Lavender wasn’t supposed to be a big color for weddings this year but this pretty purple hue is making a statement regardless! We think we know why lavender is a popular choice for couples planning their weddings: it’s purple (which is always in style for weddings) without being “too purple” and it conveys a delicate prettiness that’s appropriate for any wedding. From backyard get-togethers to grand ballrooms, lavender is lovely!

Lavender Wedding Inspiration: A color palette that includes lavender and other bright shades makes for some pretty gorgeous wedding attire. This bridal party’s attire is anything but boring thanks to the varied shades of purple!

Lavender Wedding Inspiration: Escort/place cards get a touch of lavender- they hint at what’s to come. And pretty much any stationery piece can include the light purple hue- table numbers, menus, signature cocktail signs, etc.

Anna and Ryan’s New England Southwest Wedding

New England Southwest Wedding_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Ben and Kelly Photography (1)

Anna and Ryan’s New England Southwest Wedding is a sight to behold…this couple, who lives in Rhode Island, chose Arizona for their wedding and was blessed with the most AMAZING sunset! Luckily, Elite Circle photographers Ben & Kelly Photography captured all the magic.

New England Southwest Wedding_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Ben and Kelly Photography (2) New England Southwest Wedding_Phoenix Bride and Groom_Ben and Kelly Photography (4)

Bride Anna explains their vision for their wedding: …since so many people were traveling, many who had never visited Arizona, we wanted to introduce them to some of Arizona’s best. We also wanted the event to have a personal and energetic feel to it.

People call us Fish and Ships because of our last names. #FishandShipsForever was our hashtag and my cousin who designed the invitation suite and signage incorporated that with our desert/rustic theme

New England Southwest Wedding Details: We kept our colors pretty simple and within the desert theme. The only colors in the wedding party attire were a dusty lavender and navy blue with the rest being shades of grey.

Favorite Moment: Two moments stick out for us. We didn’t do a first look, so when I was walking down the aisle, seeing him for the first time that day, seeing his excitement knowing it was all finally in motion and happening, while being surrounded by the beautiful desert and our beaming family and friends, it was the most loving feeling in the world. The second moment: being on the PACKED dance floor, looking around seeing everyone smiling, singing, dancing and genuinely enjoying themselves made us so happy and we felt truly celebrated by a fabulous, fun-loving group.

Two friends played the guitar at our ceremony. We were raised with different religious backgrounds, but each set of parents read a prayer or their choosing during our ceremony. Jane, a family member who also married my parents 34 years ago, knew us both so well and officiated the ceremony making it especially personal and special.

What was most important to you two as you planned your wedding? We wanted to maintain focus on what the day was really about: the celebration of our love and commitment. (emphasis on celebration–we’re all about having fun!) We were intentional about not stressing about the things we considered “over the top”. We set our priorities and tried to not let the bells and whistles get in the way.

New England Southwest Wedding Details: Part of our table-scape included our favors. We planted succulents in candle votives for everyone to take a home a little piece of the desert. We danced to the Hora and went up in the chairs to kick off the dance party. Guest enjoyed signature drinks, Cape Codder’s and Cucumber Margaritas, a taste of both New England and the Southwest. The entire night the dance floor was packed. Guests are still raving about the music and the delicious dinner!

Desert Botanical Garden has a luminaria event each winter and the colorful “decorations” made for the most stunning background!

Wedding Venues in Downtown Phoenix: Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel
categories: destination weddings and honeymoons, fabulous reception sites, Meet Our Friends, reception ideas, rehearsal dinner spots

When it comes to wedding venues, Arizona has it all: wedding venue styles range from desert landscape to golf courses to sprawling resorts to urban downtown venues and Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel should top your “favorite wedding venues in downtown Phoenix” list.

Located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel offers breathtaking rooftop views, a chic urban setting, a truly unique atmosphere and a staff who desires to make your wedding day all you hoped it would be.

We chatted with Senior Catering Sales Executive Amie Dignan about why couples will want to consider Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel for their big day:

What makes Renaissance Phoenix Downtown perfect for weddings? Skyline, at The Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel offers a very unique urban wedding venue that is unmatched by any other space in the valley. Skyline is a 10,000 square foot roof top terrace with soaring views of the downtown Phoenix landscape.  Surrounded by historic and contemporary buildings it is perfect for a one of a kind wedding experience.

Can couples bring in their own vendors or do you have a specific list you work with? We offer a list of preferred vendors which are all great partners to the Renaissance; however, couples are welcome to use any vendor of choice. The Renaissance will supply all food and beverage.

Sunset ceremonies on Skyline are breathtaking as the sunlight reflects off the surrounding buildings.

We also have several Urban Gardens on Skyline creating a unique space in downtown. Our downtown location is ideal for weddings with out-of-town guests; we are walking distance or a light rail stop away from great restaurants and entertainment options for guests wanting to make the wedding into a weekend get-away.

What are the things about the property that make it a fabulous place to get married? Our staff and service is like no other, we receive constant accolades from our guests as we make them feel at home. The Renaissance is in the top 10% of Phoenix Hotels on Trip Advisor and is listed as number 7 for service within the Renaissance Brand. In fact, the hotel was just named the Renaissance Hotel of the Year for 2015!

What do you see couples doing with the venue as far as decor and design that you are really loving right now? Bistro lights and a color wash of up lighting has really enhanced the space.  Skyline boasts several lounge sets and couples are incorporating the furniture into the reception and enhancing them with fun pillows and table-scaping.

Lindsey and Matt’s Downtown Phoenix Wedding
categories: cakes and sweets, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (1)

Lindsey and Matt are both from Arizona so even though they currently reside in Texas, they returned to the Arizona desert they love so much for their downtown Phoenix wedding. The lovely photos definitely reflect this couple’s fun attitude and their love for our desert city.

Lindsey recalls: We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are and our styles. We both love minimalist design, industrial architecture, vintage-inspired style, and the desert. Also, with the wedding being soon after New Years Eve, we wanted to have a fun atmosphere for our guests, as well as pull from the colors of that holiday of metallics, black, and white.

Lindsey is a designer so she designed the wooden cactus magnet Save-the-Dates (so cool, right?) and worked with a laser-cutting company in Dallas. For the invites, I wanted to integrate artwork that my grandpa had created in the 1940s of downtown Phoenix into the design. I worked with a letterpress printer in Dallas to create the invites, and my mom lovingly lined the envelopes and did calligraphy.

One of our favorite parts of the wedding was seeing our adorable nieces and nephews as ring bearers and flower girls, whose vintage-inspired outfits were meticulously selected by the MOB and MOG.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (10)

Looking back, what was your favorite moment of the day?

As I was waiting to walk out to the ceremony with my Dad, I peeked through the curtain and was overwhelmed at the sight of our family and friends that had joined us that day. Matt and I couldn’t believe the amount of love that we felt throughout the day, and were so grateful to be able to celebrate with everyone.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (11) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (12) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (13)

Downtown Phoenix Wedding Details: I wanted to have a minimalist, desert look to the flowers. Megan Carollo of Flower Bar put together a mix of succulents, driftwood, and white floral that was just stunning. My favorite element was the escort card table that combined moss, candles, driftwood, and candles- it was the centerpiece of cocktail hour.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (15)

Downtown Phoenix Wedding Details: Regarding the cake, we wanted something that had a geometric, Art Deco-era feel. Pixy Cakes created a black, gold, silver and white cake that was not only beautiful but also delicious. (I would also like to point out that the groom kept his promise to his mom to not smash the cake in the bride’s face!).

The menu also uniquely reflected Matt and Lindsey’s experiences: Matt and I wanted a menu that reflected places we have lived and food we love. We both grew up in Arizona and therefore love Mexican food. We met while in college in New Orleans and wanted to have southern food inspired by NOLA. And we live in Texas now, and also wanted some good ol’ fashioned American comfort food.

When something at the wedding goes wrong, and something always does, you want to have a team of professional vendors to back you up. Lindsey tells us how the sparkler exit almost didn’t happen: Somehow during the hustle and bustle of the day, half of the sparklers, the lighters, and the bucket to extinguish them in did not make it to the wedding venue. After some initial panic from my Mom and me, Alex from BTS made a call and magically came up with replacement sparkler materials, which was amazing of her. The sparkler exit happened as planned! Although, if I could do it over again, I would have slowed down… because Matt and I basically sprinted through it and only got a few pictures. But it was still a fun moment, regardless.

Congratulations Lindsey and Matt and thank you for sharing your downtown Phoenix wedding with us!
