Celebrating 18 Years of Phoenix Bride & Groom!
categories: cakes and sweets, fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, from the consultants, photography, reception ideas, rehearsal dinner spots, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

Our 18th anniversary party was a night to remember…the most beloved wedding vendors in Arizona attended, we cheered/cried/danced, and the decor, venue and food was everything we could have hoped for and more. We consider ourselves beyond lucky to have been able to celebrate 18 years of producing Arizona’s premier wedding magazine surrounded by such love and beauty and we’re thrilled to share the event’s design details and people who are a part of this fantastic community with you.

First things first, our host venue was the brand new, super chic Mountain Shadows and we can’t say enough good things about this place! The staff is wonderful to work with, the views are absolutely spectacular, the food is delicious, and the venue’s design is so perfect for weddings that we just can’t wait to see all the events that are sure to take place here.

The party began outdoors on the Paradise Terrace which offers incredible views of Camelback Mountain and we fell in love with the design of the space and the decor. The floral arrangements designed by Your Event Florist were bright, cheery, and elegant—the gold painted succulents were one of our favorite details from the event. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the beautiful linens, the weather was absolute perfection, and the displays of some of our favorite covers with commentary by our team about each were a hit! Jennifer Thye of Imoni Events and her team graciously planned the event for us and we can’t thank them enough for their attention to detail and creative input. They are a stellar group of ladies who we just adore!

The party moved into the Paradise Ballroom for speeches, entertainment, dinner, and dancing. You HAVE to see this space in person—the retracting glass walls make for an impressive entrance and the interior of the ballroom is classically neutral. There are beautiful lights hanging overhead and there’s plenty of space to celebrate. Cocktail tables, lounge furniture, food stations, a stage set with an oversized floral hoop (designed by Brady’s Floral Gallery), and a dance floor made our anniversary party gorgeous.

Event rentals were provided by Classic Party Rentals—a company we have worked with many times over the years—and they always impress us with their product quality and generosity. The ballroom floral designs were created by Butterfly Petals (all tables) and Brady’s Floral Gallery (hoop and food stations). Both floral firms are known for their willingness to stand out a bit from the crowd and create unique floral decor; Butterfly Petals’ concrete pots and metal vases added a city chic vibe while soft greens and shades of pink popped against the white and neutral rentals and linens. Four different linens from Wildflower Linens dressed the tables beautifully for our party and we can’t recommend them enough—their design and innovation is always on point.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Applause Entertainment; cocktail hour music kicked things off then a live band played later on in the evening which enhanced the festive mood.

Of course there was food too…we enjoyed delicious appetizers from Heidi’s Events and Catering plus several food stations set up by Mountain Shadows. Dessert consisted of a large table set with pretty and delicious bites compliments of Piece of Cake Desserts, PJ’s Cakes, and Bedazzle my Bonbons.

The evening brought out the best of the best in the Arizona wedding industry and we’re grateful to all who attended. We’re also so incredibly proud to have worked with our publisher, Fran Samuel, to create a magazine for the past 18 years as legendary as Phoenix Bride & Groom. She gave the most heartfelt speech (her grandson provided moral support on the stage) and a video was created by Something New Media Weddings that included messages from industry professionals to commemorate all the work she’s done for the wedding community in Arizona. To hear the shared gratitude, admiration, and love we all have for this very special individual was emotional to say the least! We also presented Fran with a mini version of a gift that has all the covers of Phoenix Bride & Groom magazine from the past 18 years. We’re pretty sure she loves it!

Of course, then we got to the partying! There was some networking, lots of music and dancing, and even a photo booth!

So there you have it! Our 18th Anniversary party was an evening of fun and celebration, exactly as we hoped it would be! It’s been an honor to work within the wedding industry in Arizona for 18 years and to work with the couples who wed in Arizona that have allowed us to share their special days!

Thank you to the following people for their generosity—your creative talents and hard work are much appreciated!

Kristen and Jeffrey’s woodland inspired Sedona wedding in Fall is packed with beautiful moments and copper hued wedding decor- it’s the season’s hottest color and you’ll understand why we love it so much once you see the pics!

The ring bearers carried treasure chests covered in moss, grasses, pods and succulents; flower girls donned the sweetest boho inspired floral crowns

The ceremony was outside and had the most spectacular view of Sedona’s Red Rocks; the copper colored leaves in the garland and floral arrangements are magnolia leaves- we really love them for fall weddings!

Congrats to the bride and groom!

The reception was in the ballroom and Events by Showstoppers filled it beautifully with floral garland, hanging chandeliers, dramatic drape, intentional lighting, and lush centerpieces; even though the reception was indoors, it still had a magical woodland vibe.

Events by Showstoppers tells us about the seating card display: Three old wrought iron gates served as the seat assignment cards.  They formed a free standing  “screen,” and were draped with more handmade floral garlands…The cards were tied on alphabetically.

The rehearsal dinner was just as gorgeous so we wanted to include a few photos from that event as well:

Wedding Trend: Tall Vases with Floating Floral Centerpieces
categories: floral inspiration, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

Centerpiece design offers a wide range of possibilities- sometimes couples choose low arrangements with the idea that they want their guests to be able to converse easily during dinner. Low profile centerpieces are especially appropriate for brunch weddings and can be a lovely way to decorate feasting tables as well; however, some couples choose tall designs because they want the overall effect of their floral arrangements to be more dramatic or fill a room that has tall ceilings. While both are beautiful, tall vases with floating floral centerpieces are a trend that we keep seeing in wedding floral design. Here are some examples from our Elite Circle florists:

tall vases with floating floral centerpieces _phoenix-bride-and-groom__eyes2see_your-event-florist_jw-marriott-desert-ridge

(Florist: Your Event Florist, Photographer: Eyes 2 See, Location: JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa)

More and more couples are choosing tall vases with floating floral centerpieces that feature very full arrangements at the top of the vase. We love this approach because it allows guests to still see everyone at the table while creating a nice airy feeling to the overall wedding decor; clear vases with floating flowers make a stylish statement that guests are sure to remember!

(Florist: Your Event Florist, Photographer: Eyes 2 See, Location: Arizona Biltmore)

Proportionately speaking, tall clear vases fill a ballroom with high ceilings very well and have a more formal vibe; floating elements add a touch of unexpected detail (and sometimes a pop of color)!

Wedding Ceremony Ideas Using Green
categories: floral inspiration, for your ceremony, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

Living in the desert doesn’t necessarily mean we’re strangers to green- yes, you’ll see tons of desert/cactus wedding photos coming out of Arizona- but quite often, pops of greenery at outdoor ceremonies are completely in line with the surrounding landscape. Today’s post shares 12 wedding ceremony ideas using green that are perfectly appropriate for the desert!

Wedding Ceremony Ideas Using Green: Let’s start with the actual aisle. You can line it with petals, vases, jars, candles, etc. but one thing we want to see more of is using greenery to add texture and frame the aisle.

Shepherds hooks wrapped with greenery are so beautiful and create a soft border for the bridal party and couple as they walk the aisle

Lush ferns and graceful calla lilies line the raised walkway of this aisle making it simultaneously elegant and dramatic

For organic ceremony decor, cloches filled with herbs alongside lavender and soft floral arrangements create a naturally beautiful ceremony aisle

Wedding Ceremony Ideas Using Green: Ceremony chairs are the perfect place to add some green. You can decorate every chair, every other chair, or just the last row of chairs with an impressive swag. Whatever you choose, make sure guests can still sit comfortably IN the chairs!

Mason jars and wispy greens are a sweet and casually rustic option

Eucalyptus greens and seeded eucalyptus seem to be really popular for weddings but you can also use grasses, ferns and tropical leaves to bring in green at your ceremony

Wedding Ceremony Ideas Using Green: Green ceremony statement backdrops. When designing your wedding ceremony, consider what your pictures will look like. If your ceremony space already has a gorgeous backdrop, you might not want to do anything but if you want to make a statement, green backdrops are really fun.

These two walls of green with white floral and ribbon on a crisscross pattern definitely draw the eye to the couple saying I Do!

Isn’t this fabric swath with green garland so romantic? It sort of ties together the space so the bride and groom are gently framed for their I Do’s

A large green “wall” at the end of the aisle makes this very large space seem more intimate and creates a much needed focal point; hanging pomander balls also visually lower the ceiling making the guests feel a bit more grounded

This ceremony space, lined with lots of greenery and a bit of white is topped off with a wooden arbor that has an asymmetrical green installation- it’s really quite unique

Real Wedding: Dana and Mike
categories: fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, real weddings, Wedding Inspiration

One thing that really makes me happy is a relaxed bride and groom who have a good connection. Dana and Mike definitely have that connection and they just seem so comfortable with the camera focused on them. Look at these two!

I’m jumping ahead in our wedding day story though…first, look at how pretty Dana is!

She’s a natural beauty, and her girls are too!

And look at how handsome Mike and his crew are:

Dana explains her choice of delightful colors,“we wanted our wedding to be unique and to represent Arizona’s beautiful scenery and brilliant sunsets. Thus, we chose colors that we had not seen in any other weddings- bright teal blue and vibrant orange. Guests later said that they matched the Arizona sunset that night perfectly…the bridesmaids wore bright teal dresses from Bella Bridesmaids, and their dresses were complimented by bouquets with bright calla lillies and orange fire roses that truly popped against the teal. Given the laid back environment, the men wore Michael Kors suits with an orange tie for the groom and teal ties for the groomsmen.”

Here’s what Dana had to say about choosing Blackstone Country Club for their wedding day, “…Blackstone Country Club is a beautiful venue situated between majestic mountains and rolling desert landscape. As soon as we saw the venue, we knew it was the perfect place for us to host our wedding (the day after seeing the venue, the groom hit his first hole in one ever on the 17th hole of the Blackstone course- so it was meant to be that our wedding was there!).”

One thing that really caught my eye from this wedding was how beautiful the reception was. I love the colors Dana and Mike chose and the vendors they chose to work with brought their vision together with such style. It’s possible that teal and orange is now one of my favorite color combos!

Dana did lots of work for me today- I’ll let her tell you about the reception! “After the ceremony and toasts…guests dug in [to dinner] and soon the party was underway. There was a lot of dancing, picture taking and laughing. The DJ mixed it up perfectly and guests danced their hearts out to Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga and Jay z among many others. It was a perfect night.”

Here are a few other special details from Dana and Mike’s wedding, as told by Dana:

My mom surprised me with a special garter made from the wedding dress she married my dad in 35 years ago, my childhood “blankie” and a heart taken from my favorite stuffed animal growing up. I will give that garter to my daughter one day…”

We each wrote personal vows- I mentioned my husband’s favorite baseball player… and he mentioned my favorite tv show. We got lots of laughs which calmed our nerves. Our reverend was funny, calm and charming. Our flower girl, wearing a ring of flowers in her hair, came down the aisle throwing orange rose petals. But she accidentally threw the doily that was in the bottom of her flower girl basket and was so upset she ran to her daddy. It was adorable and priceless.”

Guests enjoyed amazing food: Chicken breast stuffed with roasted peppers, artichokes and jack cheese or Cavatelli pasta with grilled vegetables, kalamata olives, oven cured tomato, white wine sauce and cilantro cream sauce.” Yummm!

Dana and Mike, thank you so much for sharing your wedding day with us and Congratulations!

Kelly

From Our Pages: Sedona Surprise
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, fabulous reception sites, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, from the consultants, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

In everything they do, the Sedona Wedding Studio is a rock solid team. The studio itself is a really cool destination for couples planning their weddings but it’s the creative forces that work behind the scenes that consistently blow me away.  The members of the studio, founded by Events by Showstoppers and Sedona Bride Photography, conceptualized a genius wedding inspiration eye candy plethora that I am overjoyed to share with you today. We published it in our most recent magazine issue and it was so gorgeous that it was featured on Style Me Pretty too. This is prettiness at it’s best readers!

Liz Margin, make-up artist, always does such a beautiful job. Read more about her here. And Patricia Vega  styled the hair- I really like the male model’s cool ‘do.

Notice the eclectic mix of styles and design elements throughout. There’s rustic, vintage, DIY, modern and elegant features all playing very nicely together. Wedding Coordinator Margaret VanDamme has created some amazing wedding inspiration for those of you who want a creative and custom feel at your wedding.

This is one of my all time favorite wedding bouquets- it’s vibrant colors are so happy!

All the food sounds and looks scrumptious but the baskets of peaches and plums have my heart- an edible wedding favor is always best!

Dancing Apache Lodge is unique to Arizona in that it has a rustic charm and lush vineyards…it’s not easy to find landscapes that rival California’s but these do the trick!

What did I tell you? It’s wedding inspiration galore!

More info on the shoot can be found in our latest print issue and here on the web.
