Kimberly & Brendan’s Art Deco Phoenix Wedding
categories: fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, real weddings, Wedding Inspiration

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Sunshine and Reign Photography

There are two distinct phrases that come to mind when we see Kimberly and Brendan’s Art Deco Phoenix Wedding. The first is, “They did it their way” and the second is, “They had SO MUCH FUN!”. See, this lovely pair planned a wedding where they clearly made their own decisions— they incorporated sentimental items to honor those they love, both their ceremony and reception venues have personal meaning to them, and the details were thoughtfully curated to create an evening like no other. Oh, and their after-party is one that I genuinely mourn the absence of in my life. You’ve just got to see this wedding beginning with the finery of their attire and ending with hula hoops!

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | Colors: We wanted our wedding to be reflective of both AZ (our beautiful sunsets) and the winter months, so we selected navy and copper with lavender as our accent color. Given the Phoenix Art Museum’s more modern feel, the theme of our wedding was a modern take on art deco and Gatsby, with Arizona twists.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Flowers: Our florist grew her own rosemary and lavender, our two favorite herbs/scents, and this was incorporated into the bouquets, centerpieces, and a bundle was tucked into each place setting at the guest tables. There were also sprigs of fresh lavender added to the water. Brendan’s boutonniere consisted of a succulent and white ranunculus while my bouquet consisted of white anemone, white ranunculus, blue thistle, purple tipped succulents, lavender roses, copper painted eucalyptus, Italian ruscus, and a very special flower: Picasso calla lilies with the purple center. My grandma, who played a huge role in raising me, passed away several years ago, and she carried a bouquet of calla lilies at her wedding so this was a way to pay tribute to her.

In addition to my gold Saint Mary’s College ring, I also wore a small gold ring on my right hand that is a family heirloom which all the women in my family have worn on their wedding day.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | Favorite Moment: Looking back there were so many incredibly special moments on our wedding day, but both of us think the first look was one of the top highlights of the day. There was so much anticipation to see one another, and because we had our photographers and videographers there it built up the anticipation even more. Seeing one another in that moment was pure joy and all of the nerves of the day melted away in an instant.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Ceremony: We were married at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Central Phoenix, which is a church where we have been members and attend regularly. Our family priest, Fr. Ben, officiated the Mass.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Coolest Getaway: In honor of Brendan’s Grandma, who also passed away several years ago, Brendan’s parents had his Grandma’s 1946 Chevy Coupe fully restored in time for the wedding and drove it to Phoenix. The beautiful navy blue car with chrome trim was an unforgettable tribute to Brendan’s Grandma and made for a dramatic getaway car!

It was only fitting that Kimberly and Brendan had their reception at Phoenix Art Museum—it’s one of the first places Kimberly took Brendan to when he moved to Phoenix from Tucson! And again, see how much fun they have together?

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Sunshine and Reign Photography Art Deco Phoenix Wedding _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Sunshine and Reign Photography

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Reception: The reception took place in Phoenix Art Museum’s Cummings Hall, a dramatic and spacious space perfect for entertaining.

Food was another really important aspect of our wedding since we are HUGE foodies. We decided to have a Southwest Italian feast that  highlighted the flavors and produce of Arizona as well as our love for Italian food. Our caterers incorporated traditional Italian pastas with Southwestern chilis, meats, and produce. The caterers’ signature braised short ribs were served with an ancho chili sauce and the favorite pasta of the pasta bar was the penne pasta with tequila lime chicken and peppers.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Cake: The beautiful and fresh cake featured my (Kimberly’s) layer—chocolate cake and cannoli filling—and Brendan’s layer—vanilla cake with cream and fresh raspberries.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Sunshine and Reign Photography

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The Photobooth: To match the classy, modern theme, our photobooth company handmade a wall of white, paper flowers as the backdrop for the photobooth fun! Many guests thought it was part of the museum.

If you’ve looked at a lot of wedding photos, you know how awkward some cake cutting/eating photos can be…but not Kimberly and Brendan’s cake photo! Oh no, these two are simply the cutest!

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Sunshine and Reign Photography

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding | The After Party: At the exit, guests were able to take a few glow sticks for the grand exit and after party, which was held at The Duce…guests also took some awesome handmade leather Arizona keychains that my beloved Grandpa made by hand. The keychains either said AZ or 1.7.17 (our wedding date).

The after party is where we giddily rejoiced for Kimberly and Brendan and the beautiful wedding day they planned—to have their photographers follow them to the after party where the couple and their guests played games, danced, and just let loose is just pure genius. It’s the best way we can think of to end a wedding!

What’s your advice for other couples to achieve such an easy-going & fun attitude? The stress leading up to the wedding day is like none other because each couple invests so much time, energy, and money into making it the perfect day. We had a blast on our wedding day and felt many things contributed to our relaxed and fun going attitude. First off, hiring the best team of vendors really paid off for us because we were confident in them and each one of them exceeded our expectations so we didn’t feel like we were worrying about anything on the day of the wedding. Surrounding ourselves with loved ones was also key to easing nerves. The greatest piece of advice for other couples that we can give is to remember this day is all about the union of you and your partner. Have faith in all of the planning and preparation you have both done and focus on one another because your guests will have a blast and the vendors will ensure everything else is perfect.

Our wedding day was the best day yet, and we feel so totally grateful and in love with how it all turned out. We are excited to share our story and hopefully inspire other engaged couples! We learned so much and grew even closer together as a couple during the planning process, and we feel it all paid off beautifully.

Art Deco Phoenix Wedding _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Sunshine and Reign Photography

Where there any surprises or things you would change? We feel really blessed because we didn’t have any major surprises or issues on our wedding day; even during a rainy January we lucked out and got a sunny, cool weather day. Everyone told us prepare for something to go wrong, but we believe that due to all of our planning and amazing vendors (ok and a bit of good luck too), every single detail went off without a hitch. The week of the wedding we decided to add an informal “after party” at The Duce and we are so glad we did that. Even though it was a super long day already, our adrenaline kicked in and we (plus many of our guests) were wide awake and ready to continue the party! We would recommend to either book your reception venue an hour longer, or select an after party spot like we did. We closed down The Duce and partied until nearly 2am!

Congratulations Kimberly and Brendan and thank you for sharing your wedding with us!

Kaila and Kyle’s Glam DIY Wedding at Sassi

Kaila and Kyle (seriously, such a gorgeous couple) said “I DO” at the stunning Sassi in North Scottsdale among dear friends and family. We’re calling their wedding a Glam DIY Wedding because while they decided not to hire a wedding planner, they still had gorgeous professional looking details; highlights include luscious coral peonies, beautifully hand-painted wooden signs and pops of shimmering gold.

Those bouquets!

A Glam DIY Wedding Ceremony: The desert venue doesn’t disappoint when it comes to intimate moments, picturesque views, delicious food and beautiful photo ops…the centerpiece of Kaila and Kyle’s ceremony was an arch complete with lush floral and hanging crystals that framed the couples nuptials perfectly.

Kaila recalls: The day of our wedding was supposed to have consistent rain from morning until evening. While we were getting ready there was thunder and severe rain. When we finally arrived at the venue, my bridal party and I realized we forgot my wedding dress at the hotel. Omg! However, we all just kept rolling with the punches. By the time the wedding started the sun actually came out…we had the most beautiful outdoor ceremony and I even remember hummingbirds flying around.

Our favorite part of the wedding was seeing each other for the first time. We had debated if we wanted to do a first look and I’m so glad we didn’t. There was something about being traditional that made it very special when I walked down the isle. We were both so happy to see one another.

A Glam DIY Wedding Reception: We had a clear vision of how we wanted everything to look and feel. This made it easier for us to focus our time on the details. By spending time on details and special touches our personalities were able to shine through.

Photos from Kaila and Kyle’s parents’ houses were placed on the mantle in the private Sassi room which added a very comforting vibe; regarding dinner, Kaila tells us, “Our menu was three courses and consisted of an antipasto salad, hand rolled cavatelli pasta with short rib, and seasonal white fish and filet mignon. It was important for us to have amazing food and Sassi definitely delivered. We had many of our guest comment on how delicious the food was!”

Real Arizona Wedding: A Gold New Years Eve Wedding
categories: real weddings, reception ideas, Scottsdale Weddings, Wedding Inspiration

Phoenix Bride and Groom_gold new years eve wedding_Arizona Wedding_Cami Takes Photos (1)

Kathleen and Nathan’s gold New Years Eve wedding is all you would hope for in a New Years Eve party plus a little extra with the I Do’s. There’s lots of sparkly gold and black details, an atmosphere of lighthearted and romantic fun and a “mix your own confetti” bar. Oh yes, you’ve got to see this!

We love how the bride describes her wedding: My husband and I like to joke that attending our wedding probably felt as though Kate Spade herself was attending a New Year’s Eve party hosted at Disneyland. That is, if Disneyland were set in a mod southwestern hotel, in the early 1920’s. We were inspired by many different facets- our obsession with fairytale romance and the richness and warmth that a golden color palette can bring paired with a little Gatsby, a little Disney, and a whole lotta’ love.

Candlelit and intimate, the ceremony had to be moved indoors since the weather didn’t cooperate. A giant gold sign was hung as a backdrop to the couple’s vows and Kathleen’s “Pepa” (grandfather) officated.

Cocktail hour continued the gold New Years Eve theme with champagne shaped chocolates, customized gold glitter fortune cookies and black and gold noisemakers that were used as escort cards. The reception was in a ballroom that was lit with 180 black taper candles- they highlighted the gold sequin table runners which were handmade by the mother of the groom and many sparkly gold details throughout.

The confetti bar made certain that this was a festive New Years Eve!

Not only was this a gold New Years Eve wedding, it was also a Disney inspired New Years Eve wedding! The couple displayed some nostalgic Disney memorabilia at the reception and gifted Little Golden Books as favors; they hand-selected 4 of their favorite fairytales and attached a tag with a sweet message in the hope that guests would see the books as a token of remembrance not only for the wedding but the idea of love and magic in every day life.

Of course there was confetti EVERYWHERE but Kathleen and Nathan’s gold New Years Eve wedding wouldn’t have been complete without it!

Wedding Shoes: Charlotte Mills 2016 Bridal Collection
categories: bridal fashions, for your ceremony, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

As you know, to complete her wedding day look, a bride must shop for much more than just the wedding gown- a bride’s unique style extends to the accessories she’ll adorn herself with, the veil that will perfectly complement the gown, and of course, the wedding shoes she’ll wear to say “I Do” and celebrate her nuptials.

In the spirit of making sure every bride feels especially lovely on her wedding day, we’re introducing you to the sweetest wedding shoes we’ve seen- the Charlotte Mills 2016 Bridal Collection, aptly named “All That Glitters”.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding shoes_Charlotte MIlls Bridal_Johnny Draper Photography_pumps_heels_hearts (1)

Why do we adore this collection of so much? That’s easy!

1. The Charlotte Mills 2016 Bridal Collection includes a sixpence in each pair of wedding shoes, a thoughtful touch that can be a bride’s “Something Old”. In fact, the leather sole of each shoe in the bridal collection is embossed with the phrase “Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe.”

2. The heart detailing that Charlotte Mills is known for makes these shoes the absolutely perfect pair of wedding shoes. It’s all about the love, right?

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding shoes_Charlotte MIlls Bridal_Johnny Draper Photography_pumps_heels_hearts (4)

This season the designs do not stray far from her signature of creating luxury fashion forward styles with a fun love heart twist…Colour plays an important part in the collection, which is perfect for those Brides who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd and want something unique.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding shoes_Charlotte MIlls Bridal_Johnny Draper Photography_pumps_heels_hearts (7)

3. Other design details such as the chunky heels and soft glitter accents take these wedding shoes to the next level

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding shoes_Charlotte MIlls Bridal_Johnny Draper Photography_pumps_heels_hearts (5) Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding shoes_Charlotte MIlls Bridal_Johnny Draper Photography_pumps_heels_hearts (6)

Aren’t these flats adorable? We especially love how the ankle tie is finished with a heart- it’s the perfect touch of whimsy (and we bet these wedding shoes are the ultimate in comfort!). If you happen to be taller than your beloved and don’t want to wear heels on your wedding day, these sweeties are for you!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_wedding shoes_Charlotte Mills Bridal_Johnny Draper Photography_pumps_heels_hearts (8)

We want brides to feel lovely from top to bottom on their wedding days and one way to ensure that happens is for a bride to wear the most beautiful, sassy, fun, or unique wedding shoes she can find. We think the shoes from Charlotte Mills’ 2016 Bridal Collection fit the bill beautifully!

Even though Tiffany and Corey eloped, it was very important to them that they celebrate their marriage with their friends and family here in Arizona so they planned a “rooftop Vegas” themed wedding reception- the Las Vegas inspired party was all glam with gold details, lots of sparkle and tons of candles. We LOVE it, especially because it showcases the venue in a way we’ve never seen before.

The couple’s original reception location shut down 2 weeks before their wedding reception and in their search for a new location, they found Val Vista Lakes Clubhouse. Janet, the on-site event coordinator, was able to accommodate the couple’s unique situation and assist them in making their dream celebration happen regardless of the last minute changes- Tiffany and Corey felt like they hit the jackpot!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Wedding Reception_Real wedding_Val Vista Lakes_Suzy Goodrick Photography (2)

The Gown: My dress inspired the theme and my desire for sequin linens and metallic accents as a way to have a touch of our Vegas elopement present at the reception.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Wedding Reception_Real wedding_Val Vista Lakes_Suzy Goodrick Photography (3)

Wedding Reception Decor: I wanted to create a romantic vibe in the reception space with a boho glam theme. I did not want it to be rustic instead hoping for a more modern style using blush and cream as my color scheme with gold and rose gold accents to match my gown…I knew I wanted exposed wooden tables with garland and candles of various sizes and asked my florist to make several extra garlands for decor to enhance the earthy feel around the reception space- I am so glad I did. We used the hurricanes and wood tree slices to decorate the entryway and around the sweetheart table to make the look cohesive throughout the space. The golden accents and flatware on the sweetheart table with the over-sized chair and garland was my personal favorite.

The tables were set up in a family style layout that allowed guests to have conversations without leaving anyone out. I was so happy with the way everything came together it was exactly what I envisioned. It was the perfect blend of classic glam romance with a modern boho twist

Since we eloped, the wedding reception was slightly less traditional and we really just wanted it to be a fun time for family and friends to join together which I think we accomplished. We were overwhelmed by the turnout especially with having to change the reception location and plans last minute. It was a beautiful setting to celebrate our love and the beginning of our life together. I am so fortunate to have married the man of my dreams and celebrate our beginning so beautifully together, it was my own personal fairytale.

Tiffany and Corey, thank you for sharing your wedding reception with us and congratulations!

Justine and Jason wanted more than a wedding. They wanted a whole wedding weekend with their friends and family (who traveled from around the country to join them on their special day) where they could explore together, relax together, and spend quality time together. Sedona provided the perfect atmosphere for a fun extended wedding weekend and the couple got exactly what they wanted.

The Colors: The wedding color palette, which got it’s inspiration from the fresh colors of spring, were ivory, blush, and gold. The bride has a canary yellow engagement ring so the bridesmaids’ accessories were in shades of golden yellow.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding blog_Real Arizona Wedding_Sedona wedding_outdoor wedding_pink_blush_gold_Events by Showstoppers_Charity Maurer Photography

The Flowers: The flowers we used were peonies, ranunculus, roses, tulips, hydrangea and assorted bulb flowers.  The color palette was peach, blush, champagne, ivory, and some grey with a touch of metallic gold. The bride wanted slightly deeper colors to pop against the dresses but still wanted to keep a romantic spring feel. (Events by Showstoppers)

The Ceremony: The most intimate and important part of the wedding to us was the ceremony; with this in mind I (the bride) asked my older brother if he would do us the honor of marrying us. With his knowledge of Jason and I, the sharing of sentimental memories, sage advice, and sarcastic humor, an endless amount of memorable laughs were created.

The Reception: Shimmering golden tablecloths were accented with beautiful low floral centerpieces that featured artfully designed vases. A wash of blush lighting made the room glow warmly.

Bring on the Sugar:  Varied layers of gold and blush on the wedding cake continued the romantic wedding theme. The bride has a sweet tooth so it was important that not only was the cake pretty but it tasted good as well. Each of the four layers had a different flavored cake and filling- Justine’s favorite was the champagne layer that had white chocolate raspberry filling.
