Julie and Nicholas’ wedding day was “definitely the best day of our lives! We were surrounded by our closest friends and family. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful, fun, and memorable day!”

Inspired by the color of the bridesmaid dresses, this elegant wedding  incorporated Fall desert tones; we really love the guys bow ties and the stylish floral arrangements throughout, not to mention a bride that radiates happiness!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_real wedding_orange_outdoor ceremony_Lasting Images Photography_Butterfly Petals (2)

Amanda Johnson, owner of Butterfly Petals, tells us about the bouquets and boutonnieres: Julie envisioned classic white bouquets with just a pop of orange to compliment her colors and bridesmaid dresses. Her very full bridal bouquet included hydrangea, dahlias, calla lilies and ranunculus. The bridesmaids carried slightly simplified versions with pops of orange ranunculus. The guys wore clean flame calla lily boutonnieres.

Butterfly Petals:{The bride} wanted a fall winery theme to compliment the season and the rich colors at Royal Palms. Julie pulled in some of the wine details through her place cards and table numbers and we brought those details in with rich colors and textural floral like deep purple artichokes. Julie’s tastes were very classic but she wasn’t opposed to bringing in cool textural elements, especially in the centerpieces. We included succulents as well as calla lilies, and rich dahlias.

Classic with a twist- love it! The short but fun program says it all…

Warm golds, reds and ivories made the reception an inviting place to spend an evening of fun and celebration

About the flowers and decor: The flowers were absolutely gorgeous and everything I had ever imagined. From the bridal bouquets to the aisle design to the center pieces, Butterfly Petals took our vision and made it a gorgeous reality… Imoni Events organized everything perfectly!

I love the menu napkin wraps- they’re in an easy to read font and ensure that every guest will see what they are about to dine on!

Favorite Moment: When dinner was over and the band started playing, everyone got up and danced. Every body was smiling and having a great time!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_real wedding_orange_outdoor ceremony_Lasting Images Photography_Butterfly Petals (13)

Sweetness: The best part of the wedding was that all of our guests seemed to have a great time. Our guests were able to float between the dance floor to the patios to enjoy cigars, the open-air photo booth, and of course, the bar!

We will never forget that day and how amazing it was. It was so special because we enjoyed every single moment of being with each other and our favorite people!

Congratulations Julie and Nicholas and thank you for sharing your Real Arizona Wedding with us!

Jeannette and Shane are avid travelers so their “Rustic Travel” theme was a no-brainer. They chose a palette of orange, green and white for the Northern Arizona ranch wedding and the result is simply perfect- no detail was overlooked and each design piece was executed perfectly. But what do we REALLY love about this couple? Their passion. Their sense of adventure. And their genuine thoughtfulness towards each other.

Many of the wedding day details were centered around the couple’s love of travel- Jeannette’s gift to Shane was a set of cufflinks with maps depicting where Shane proposed to Jeannette and where they got married (plus there was a surprise gift to him- see the first look to find out what it is!); their invitations were designed with a telegraph in mind and even their escort cards, signature cocktails, and centerpieces were travel themed!

3 Words: Vintage, romantic, personal

Jeannette’s gown was so perfect for her. She explains how it became “the one”: I wanted something that was elegant with a touch of vintage…I loved the open back and all the bead work.

Her bouquet of orange dahlias, orange asiatic lilies, orange ranunculus, white lisianthus, scabiosa pods, orange calla lily, viburnum berries, camellia leaves and green parrot tulips was just gorgeous!

Favorite Memory:our first look and having that intimate time together before the ceremony

Best Gift EVER: The car is a 1968 Camaro and is very cool! It also has a very sentimental meaning. Shane’s father purchased the car for him when he was 15. It was a shell at the time and it was a project that they worked on together- it took them 4 years to restore it. Sadly, Shane’s father passed away shortly after. Shane shipped the car from NY to AZ and it has been sitting in our garage since it needed a new engine. I thought it would be amazing to use it for our wedding as a way to honor the memory of his dad and surprising him with a new engine for his car was the best grooms gift ever!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding Magazine_Tangled Lilac Photography_Northern Arizona_Real Wedding_orange_green_travel theme (5)

Jeannette and Shane do not shy away from a challenge- almost all of the details were DIY! Jeannette tells us: Together we planned every aspect of our wedding and made all the decor, I have to say my groom rocked at crafts! Haha. However, executing it all would not have been possible without our amazing wedding planner Care Schmidt from Sterling Weddings and Events…

Their bridal party consisted of 6 little ones all under the age of 6- too cute, right?

More from the bride about their ambitious DIY projects: We made world globes that we used as centerpieces, instead of having numbers for the tables we named each table with a city we have traveled to. We made the dessert wood name cards, menu cards, remembrance shutter for our passed loved ones, flower vases, banners, ring box. And we used old suitcases from our grandparents as card holders and decor.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding Magazine_Tangled Lilac Photography_Northern Arizona_Real Wedding_orange_green_travel theme (14)

Flower arrangements included lilies, succulents, orange dahlias, loose seasonal blooms with berries, and ranunculus; centerpieces incorporated globes and mason jars customized with photos of the couple’s adventures and family.

Guests enjoyed a feast of  feta and caramelized onion tarts and chili-lime chicken kabobs with cilantro cream during cocktail hour and a buffet of peppercorn roast beef, grilled marinated chicken, three cheese tortellini with roasted bell pepper sauce, au gratin potatoes and sugar snap peas for dinner.Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding Magazine_Tangled Lilac Photography_Northern Arizona_Real Wedding_orange_green_travel theme (15)

With so many children attending, the couple chose to incorporate kid-friendly touches such as a fun candy bar and chalkboards with chalk for doodling; the photobooth and silly props ensured all guests would enjoy hamming it up!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding Magazine_Tangled Lilac Photography_Northern Arizona_Real Wedding_orange_green_travel theme (16)

There was a TON of sugar at the wedding reception- the miniature dessert table included New York style cheesecake cones dipped in chocolate, caramel apple streusel tart, canoli, chocolate chip cookie sandwiches, and red velvet cream cheese cupcakes; Jeannette designed the cupcake wrappers herself!

Mini milk jars and doughnuts were given out at the end of the night- such a yummy way to end the evening!

Wedding Inspiration: Southwest Color
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, from the consultants, real weddings, reception ideas, rehearsal dinner spots, Tips and Advice, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

There’s no law saying that when you have your wedding in Phoenix, or really anywhere in Arizona, you have to make the Southwest a dominant theme. We know this of course, and really love when we see Southerners bring in their signature charm or when New Yorkers use their modern big-city sensibilities, but with the desert offering so much in the way of beauty and style, why not embrace the natural surround just a little bit on your wedding day?

We’re not talking Kokopelli and terra cotta (but if you want to use those, go for it!) today, we’re exploring a more sophisticated and colorful take on the Southwest. If you think Arizona is just brown, brown, and more brown, you’ll be delighted by the wide range of colors that evoke a Southwest vibe!

Many couples draw their inspiration from the amazing sunsets that Arizona is known for- pink streaks across the sky are not uncommon at sunrise or sunset and are always breathtaking. This design uses prickly pear, roses, and succulents highlighted by the glimmer of gold- we ADORE it! Erica Velasco_Butterfly Petals_Phoenix Nace

Take your cue from nature and serve light pink margaritas or use bold pinks, gold, and coral in your floral designs.

The state gemstone of Arizona is turquoise so using the actual stone or even just the color at your wedding is a great way to bring in the Southwest

Of course orange, which is a pretty trendy color this year for weddings, is a quintessential Southwest color choice- it goes beautifully with green, red, blue, or really, any color in between!

Without a doubt, the Southwest is vibrant and visually interesting- if you want to mix textures, colors, and patterns when planning your wedding,  you can do it and remain true to the Southwest you love. Have fun with all your options!

Real Arizona Wedding: Jessica and Jeff’s Colorful Desert Wedding
categories: cakes and sweets, destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, from the consultants, real weddings, reception ideas, Scottsdale Weddings, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

Color trend predictions for 2014 and early 2015 weddings lean towards pastels and while the soft tones are a beautiful option, we really love the inherent cheerfulness of bright colors. You may have spotted Jessica and Jeff’s colorful desert wedding in our recent issue but there were so many more details that we want to share with you so if you want bright and colorful, take your cue from this luxurious affair in the  Arizona desert.

The turquoise bridesmaid dresses pop against the neutral tones of the desert- so gorgeous!

Wedding Trend: Radiant Orchid, Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, floral inspiration, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration

You’ll be seeing a lot of purple this year and probably well into 2015. Why? It’s pretty simple. Pantone, the authority on color, says: Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.

pantone-color-of-the-year-radiant-orchid-main-650x357

What do we say? We. LOVE. it. We asked the valley’s top wedding experts what they would pair this romantic and charming hue with and here’s what they said:

Victoria Canada of Victoria Canada Weddings and Events: Gold- Shimmery, Bright, Sparkly Gold. It adds glimmer and glam!

(Photo courtesy of:  Hagerty Photography, Stylist: Sterling Weddings & Events, Stationery: The Event Essentials, Floral: Table Tops Etc., Rentals: Classic Party Rentals)

Monica McQueen of Tres Chic Weddings and Events: Deep aubergine, velvet, in fact. Using tonal varieties adds such depth and richness and this color begs to be featured richly.

Another one is a mossy green because green and a warm purple are fantastic together and exude an exotic look.

Jim Bullock of Events by Show Stoppers: Radiant Orchid paired with deep golden mustard with metallic gold. My inspiration comes from a famous scene in Ben Hur…there’s a costume of gleaming gold armor, with a billowing lush orchid cape and a golden Roman helmet crested with rich mustard-gold ostrich feathers exploding from the top.

Amina Michele of Some Like it Classic Weddings & Event Design: ORANGE! I’m really loving this color with a deep orange – I think this combo is really vibrant, enigmatic and the pairing reminds me of Arizona sunsets!!

We always say we love a real wedding that has a good story and this one may trump all the others for one simple reason: Ryan submitted his (and Megan’s) wedding to us as a surprise to Megan. So…SURPRISE Megan! Lovebirds, enjoy your Real Wedding feature…

Ryan and Megan’s wedding is full of Arizona inspired details and lots of true love; their inspiration came from Arizona’s spectacular sunsets so the vibrant color palette of purple, orange and copper feels very natural (and Ryan admits he’s a lifelong Suns fan so the colors were easily approved by him!).

Ryan explains: We took great pride in centering our wedding’s aesthetic around iconic Arizonan themes and items. We thought it would be a perfect idea to both remind my native family of what they love about Arizona and to showcase the area to Megan’s family and guests, who were mostly from out of town. Our reception location at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort was nestled among the Phoenix Mountains and featured hacienda-style architecture. We really strove to create an event that was inviting, bright and indicative of what this city and state has meant to us and what makes it great.

3 Words to Describe Your Wedding Day: Personal, Joyful, Timeless

Favorite Moment (if you don’t already, you’re going to adore Ryan after reading this!): My favorite memory from the day was taking photos on the balcony at the Pointe, overlooking the city. It was the first time that Megan and I were stationary for a moment to catch our breath and take it in. But with her standing in front of me and the scenery around, I lost my breath again anyways.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_purple_Halloween Wedding_The Pointe_Pinkerton Photography ( (8) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_purple_Halloween Wedding_The Pointe_Pinkerton Photography ( (9)

The couple’s reception decor was well-thought out and purposeful; their signature drink, the “Centennial” not only matched the decor (which is one of our favorite ways to add pops of color to a reception) but it was also a nod to the state’s 100th birthday; the bar signage was posted on an Arizona-shaped cheese board; {they} found authentic Mexican tiles to use as table numbers; succulents and grafted cacti were used frequently adding familiarity and color to the tablescapes.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_purple_Halloween Wedding_The Pointe_Pinkerton Photography ( (10) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_purple_Halloween Wedding_The Pointe_Pinkerton Photography ( (11)

Megan’s mom found the spiders and surprised Megan with them on the tables- they happen to be the right colors for the wedding but also, Megan graduated from the University of Richmond, whose mascot is the spiders!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix wedding magazine_purple_Pinkerton Photography_a

Custom cake stands are a cool (and often overlooked) way to showcase your wedding style and Ryan and Megan used their stand as another opportunity to tie in the color scheme as well as their love of Arizona: We filled our acrylic cake box with oranges (an homage to one of the state’s 5 C’s), large succulents and dahlias.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite cake stands, cakes, and cake toppers ever!
