Rachel and David’s spring wedding in the desert was one gorgeous affair! The couple, whose guests were mostly from out of town, planned a wedding with the desert in mind including a pretty color palette of copper and rose gold; succulents, paired with large pink peonies and peach roses, were everywhere—as it should be when planning a wedding in Arizona! Enjoy their perfect day at El Chorro, in the heart of Paradise Valley:

Spring Wedding in the Desert | Thoughtful Details: Rachel and David’s wedding had so many sweet and thoughtful touches. From David surprising Rachel with a London blue Topaz ring (the couple intends for it to become a family heirloom), to the locket that first belonged to David’s great-great grandfather that was presented to David by his brother/best man during a toast, to Rachel using her great-grandmother’s handbag, the couple focused on family and tradition in the most beautiful ways.

Spring Wedding in the Desert | Favorite Moment: Seeing each other for the first time was our favorite memory as a couple (we did our first look prior to the ceremony). Walking down the aisle with my father was also a very special moment and the most emotional for me.

Spring Wedding in the Desert | The Ceremony: The ceremony took place in El Chorro’s Herb Garden—a sweet and intimate place to exchange vows. Rachel and David planned a “desert chic garden party” wedding so the atmosphere was a perfect fit; rose petals lined the aisle, greenery was draped across the last row of chairs, saguaro cactus skeletons framed the altar, and an artful design of roses, succulents, and cacti finished off the look.

Rachel recalls: I love cacti and succulents and wanted both incorporated into soft, romantic floral arrangements along with my favorite flowers: peonies, ranunculus, and David Austin roses. The desert sunset was the inspiration for our wedding colors, and blush became the focal color along with rose gold and copper accents.

Spring Wedding in the Desert | Cocktail Hour: Guests enjoyed prickly pear margaritas and contemporary music during cocktail hour then headed to the South Lawn for a family style Southern-inspired dinner.

spring wedding in the desert _Phoenix Bride and Groom_El Chorro_Pinkerton Photography

Spring Wedding in the Desert |  The Reception: The reception was at El Chorro’s South Lawn—the venue provides a beautiful space for intimate weddings with the most spectacular views of Mummy Mountain. We love Rachel’s description of the table: shimmery blush linens, antique pink glassware, copper and rose gold accents (provided by the chairs), chargers, and flatware, and the beautiful greenery with soft flowers and candles down the center all took my breath away. The antique furniture located at the outdoor fireplaces was so elegant and inviting to our guests to sit together and socialize throughout the evening.

Spring Wedding in the Desert | The Sugar: Rachel and David’s adoration for the desert extended to their choice of cake and sweets as well! Cactus themed sugar cookies and mini-cupcakes flanked the almond strawberry and pink velvet half-dressed wedding cake that also bore a prickly pear cactus pad.

Spring Wedding in the Desert | Vendor Love: A big reason I chose El Chorro was because of Lindsey Rendon, their event sales manager. She is just lovely and so accommodating. I had a great experience touring the venue with her and loved all the outdoor space. El Chorro has beautiful landscaping and desert terrain, which is exactly what we wanted. A Day to Cherish is one of El Chorro’s preferred vendors, and I read great reviews online. After speaking with Stephanie over the telephone, I knew she was the right person for the job. She is just so sweet, easy going, and fun to work with. She and Lindsey were both a godsend.

Guests enjoyed dancing until the wee hours in the Classroom Bar that is an extension of the South Lawn area at the venue; florist Butterfly Petals softened the western decor and adorned the taxidermy with flower crowns (so clever!).

Succulent Rentals for Weddings in Phoenix | Creative Succulents
categories: favor and gift ideas, floral inspiration, for your ceremony, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration, what's hot in rentals

We know you’ve seen succulents in wedding decor here in Arizona—whether these interesting desert plants show up in the bride’s bouquet, at the ceremony, or in table top designs, succulents are exactly what weddings in Arizona need! Considering this fact (ok, it’s an opinion but we want it to be a fact soooo bad!), we want you to know about the place to get the very best succulent rentals for weddings in Phoenix. That’s right, we said succulent RENTALS!

Meet Creative Succulents, the sister company to Elite Circle design and decor company Creative Occasions, otherwise known as your new best wedding friend!

Succulent Rentals for Weddings in Phoenix _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Creative Succulents

Just so we’re clear, Creative Succulents creates custom succulent arrangements for events or home decor that can be rented or purchased. It’s a fairly new concept that goes in our “genius” category! We asked Corinne Carr of Creative Occasions about her newest venture:

What inspired you to include succulent designs in your collection of rental decor pieces? I have been creating faux succulent arrangements for years to personalize the decor in my home. I have always loved the elegant and clean look of a succulent arrangement; however, when shopping for them I discovered the quality and price were not cohesive. The pieces were either created with cheap looking products or the arrangements were very sparse so I started creating my own. Family and friends would come over to my house and would always ask where I purchased my arrangements. When they found out I was creating them, many requested custom pieces of their own!

We like to think of Creative Succulents as the best succulent rentals for weddings in Phoenix for a few reasons—quality and service of course— but also creativity. They will create a design in or on just about anything!

Succulent Rentals for Weddings in Phoenix _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Creative Succulents

How do you see couples using your succulent arrangements at their weddings? There are so many ways to incorporate faux succulents into a wedding or special event! We use high end succulents, so they look authentic up close. They work perfectly in a bouquet or centerpiece. They can be added to a ceremony arch, arbor or chuppah. Another great place is the beginning or the end of an aisle. Incorporating live flowers is always an option too. This allows you to bring in your color pops, textures and that fresh flower smell!

Succulent Rentals for Weddings in Phoenix _Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona Wedding_Creative Succulents

Another thing we really appreciate about Creative Succulents is that they’re constantly designing new decor pieces and make a variety of types of arrangements; they create large free-standing pieces, small table top pieces, wall decor designs, etc. making them the most flexible succulent rentals for weddings in Phoenix.

Can clients customize the designs? Of course! Customization is what we are all about! We love creating unique, one of a kind arrangements. In fact we even have clients who drop off the vases or unique containers they have found and voilà! We work our magic and turn it into an unforgettable masterpiece.

You’ll appreciate that Creative Succulents offers a wide range of containers as well so depending on your wedding style (or rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, etc.), Creative Succulents can be your one and only place for succulent rentals for weddings in Phoenix.

Which design is your favorite? I love all of them! I won’t send anything out that I am not proud to say I designed. I don’t have one specific favorite because they are all so different and unique. Every time I am asked to create a new piece it seems to become my favorite. I was recently asked by a local planner to create an arrangement in a copper vase. I located the perfect size container that will be on a 72-inch table and created the “Scarlet”. It turned out amazing. To pull together the look for their event they are even getting the linens from our sister company, Creative Occasions. I am very proud of the way it turned out and excited to make 30 for their 300 person event!

What are some decor trends you’re seeing for 2017 that you’re particularly excited about? As for trends, the concrete pots and also the copper or metallic pots are a huge hit. Although we love designing arrangements in unique vases, we love that industrial and modern look. Another “succute” trend are small succulents for wedding favors! Your guests can use them as decor for their own office or home. Succulents and green plants are making a huge come back and we are loving it!

Lindsey and Matt’s Downtown Phoenix Wedding
categories: cakes and sweets, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (1)

Lindsey and Matt are both from Arizona so even though they currently reside in Texas, they returned to the Arizona desert they love so much for their downtown Phoenix wedding. The lovely photos definitely reflect this couple’s fun attitude and their love for our desert city.

Lindsey recalls: We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are and our styles. We both love minimalist design, industrial architecture, vintage-inspired style, and the desert. Also, with the wedding being soon after New Years Eve, we wanted to have a fun atmosphere for our guests, as well as pull from the colors of that holiday of metallics, black, and white.

Lindsey is a designer so she designed the wooden cactus magnet Save-the-Dates (so cool, right?) and worked with a laser-cutting company in Dallas. For the invites, I wanted to integrate artwork that my grandpa had created in the 1940s of downtown Phoenix into the design. I worked with a letterpress printer in Dallas to create the invites, and my mom lovingly lined the envelopes and did calligraphy.

One of our favorite parts of the wedding was seeing our adorable nieces and nephews as ring bearers and flower girls, whose vintage-inspired outfits were meticulously selected by the MOB and MOG.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (10)

Looking back, what was your favorite moment of the day?

As I was waiting to walk out to the ceremony with my Dad, I peeked through the curtain and was overwhelmed at the sight of our family and friends that had joined us that day. Matt and I couldn’t believe the amount of love that we felt throughout the day, and were so grateful to be able to celebrate with everyone.

Downtown Phoenix Wedding Details: I wanted to have a minimalist, desert look to the flowers. Megan Carollo of Flower Bar put together a mix of succulents, driftwood, and white floral that was just stunning. My favorite element was the escort card table that combined moss, candles, driftwood, and candles- it was the centerpiece of cocktail hour.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Downtown Phoenix Wedding_Mike Olbinski Photography (15)

Downtown Phoenix Wedding Details: Regarding the cake, we wanted something that had a geometric, Art Deco-era feel. Pixy Cakes created a black, gold, silver and white cake that was not only beautiful but also delicious. (I would also like to point out that the groom kept his promise to his mom to not smash the cake in the bride’s face!).

The menu also uniquely reflected Matt and Lindsey’s experiences: Matt and I wanted a menu that reflected places we have lived and food we love. We both grew up in Arizona and therefore love Mexican food. We met while in college in New Orleans and wanted to have southern food inspired by NOLA. And we live in Texas now, and also wanted some good ol’ fashioned American comfort food.

When something at the wedding goes wrong, and something always does, you want to have a team of professional vendors to back you up. Lindsey tells us how the sparkler exit almost didn’t happen: Somehow during the hustle and bustle of the day, half of the sparklers, the lighters, and the bucket to extinguish them in did not make it to the wedding venue. After some initial panic from my Mom and me, Alex from BTS made a call and magically came up with replacement sparkler materials, which was amazing of her. The sparkler exit happened as planned! Although, if I could do it over again, I would have slowed down… because Matt and I basically sprinted through it and only got a few pictures. But it was still a fun moment, regardless.

Arizona Wedding Planning | Wedding Expo Inspiration
categories: floral inspiration, reception ideas, Trends, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Resources

As a couple planning your wedding in Arizona, you have so many options when it comes to wedding expos, open houses, wedding “bootcamps” and bridal shows- the plethora of options makes Arizona wedding planning easier (or more fun) than ever!

We recently attended the Arizona Bridal Show and Wedding Expo (formerly known as the Bridal Fashion Debut) and our booth was pretty gorgeous so we thought we would share some of the wedding inspiration with you!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding planning_Arizona Bridal Show_Fully Alive Photography

The focal point was the sweetheart table draped in gorgeous linens from Classic Party Rentals but we also had other tables and seating from Glamour and Woods for added ambiance; creative floral designs by Butterfly Petals and styling by Apropros Creations made it a stand out booth. Brides, grooms and friends and family of those brides and grooms all commented on it and we couldn’t have been prouder!

Our Senior Sales Manager Kristen Butler and Publisher Fran Samuel were there all day and they had a blast talking to couples, handing out the newest issue of our magazine, and chatting it up with the other vendors at the show.

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Arizona wedding planning_Arizona Bridal Show_Fully Alive Photography

Of course we had plenty of copies of our magazine to give out the day of the show but you can pick up your own copy at any of these locations if you missed it.

Time and again, brides and grooms tell us at these wedding expos and bridal shows that their Arizona wedding planning started with us and we can’t even tell you how much that means to us. It’s why we do what we do!

When you have two simple but important goals for your wedding day like Jessica and Jason did, you know it’s going to be a good day. The couple wanted to A. get married and B. make sure everyone had fun. Done and done!

Proving that Fall weddings don’t have to include traditional fall colors, the couple’s blue and metallic color palette was paired with bright pops of color- we really like how the colors add a fun cheery vibe to the day.

We’re pretty much in love with Jessica’s bouquet- Brady’s Floral Gallery used succulents, eryngium and pin cushion protea along with peonies and roses to make it a stand out

Favorite moment: …our ceremony was my favorite moment of the day. Even though it was half an hour long, it felt like it only lasted five minutes, and it feels like a singular moment. It was so personalized and reflected our values so well; I couldn’t imagine a better way to start our marriage. It is so special to be able to think back on that time and know we started our marriage surrounded by people we love, while hearing and saying words that meant so much. I think the best way I can describe this, is by giving you the vows we repeated to one another. They exemplify the respect, love, friendship, and everything else we put foremost in our relationship.

“You are my lover and my teacher,
You are my model and my accomplice,
You are my best friend.
I will love you, hold you and honor you,
I will respect you, encourage you and cherish you,
In health and sickness,
Through sorrow and success,
For all the days of my life.”

Making it theirs: We had so many fun touches throughout the day too. We wanted to make sure the day reflected our personalities, and that everyone had a great time. Beer burros, corn hole, and giant connect four helped us get the message across that we were there to have fun! Having some games available made sure that even if people didn’t want to dance they still had something to do and had fun. We still have people tell us how much fun they had at our wedding, so I think we were successful!

Sparkly linens, copper chargers, bright blue details like the table numbers and menus, and vibrant floral pieces made the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass’s large ballroom inviting and celebratory

Any surprises or things you would change? There is honestly not a single thing I would change. The day couldn’t have gone any better, and unless there is something I’m not aware of, everything went exactly as it should have gone. It probably would have been just as perfect, but by the time the rehearsal started the day before I decided that it was time to relax and let everything unfold. I had spent months preparing and organizing, so I figured at that point there was nothing else I could do and things would go according to plan or not. Thankfully, everything went as planned and any small kinks that happened just weren’t a big deal. We kept our focus on the reasons we were getting married, and making sure everyone celebrating with us could take part in our joy, which led to the perfect day from start to finish.

Wedding Inspiration: When The South Meets The Southwest
categories: cakes and sweets, destination weddings and honeymoons, floral inspiration, real weddings, reception ideas, Wedding Inspiration

We live in the desert. There’s no getting around that but why would you want to? Arizona has some of the most striking landscapes in the world- our landmark mountains that stand tall among rugged desert, intriguing plants and character-filled cacti make for wedding loveliness…it’s no wonder that so many couples seek out Arizona for destination weddings!

One couple that was inspired by our desert surround is Ginny and Johnathan, who hail from the South. They wanted a destination wedding where their guests could enjoy desert life at it’s best- outdoor living surrounded by Arizona’s natural beauty. The color palette of peach, blush, pink and natural hues really pairs perfectly with the setting and Ginny’s bright pink nails? Too cute!

We chatted with the couple’s wedding coordinator Trista Guzman, owner of BTS Event Management, to get some insight for how their South Meets Southwest wedding came to be. Trista and her team were involved in every bit of making the bride’s vision for her wedding come to fruition.

What was the couple’s vision and/or inspiration for their wedding day decor?
The couple is from the south so they wanted to have a South meets Southwest inspiration carried throughout. In the bride’s bouquet she had succulents to represent the south and sweet-grass roses to represent the south. The cuisine was a south/southwest fusion with things like catfish tacos. They wanted decor items to be re-used in their landscape at their new home they just purchased in Windgate Ranch (which was why the wedding was held there). This is why the cactus were used in the centerpieces and in the ceremony arches. These items were planted in the couple’s backyard after the wedding.

What do you love most about this desert wedding in particular? We love the cactus centerpieces…

The Flower Bar created a true desert-inspired atmosphere with various cactus and succulent floral pieces along with beautiful bright roses to bring some pops of color to the outdoor reception area.

This sweets table is so pretty! It features a lovely white wedding cake as well as macarons, another white cake, some delicate desserts and all the fixin’s for s’mores; the sweets were all highlighted by flowers from Flower Bar. We can certainly appreciate the well-thought out design of the entire wedding day.

What are couples planning their weddings in Arizona asking for/looking for in their wedding day design that you’re most excited about?
When planning an Arizona wedding we love incorporating the colors of the Arizona sunset and natural landscape that we sometimes take for granted since we see it everyday. All of our couples that are new to Arizona, or are from out of state, are always so impressed by the cactus, mountains and natural habitat. It is a great reminder of the beautiful state we live in.

Congratulations Ginny and Johnathan and thank you for sharing your wedding day with us. And a special thank you to BTS Event Management for sharing the design details for this lovely “South Meets Southwest” wedding!
