Omni Montelucia’s Dream Event was everything it promised to be—the exclusive wedding fashion event in Scottsdale was plentiful in style, champagne, time with Randy Fenoli, and exquisite wedding gowns. The evening began with a VIP event with Randy where attendees previewed his brand new line of wedding gowns and toasted to the evening with Veuve Clicquot champagne (yum!)

Randy Fenoli—Master of Ceremonies (and master of happiness, enthusiasm, and all things bridal fashion)—kicked off the fashion show in style as only he can. He shared his excitement for the dresses we were about to see and reminded us all that “it’s not just about the dress, it’s about how you WEAR the dress.” We adore him…

Wedding Advice: Mother of the Bride Dresses
categories: bridal fashions, Tips and Advice

Brides, we know that shopping for your wedding gown is pretty high on your wedding planning list- it’s that iconic event that can really push a bride over the edge from being excited about her wedding to being head over heels in love with her wedding- but once you choose your gown, you’ll help mom find her perfect dress, right? Even though she doesn’t want to take any of the spotlight from you, she has her own dreams about how she will look on the big day and finding the “one” is critical.

Elite Circle bridal shop Schaffer’s Bridal has a large selection of wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and mother of the bride dresses and since they have so much experience making all the ladies look extra beautiful on the wedding day, we asked them for their most popular MOB/MOG styles and some advice.

This dress by Alyce Paris is our #1 selling Mother of the Bride/Groom dress. It’s flattering to ANY mom who wears it and it comes in many color options…and the price is great! It also has just a small beaded trim along the neckline, with an asymmetrical skirt.

This cap sleeve, satin chiffon, full length dress with sheer neckline and beaded embroidered lace bodice is also by Alyce Paris. It offers just a little bit of glitz with some old Hollywood glamour.

This dress is actually a bridesmaid dress by Jim Hjelm.  Sometimes bridesmaids dresses are the best kept secrets for moms! The trick is to find a bridesmaid dress that doesn’t look too “bridesmaidsy”. This one has a cowl draped neckline with a natural waist; the fabric is a beautiful chiffon and is also available in many colors.

Tips for finding a fabulous Mother of the Bride/Mother of the Groom dress:

-Consult the couple. Make sure you have a clear idea of the formality, colors, and style of the wedding before you choose your dress. If the wedding is a Saturday brunch wedding, you definitely don’t want to wear a ballgown. Conversely, if the wedding is a full-on formal affair, wearing a dress with a whimsical floral pattern is probably not the look you want. Asking the bride and groom if there is anything they absolutely would not want you to wear is appropriate- it’s their day and this isn’t the time to make a statement.

-Plan ahead. You may need to order your dress and get alterations which can all take up to 6 months (sometimes longer). Make sure you have a fitting scheduled a few weeks before the wedding so that you know the dress fits perfectly and if it doesn’t, there’s still time for last minute adjustments.

-Color is key. When it comes to the color of your dress, you don’t want to match the bridesmaids but you also don’t want to stand out with a busy pattern or loud color. The best wedding pictures we see are those where the family members are not necessarily color coordinated perfectly but the general tone is the same- soft neutrals, shades of blue, etc.

-Be comfortable. You can definitely find a dress that’s a great match for the wedding that allows you to enjoy yourself and feel beautiful without being uncomfortable. If you don’t normally wear one-shoulder dresses, you may not want to debut that style at the wedding. If you’re self-conscious of your knees, choose a dress that hides them. You’ll enjoy the wedding day so much more if you feel good and wearing a dress that distracts you will not help you feel good.

Schaffer’s Bridal: The advantage of purchasing a mother of the wedding dress at a salon, such as Schaffer’s, is that our looks are very different than the department stores.  Most of our lines that we carry are NOT available in department stores, so you don’t have to worry about a guest showing up in the same dress (which happens occasionally!).

Wedding Gowns- The Best of the 2014 Fall Collections
categories: bridal fashions, Trends

Vera Wang’s ALL pink bridal collection (yes, she only presented wedding gowns in 4 shades of pink) has forever changed the wedding world. She has single- handedly given brides permission, free reign even, to wear color. Not surprising from the designer who debuted black wedding gowns a few collections ago. Notice that Vera includes design elements that were popular on all the runways this year: one-shoulder design, architectural details, bows, mermaid silhouettes, 3 dimensional flowers, draped skirts, stripes, etc. but the color is what will stay with you long after you read this post…

The genius in this all pink collection is that Vera Wang has made the case for ant bride who is nervous about the color vs. white issue. Gowns in full-color actually show the details better than white gowns do!

OK, it’s not like every other designer fell short on the runways, because they really didn’t, but we can’t get Vera Wang’s collection out of our heads…so for the rest of the designers that presented, here’s what stood out:

The 1920’s/Great Gatsby influence was noticeable in Jenny Packham and Naeem Khan’s 2014 Bridal Collections:

Pronovias (carried at Schaffer’s Bridal) is always gorgeous and the detailing in their 2014 collection doesn’t disappoint- the Spanish design house always creates with an air of sophistication and this year’s collection is no exception. We love the unique ruffles that add dimension and interest on the bottom 2 gowns:

Theia made their mark with peachy-blush tones, texture, and even some ombre:

Romona Keveza’s ballroom style gowns (carried at Destiny’s Bride) are beautiful in color! Blush, Wedgewood Blue, and sparkly Nude:

Ines di Santo (carried at Mariee Gallery) presented a line that was appealing to edgier brides- the textural and architectural details are so interesting:

Monique Lhuillier (carried at Destiny’s Bride), who comes in a close second for our favorite from the Fall runway, embraced a romantic vintage vibe in her “Secret Garden-inspired world”. She didn’t go all pink like Vera Wang but she did make a statement with texture, color, and shape.

We love the ruffled tulle skirts (the color on the first is described as “smoke with a touch of lavender”)- gorgeous!

For the bride who wants something less “done up”, these sheath goddess gowns are pretty special too!

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Fall 2014_bridal_runway_Monique Lhuillier (4)

You’ll notice with many of the Fall 2014 collections that the shoulders are getting a lot of attention, much like backs were last year; Monique Lhuillier’s embroidered dresses are exquisite:

Phoenix Bride and Groom_Phoenix Wedding Magazine_Fall 2014_bridal_runway_Monique Lhuillier (2)

Not to be outdone, short dresses were seen in many bridal collections but Monique Lhuiller’s are among our favorite:

There you have it, the best of the best for Fall 2014! We can’t wait to see these gowns on REAL brides next Fall… in the meantime, we’re dreaming in PINK!
