples to achieve such an easy-going & fun attitude? The stress leading up to the wedding day is like none other because each couple invests so much time, energy, and money into making it the perfect day. We had a blast on our wedding day and felt many things contributed to our relaxed and fun going attitude. First off, hiring the best team of vendors really paid off for us because we were confident in them and each one of them exceeded our expectations so we didn’t feel like we were worrying about anything on the day of the wedding. Surrounding ourselves with loved ones was also key to easing nerves. The greatest piece of advice for other couples that we can give is to remember this day is all about the union of you and your partner. Have faith in all of the planning and preparation you have both done and focus on one another because your guests will have a blast and the vendors will ensure everything else is perfect.

Our wedding day was the best day yet, and we feel so totally grateful and in love with how it all turned out. We are excited to share our story and hopefully inspire other engaged couples! We learned so much and grew even closer together as a couple during the planning process, and we feel it all paid off beautifully.

Where there any surprises or things you would change? We feel really blessed because we didn’t have any major surprises or issues on our wedding day; even during a rainy January we lucked out and got a sunny, cool weather day. Everyone told us prepare for something to go wrong, but we believe that due to all of our planning and amazing vendors (ok and a bit of good luck too), every single detail went off without a hitch. The week of the wedding we decided to add an informal “after party” at The Duce and we are so glad we did that. Even though it was a super long day already, our adrenaline kicked in and we (plus many of our guests) were wide awake and ready to continue the party! We would recommend to either book your reception venue an hour longer, or select an after party spot like we did. We closed down The Duce and partied until nearly 2am!

Congratulations Kimberly and Brendan and thank you for sharing your wedding with us!

Amanda and Gavin’s wedding day was a lovely celebration of their adoration for each other and, even more so, a celebration of family. Special touches throughout the day make it extra sweet and the location, Phoenix Art Museum, makes it a bit modern too.

The couple wanted an elegant feel so they chose a black, white and lavender color palette; calla lilies and hydrangeas are the bride’s favorite flowers.

This moment between Gavin and Amanda’s daughter- a secret promise ceremony- is so beautiful and definitely a tear jerker!

The groom wore custom cuff links that had, “Will You Marry Me?” on one and the wedding date on the other

Since Phoenix Art Museum has all kinds of interesting things to look at, Amanda and Gavin kept their decor simple with the linens, flowers and details; the wish tree was also used in Amanda’s sister’s wedding and the couple had an art piece created for them that bore their initials and wedding date.

The happy couple’s final thoughts on their wedding: The day was everything and more that we could have expected, the venue was gorgeous and we had such an amazing time celebrating our love, our families and friends.

Amanda and Gavin, thank you for sharing your wedding with us and congratulations!
