Elite Circle Wedding Florist in Arizona | Butterfly Petals
categories: floral inspiration, Meet Our Friends, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

To say that Mandi, owner and principal designer of Butterfly Petals, is creative or talented doesn’t quite do her work justice. Mandi is a visionary. She doesn’t do what everyone else does—she works with materials that are completely unexpected and somehow infuses her passion for desert inspired floral into every single thing she touches. By the time you’re finished reading this, you’ll want this well-known Elite Circle wedding florist in Arizona to design for you, we just know it! But first, you simply MUST get to know Mandi and the philosophy that drives Butterfly Petals…

What do you think makes Butterfly Petals a stand-out wedding florist in Arizona? In a world where creatives are encouraged to only design to a brand, I decided I love flowers too much to limit myself to one style or look and feel. Yes, we’re known for our rustic desert work, but we’re extremely flexible and can design around anyone’s preferred look and feel. We have a huge inventory of vases and containers to suit everyone’s tastes whether it’s rustic, elegant or modern. I have a great team around me with their own design skill set and we can always pull something awesome together which fits our clients’ needs. We will always be known for our desert designs and I think that’s because I’m an Arizona native and can’t help myself. I have to play with cacti and textures and they seep into my work when left to my own devices.

You’re always a bit ahead of the trends and often use unique elements in your design so we’re dying to know: where do you get your inspiration from? I pay attention to design trends outside the wedding industry. If you see pillows show up in Target with palm leaves, you’re bound to start seeing inspiration shoots for weddings featuring cool tropical greenery and backgrounds. I have a giant pile of home decor catalogs clogging my mailbox, I even see the design trends on shows like Fixer Upper on HGTV. As the wood finishes change on home furnishings, the rental companies start to carry similar pieces in their inventory. It’s gone from Farm tables to upscale Pottery Barn style dining…all in the wedding world. I also try to follow international designers. The boho trend started to take off in Australia and New Zealand where they have access to all the gorgeous protea we’re starting to see in bridal bouquets. Dress designers started adding bell sleeves and everything felt a little 70s/hippy gypsy. Lo and behold, the brides stateside started taking note and suddenly the rental companies are carrying peacock chairs and oriental rugs and we’re designing with pampas grass and protea. Following bridal blogs is helpful as well but once a trend starts it can be a plague of sameness. I always want to be on to the next thing for my clients while still keeping my designs desert-friendly and funky.

What do you want clients to know about their own wedding before meeting with you in order to get the most out of your initial consultation? Know the overall look and feel you want to achieve. Don’t worry too much about zeroing in on exactly what flowers are going to be in each vase and container– instead think about how you want the wedding to feel. Think about your guests walking into the reception space-do you see rustic tables with long flowing garlands or round tables with linen and tall stately centerpieces? Think big picture and we’ll zoom in and fill in those details. It’s also key to know your venue and an approximate idea of how many guests you’ll be inviting, the size of your wedding party and your needs for ceremony, etc. We want to get the initial quotes as accurate as possible so you know what you’re in for.

How do you approach/work with clients that aren’t “flower people”? Most people aren’t flower people. Or at least, most people don’t fill their entire day with thoughts of flower types, seasonal availability, colors, etc. Don’t worry too much about knowing flowers–we’ll fill that in for you. Know the overall look and feel you’re going for and we’ll help you with the rest. If you just don’t think you want a ton of flowers or never envisioned lush floral design at your wedding–that’s ok too. Flowers add a lot but I’m very practical in my approach. Everyone is going to want something unique at their wedding or celebration and sometimes that means very clean and minimal floral.

If you could give couples planning their weddings your top piece of advice when it comes to flowers, what would you say? Pinterest is a great start but keep in mind, that like most social media, it’s now run by algorithms that feed you results based on what everyone else is pinning and drawn to. They’re pulling gorgeous photo-ready weddings from Style Me Pretty and other inspirational blogs that don’t always feature the most affordable floral designs. You’re also getting the same results 100 other clients are getting. Instead of pinning 85 photos of peony bouquets and finding out they aren’t available or are extremely expensive the time of year the wedding occurs, I’d rather my clients start with broad strokes–look for pretty bouquets in your color scheme. Know what you like or don’t like about them–whether it’s the shape or the way the colors balance with each other. It gives us the flexibility of working with mother nature to come up with designs that work in our desert climate as well as designs which suit every look, feel and budget. It also gives us a little creativity. This is what we do after all, and a little trust in your designer’s skills will give you a gorgeous result every time.

What floral trends or new floral design options are you seeing that you’re excited about? Color is coming back. We’ve been dancing around the same shades of blush, gold or peach and mint for the last several years. Gorgeous weddings every time but there’s something refreshing about a client who wants to use deep plums and fuchsia or a client who wants strong yellows. It allows us to work with floral we haven’t been using in the last few years like exotic orchids or calla lilies. Bold flowers that make a statement.

11 Bouquets with Hydrangeas | Wedding Flowers
categories: floral inspiration, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

There’s just something about hydrangeas that we love for weddings- it could be that they come in a variety of colors (white is most popular), it could be that they’re soft and sweet thanks to their small petals and naturally round shape, or it could be their ability to be either the star of the bouquet show or a supporting flower. It doesn’t really matter why we like them though because they’re just lovely for weddings! Here are 11 gorgeous bouquets with hydrangeas designed by Arizona’s Elite Circle Florists:

Bouquets with Hydrangeas: White hydrangeas are full bodied- adding just one pop of color to an all-white hydrangea bouquet is probably our favorite way florists use it!

Arizona Wedding Planning | Wedding Expo Inspiration
categories: floral inspiration, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Resources

As a couple planning your wedding in Arizona, you have so many options when it comes to wedding expos, open houses, wedding “bootcamps” and bridal shows- the plethora of options makes Arizona wedding planning easier (or more fun) than ever!

We recently attended the Arizona Bridal Show and Wedding Expo (formerly known as the Bridal Fashion Debut) and our booth was pretty gorgeous so we thought we would share some of the wedding inspiration with you!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding planning_Arizona Bridal Show_Fully Alive Photography

The focal point was the sweetheart table draped in gorgeous linens from Classic Party Rentals but we also had other tables and seating from Glamour and Woods for added ambiance; creative floral designs by Butterfly Petals and styling by Apropros Creations made it a stand out booth. Brides, grooms and friends and family of those brides and grooms all commented on it and we couldn’t have been prouder!

Our Senior Sales Manager Kristen Butler and Publisher Fran Samuel were there all day and they had a blast talking to couples, handing out the newest issue of our magazine, and chatting it up with the other vendors at the show.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding planning_Arizona Bridal Show_Fully Alive Photography

Of course we had plenty of copies of our magazine to give out the day of the show but you can pick up your own copy at any of these locations if you missed it.

Time and again, brides and grooms tell us at these wedding expos and bridal shows that their Arizona wedding planning started with us and we can’t even tell you how much that means to us. It’s why we do what we do!

Wedding Inspiration: Buttercup- Pantone Wedding Colors for 2016
categories: photography, real weddings, reception ideas, Sedona, Sedona Weddings, the paper chase, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

No doubt, Pantone’s Buttercup is the brightest color of the bunch (have you seen the color palette that’s inspiring the Pantone Wedding Colors for 2016?) and with it comes quite a few options for couples planning their weddings in Arizona.

Pantone describes Buttercup: While he majority of the Spring/Summer palette trends toward calmness, a few diversions from the theme emerge that offer a contrast. With Buttercup, designers reveal a shining beacon transporting its wearer to a happier, sunnier place.

Wedding Trend: Antlers
categories: floral inspiration, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

We’re not really sure how the antler trend got started but it has definitely caught on in the most interesting and beautiful ways. We have a spectacular feature in our Winter Spring 2015 issue that includes antlers, among other things (how DOES one incorporate taxidermy into a wedding???), plus we’re sharing some of our favorite ways to use these rustic but surprisingly chic accessories at your wedding.
