Kristina and Chad’s Elegant Outdoor Wedding with a View

With their work schedules being busy at almost exactly opposite times of the year (Kristina is a teacher and Chad is a MLB pitcher), this lovely couple hired wedding planner Cara Morrison of A Day to Cherish Weddings to plan their elegant outdoor wedding with a view. The view was courtesy of the extraordinary Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa- Kristina and Chad knew as soon as they saw the gorgeous ceremony space, hip cocktail hour patio, and intimate ballroom that this was the place to exchange vows.

The couple used their vision of a wedding with rustic elegance to guide their wedding design choices; blush and ivory floral pieces added an element of romance while wooden accent pieces provided an outdoorsy feel.

Elegant Outdoor Wedding with a View: For the outdoor ceremony, Kristina and Chad had their florist contruct a simple wooden arch and decorate it with flowing swags of white and blush flowers paired with greenery. Wooden stumps flanked either side of the arch and also served as bases for rustic candle lanterns that lined the rose petals dusted aisle.

Elegant Outdoor Wedding with a View: Chad and I spent considerable time writing our vows to each other. It was worth every second and something I will always remember!

Elegant Outdoor Wedding with a View: Kristina and Chad took full advantage of Sanctuary’s breathtaking desert landscape!

Elegant Outdoor Wedding with a View: The reception was in the ballroom which boasts floor to ceiling windows- the effect is a stunning view of the mountains, Paradise Valley, and the city lights as the sun sets.

Our florist matched the blush rose tones of the linens and bridesmaid’s dresses with vases of staggered sizes, each with their own flower variety including ivory hydrangea, blush quicksand roses, Sahara roses and ivory majolica sweetheart roses. Gold pillar candleholders and votives accented the floral arrangements. The candles tied in perfectly with the gold-rimmed chargers and printed accents of the menus and favors on each plate.

Guests enjoyed a meal of Achiote Marinated Sea Bass , Grilled Corn and Chorizo Risotto, with Smoked Paprika and Lobster Butter Or Bacon-Wrapped Beef Tenderloin, Pancetta and Exotic Mushroom, Truffled Potato Cake with Cabernet Reduction Sauce- yum!

The sweetheart table was a pretty little setting for the couple to dine together for the first time as husband and wife and have the best view of their friends and family throughout the evening; the wooden decor elements were expertly incorporated into the otherwise elegantly decorated dining room.

Kristina recalls: Chad grew up in Texas and I am from Michigan. I had never heard of the southern tradition of a “groom’s cake” until Chad’s mother clued me into it. In the south, the groom gets his own wedding cake! For Chad I chose a chocolate Texas Tech cake decorated with strawberries.

Real Arizona Wedding | A Rustic Chic Wedding in Downtown Phoenix
categories: bridal fashions, cakes and sweets, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration

John and Emera’s rustic chic wedding in downtown Phoenix was pure romance- we’re pretty sure John wanted to kiss Emera alllll day long (so sweet) and the couple created a day that really reflected them as a couple and the things that are special about their relationship.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_rustic chic wedding_Arizona Wedding_Monique Hessler Photography (2) Phoenix Bride and Groom_rustic chic wedding_Arizona Wedding_Monique Hessler Photography (3) Phoenix Bride and Groom_rustic chic wedding_Arizona Wedding_Monique Hessler Photography (4)

What was most important to you two as you planned your wedding?
It was SO important for our wedding to be a reflection of our relationship- which is why we had so many DIY projects, family pictures, cootie catchers, etc. Additionally, John’s grandfather passed away a week before our wedding so we wanted to make sure we celebrated his life throughout our wedding. We displayed his Grandparents’ cake cutting pictures on our cake table and let the bartenders know that we reserved a special bottle of scotch in case our guests wanted to toast to his life.

Rustic Chic Wedding Details: Elements most remembered by our guests are DIY’d – our glittered chargers, floating dream catchers as our ceremony backdrop, and homemade cootie catchers for our programs (folded by my very patient, now husband).

Favorite moment of the day:  There were so many but if I had to choose just one, it would be cocktail hour. While our guests indulged in bites and drinks, my new husband and I stole a few minutes to ourselves in the Ceremony room. We got to talk and eat privately before our guests were ushered in. They say your wedding flies by so we are fortunate to be able spend time alone before the celebration!

Rustic Chic Wedding Details: John and Emera blended gold touches with feather details as well as soft pastel florals with bright red pops of color. The gorgeous cakes were displayed on a vintage desk topped with pictures from wedding cake moments in John’s family as well as vintage crystal cake plates and lush floral designs. The gold foil LOVE balloons add a touch of chic!

Rustic Chic Wedding Details: Vintage door knobs were the base of the table number holders- metal prongs added to the base held the table numbers in place; Emera and John DIY’d the gold chargers and we really love how they add sparkle to the slightly rustic feasting style tables.

Rustic Chic Wedding Details: A colorful photobooth backdrop and vintage sweetheart table make this reception all kinds of sweet!

2 fun things for guests to do during the evening: cornhole and jenga!
Phoenix Bride and Groom_rustic chic wedding_Arizona Wedding_Monique Hessler Photography (18)
Rustic Chic Wedding Details: The Midnight Snack bags are homemade oatmeal cookies John’s mom and sister made. The recipe is an old family recipe from John’s Nana. They grew up with this delicious snack and in line with all of the other personalized details of our wedding, we thought it would be great to share this treat with our guests.

We recently featured Whitney and Cory’s wedding in our Summer Fall 2013 issue but this is one of those weddings where there is so much more to share than we had space for in print! Whitney, an event designer at Some Like it Classic Wedding & Event Design, has an eye for style and there was no shortage of inspiration; we couldn’t keep the lovely details to ourselves so today’s Real Arizona Wedding is heavy on the pretty.

Whitney envisioned a wedding that was fun (the impromptu after-party fulfilled that!) and celebratory (most of their guests came from out of town) that was expertly designed with a modern take on a pink and blue color palette.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Wedding (1) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin

Favorite Things: Whitney: His sense of humor and his laugh, I swear he gets funnier every day. Cory: How fun she is and her personality, we have so much fun together.

Favorite Memory: Our First Look was extremely special… it helped calm our nerves and allowed us to talk to each other. I still remember Cory telling me how beautiful I looked.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin (2)

The Bridal Party: …not only did they look gorgeous (one of my fav photos!) but both our bridesmaids and groomsmen ranged from friends we’ve known since we were toddlers all the way past college and most of them came from all over the country to be there for us. It was a really amazing group and Cory & I had both moved growing up so we feel really lucky to have such sweet, beautiful friends who are still a big part of our lives despite the distance.

3 Words for the Wedding: Friends, Family, & Fun!

Whitney incorporated several design styles into the details- there’s a touch of rustic with burlap and wooden signs alongside glamorous (if not royal) graphics and stationery; the pink and blue accents played well against the neutral tones of the venue.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin (7) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin (9)

Whitney designed the loveliest sweetheart table- the “Just Married” plate is adorable!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Stephanie Fay Photography_Scottsdale Weddin (11)

We love how florist Table Tops, Etc. varied the heights, design and containers for the arrangements throughout the reception courtyard; varying textures is an art and both Whitney and Table Tops, Etc. do it well!

If you could change one thing: As a perfectionist it’s pretty funny to me that I wouldn’t change a thing. However, both Cory and I wish it lasted longer, I wish you could add a few extra hours into your wedding day because we had such a fun time with our friends and family. As much as we really tried to take everything in and really be in the moment it just really flew by. The only thing I can think of is I wish we had a popcorn bar (My husband nixed that idea the week before our wedding when I thought of it!)!

Congratulations Whitney and Cory and THANK YOU for sharing your day with us!

Real Arizona Wedding: Gwen and Greg’s Flagstaff Ranch Wedding
categories: bridal fashions, floral inspiration, real weddings, Wedding Inspiration

Gwen and Greg’s beautiful Flagstaff wedding at Gwen’s family’s ranch is best described as a little bit country charm, a little bit pure romance. Take one look and you’ll know why we had to share it with you!

3 words: vintage, personal, us

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography

Favorite memory: Greg’s favorite is watching me attempt to get my dress bustled, it was quite a situation, there is a great photo of a friend completely under my gown and me waiting patiently with a beer. Mine is spending time dancing to our silly song choices and laughing with Greg on the dance floor with our family and friends. It is also a great memory that I started to say Greg’s lines during our ceremony because I got so flustered and was so excited. It made for some great photos of us laughing up in front of everyone.

Gwen wore 2 dresses and I love her explanation why: I wore a short one in hopes of “tricking” Greg and keeping him from seeing me as I started my walk own the aisle. I also thought it might make the pictures a bit easier to accomplish before the ceremony. I switched back into it late into the reception. The short one was by Melissa Sweet and is called Billie, I plan to wear that one again some day for a fabulous party! My ceremony and reception dress was by Vera Wang, called Diana.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (2) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (3)

We walked down the aisle to a fiddler playing our favorite song by Old Crow Medicine Show (Wagon Wheel, also our first dance song).

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (4) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (5) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (6) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (7)

I love the quiet solitude of these images- Gwen and Greg are alone on their wedding day in the most romantic way possible

0412_LE Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (8)

The wedding day decor can be described as “vintage with a purpose”: My sister created all of the table markers as a tribute to the horses we have loved at the Miller Bros. DK Ranch (my family’s ranch for generations). The names on the tables are the names of the horses we have known. We seated my grandfather at the table named for his horse growing up, Black Eye. Greg and I sleep under the framed names from our wedding table (Lady and Trouble, very appropriately). My sister also created a truly amazing guest book from an old copy of a book about Princess Grace called Once Upon a Time, she cut out pages and replaced them with pages to sign and old family photos of our families. My mom also put in a lot of hard work, she collected over 100 vintage table settings for the guests of mismatched china and vintage silver…

The plan for our wedding was to make it as personal and meaningful as possible…We did not want to make any decisions “just because” or base our plans on what we thought was the norm. We wanted an outdoor wedding, but wanted to steer clear of too country a vibe, although boots were encouraged!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (9)

Favorite things:

My favorite thing about Greg is how sweet he is. He always puts me first and worries about how I feel, he is sweet and romantic in an understated way that just comes from his nature.

His favorite thing about me is that I am his best friend and that everything is always better when were together.” It is the greatest thing ever to be able to be married to your best friend.”

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_ranch wedding_Flagstaff_Hollye Schumacher Photography (10)

The couple chose a family style meal of pork, fettucini alfredo and homemade breads that were all served on passed platters, like a family dinner; not only is the clear-top tent gorgeous for the views during the day, it also has such a cool nighttime effect too.

Real Arizona Wedding: Danielle and Craig
categories: cakes and sweets, fabulous reception sites, floral inspiration, real weddings, Wedding Inspiration

Danielle and Craig, who met in California but headed to Arizona for their wedding weekend, planned a classically romantic desert wedding at Superstition Mountain Golf Resort. Soft champagne and warm neutrals were paired with subtle pink and navy to make the day a beautiful celebration of love.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Southwest Wedding_rustic_John Schnack Photography (1)

I couldn’t help but be intrigued by these images of Craig; Danielle tells us: Craig had wanted the new iPad, but he wanted to wait on purchasing one with all of the wedding expenses. I knew that this would be a great gift but needed to find a way to romanticize it. I waited until the day of the wedding to write a special note to him using one of the apps. My words were along the lines of letting him know he’s my best friend and how much I adore our love story and couldn’t wait to begin a new chapter as husband and wife.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Southwest Wedding_rustic_John Schnack Photography (2)

Favorite Moment: The first look allowed Craig and I an opportunity to be alone and to share our thoughts and words of excitement. It was such a special moment that just seemed to stop time as everything around us afterward happened so quickly, and before we knew it- it was all over.

Danielle’s dad made this arch for the ceremony- so sweet!

The property is so versatile- I  love how this image shows barely a trace of the desert but the next one shows the grandeur of the surrounding landscape; Danielle’s family stayed on-site at the Ranch House where they were able to spend time together the whole weekend; the couple even had their rehearsal dinner at the Ranch House the night before.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Southwest Wedding_rustic_John Schnack Photography (8) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Southwest Wedding_rustic_John Schnack Photography (9) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Southwest Wedding_rustic_John Schnack Photography (10)

The decor was a blend of romantic country and desert chic; the lush boxed flower arrangements softened the room and added subtle hits of color; the BBQ dinner menu included tri-tip, ribs, chicken, corn, beans, coleslaw, & green chile cornbread (yum).

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Southwest Wedding_rustic_John Schnack Photography (11)

Favorite Thing: How well we work together. Our communication has always been right on par which makes for a very easy relationship.

Slightly obsessed with this all white cake- the texture and design are just so gorgeous!

Real Arizona Wedding: Heather and Paul
categories: fabulous reception sites, favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

Heather and Paul’s outdoor Tuscan wedding caught our eye for a few reasons: The warm yellows, reds, oranges, greens, browns, and off-white tones were inspired by both the bride and groom’s Italian heritage, the rustic sunflowers remind us of a sunny summer day, and it just seems like everyone had fun. We like pretty and fun.

3 words to describe their day: Romantic, Elegant (yet relaxed), Picturesque

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (1) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (2)

Paul’s cufflinks are too cute!

Heather’s father and brother wanted to see her before the ceremony so she planned a first look for them prior to her first look with Paul…what a beautiful moment

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (7)

Favorite Thing: …Paul is the opposite of me, he is very relaxed and go with the flow kind of guy and he is truly my best friend. Almost 5 years together and I still get excited to see him everyday and I get so happy when I hear his voice or when someone says his name. He is my perfect match in every way!

Grooms, take note: Heather says one of her favorite memories from the day was when they walked down the aisle and Paul called her Mrs. Casartelli for the first time. It “took {her} breathe away”!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (12)

The rustic outdoor feasting tables were set with Tuscan hued floral designs, simple but elegant place settings, and olive oil favors; dinner was an Italian feast made complete with a carving station and Chicken Marsala (yum!).  Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (13) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (14) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (15) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (16) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (17) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (18) Phoenix Bride and Groom_Real Arizona Wedding_Brushfire Photography_Heather and Paul (19)

The Honeymoon: The day after the wedding we flew to St. Lucia and stayed at Sandals Grande Resort. We chose that particular place because we both wanted a place with white sandy beaches and somewhere that none of our family or friends have ever been before.

Advice from the couple: …just relax and enjoy. Not everything will run smoothly in the beginning and in the end it won’t even matter because at the end of the day the only thing that is important is that you get to marry the love of your life.

Congratulations Paul and Heather and thank you for sharing your day with us!
